Monorail Purple Being Retired

I think they learned from Rock 'n' Roller Coaster that demonic guests will seek out areas where people passed away. They went to the extent of changing around the license plates on the vehicles so that guests didn't know which seat had the guest that passed away.

Whoa! Someone died on Rock 'n' Roller Coaster??

Given the current economic climate and the rehabs of the trains over the past 5 years, you really think that Disney is buying 12 new monorail trains?

Absolutely not. The trains were designed to operate for at least 20 years. I have a hard time believing that Bombardier announced they would be for 10 years.
The oldest train on the system is not even 20 years old yet. That may seem old, if we are talking about common vehicles but all transportation vehicles must last longer than 10 years, for obvious reasons. Heck, NYC got rid of some subway cars dating from the 70s just a few years ago.
As long as they are running well, they should not be replaced for another 5-8 years.

^Yep. True. And weird.

Its probably time for new trains anyhow, even if they are just slightly upgraded new build mark vi's eventually it just isn't cost effective after some point to keep replacing and fixing things on old trains, not to mention improvements in construction technologies and materials.

The First of the Mark VI Monorail came online in 1989..

As a fleet they have a few more years to reach twenty, but not many.. I would expect 'work' to begin on the new Mark VIII's within the next few years.. Remember, they aren't built overnight, and they have 12 new ones (if they 1x1 the current fleet) to build..

Having said that.... my sources say that if the train color is changed on the purple train it would now be 'Monorail Cobalt'....

Again, take it with a grain of salt... could come out as monorail polka-dot.. they could even have a 'stripeless' train and call it monorail white :)

Just call it Monorail WHITE! Done! Retire Purple! Honor Austin! Disneyland does not have purple anymore and so should WDW.

When the Big Thuder accident happened at Disneyland they retired
Loco #2 I dont remember if they did for WDW, but they did change BOTH WDW's and Disneylands Thuder trains.

I would like Monorail White, I always thought that'd be an interesting color (lack of color?)

Plus it would be distinctive without being TOO distinctive for Disney's liking.

Wishful thinking perhaps.

Actually, it's funny, I was reading this thread, thinking of a new color, and I was thinking Monorail White too! I mean, you could make it look pretty nice/distinctive - trim it in black (like Monorail Black's stripe is trimmed in Red).

No, wait, even better...trim it in Purple - best of both solutions!

Whatever color it ends up, I'll gladly ride it and think good thoughts of Austin. I'm sure they'll make the right decision.

Dumb.

If it's true.

And I am not sure of that.

If it's so "dumb" my friend, then why bother posting? Oh, and by the by, this is the "News and Rumors" section, hence nothing on here is true, and in fact everyone who has posted about this has identified this as a rumor. 74, I often respect your opinions, but this is a little, shall we say, over-negative, you are above this.

My understanding is that the number "2" is gone, but the train is still there and still named "I. M. Brave".

People are still going to know that it is Monorail Purple. If anything, getting rid of the color would only get more jerks asking which color was the one involved.

Who cares? People know a united flight crashed on 9/11 ... They still ride ...
