Mod vs Value input

OK, here's my dilema: spend more $ on a moderate and spend less days at the parks or save $ on the value and spend more time in the parks.

To be honest, I would rather spend more time at the parks. While the mods are nice (the money spent there could be used at the value resorts and more time!). but the question really: do you plan on using the mods amentities or do you spend more time in the parks?

My Gf and I have been going down for 5 years now and we have done both all stars pop and POrt Riverside. The room itself at riverside wasn't really any different than a value. The hotel might be alittle nicer and you can do a few extra things but that's it. It depends on how much you will be in your resort. We are in the parks open to close so we do value now.

I've stayed in each category of resorts at least once. If it's a question of staying at a moderate vs. more days in the parks, I'd opt for more days in the parks. The moderates are nice, but not that nice.

I'm not sure how that's even a serious question. Of course, you should go for the days. I mean, really... Then again, I go for the parks, not the resorts... I suppose some people actually do more than sleep and shower at their resort...

In my opinion, the value hotels' rooms are too small, the food courts are too loud and crowded, and the rooms are too lacking in basic amenities for me to feel good about staying there.

The moderate hotels are so much nicer in terms of the size and amenities in the rooms, the offerings around the resort (restaurants and bars), the bus transportation (usually) and even the swimming pools.

Another negative for value hotels to me is that probably because there are more kids at the value hotels, there is more noise outside the room at all hours of the night, at least compared to the other hotels I've stayed in at WDW.

Staying at a moderate does add cost to the vacation, but if I can afford it, I go for the moderate and have never regretted the extra expense.

Saying all of that, I doubt I'd stay fewer days in order to stay at the moderate, so if it comes down to suffering in a value or staying an extra couple of days, I'd go for the days.

My first reaction was to say go for more days. However, reading this post reminds me of all the reasons why we don't stay at values anymore (with the exception of loud kids). I don't know how many days difference we are talking about here, but unless it is a dramatic difference like 5 days - a week, I'd say pick the mod. I'm not bashing the values or anything, but I really hate them and would only stay there as a last resort (no pun intended :p).
This question would have been much easier to answer if it was between a moderate and a deluxe. Go for the deluxe every time!

Like you I had the exact reaction, more days. I then said to myself it would really depend on how may days. We have 2 kids and every bit of space helps. If budget allowed 2 fewer days for mod. I'd do it. We are good at planning our park days and take advantage of EMHs when we can so 2 days less to be more comfortable I'd do it

Although we always stay at a moderate (sorry...just didn't like our one experience at a value), for you I would choose more days at the parks and stay at the value.

I'd probably choose the extra days...and then regret it every extra day I was there, the moment I got back to the resort to rest. We do enjoy spending more time in our resort, and we go enough that we don't feel pressure to spend every waking moment at the parks.

To the OP, the fact that you ask the question makes me think you're of a similar mind - you want the extra days, but not sure the smaller rooms, more limited dining options and fewer amenities are worth the sacrifice. You know you better than we do, so you know the answer that's best for you.

How many people are in your party? If it were just 2, the value would have enough room--if you have a group of 4, though, values can get very tight. It's just an issue of preference. If you just use the resort as a bed, go to the value and spend more time in the parks. If you want to relax at the resort more and spend time at the pool, go with the mod. I've never had a problem with the values, but it was admittedly very tight when my whole family used to go.

How many extra days are you talking about? Personally we really like Pop(never noticed more noise there than say CBR), but with 2 adults 9 and 5yr old could not handle the small rooms more than 3 days.55 extra sq ft. never sounded so good.We find ourselves coming back to the room in afternoon for r & r and honestly it's hard to get kids to nap when you want to watch tv or just talk with the boss(wife).that's the main reason we bought into DVC and usually stay at Pop on Fri &Sat then check into a 1bdrm at AKLfor Sun- Thurs.

After staying at both POR and FQ, it is very hard for me to go back to the values at all. In your case, since it is up to more days than I'll say just save and stay at a value.

Its easy for me to not wanna stay at the values anymore because the last two trips I've stayed at Riverside and French Quarter, both for a week, for the price of a value because of a discount code. Even without the discount I'd still pay a little more to stay there over the values! Port Orleans is just so quiet...I was just at French Quarter last week and every single day/night, the place was just silent...no loud kids, and the foodcourt was NEVER crowded. I was able to peacefully take a walk around the resort and not a hear a sound...it was so nice!

I guess my answer would lie in which resort the decision is between. This past summer we stayed at a value and did not have the greatest experience so we said never a value again. However, we did have a geat experience when we stayed at Pop. So unless for me it were between Pop and a mod there wouldn't be a question.

I have stayed at POP for the past four years never trying any other resort. This past summer we had a short 2 day trip and decided to try POR. That place is so much better IMO than POP. We went with my dad so the curtain separating the "bedroom" from the bath was very useful. I really enjoyed having a refrigerator to keep drinks cold and the grounds were so nice...I loved crossing the bridge over the river. I also liked having covered bus stops....so I mean if money is really an issue than go for POP because it isn't really THAT bad...you're still at Disney after all...:animwink:

My rule of thumb is, if it's one or the other, always opt for the longer vacation. That's a no brainer for me.

The Mods are really nice and offer some beautiful landscaping, cool gift shops, and nicely decorated rooms. However, the convenience factor is won by the Values, by a large margin. They're easier to get around, have better bus service, and better organized food courts.
