Mod vs Value input

OK, here's my dilema: spend more $ on a moderate and spend less days at the parks or save $ on the value and spend more time in the parks.

More dining options at moderate? Yes. But will you be doing more eating in your hotel or in the parks/other resorts? More amenities, i.e. pool, spa, etc. Go moderate? it all depends on what you need out of a hotel. For me, all I need is a toilet, a shower head, and a bed. I'm pretty content with that. But if you want more comfort in your hotel you probably won't find it in a value.

My situation is similar to yours. I am travelling from N.y. (a long day of getting to the airport and flying) With 2 kids. Ive been to orlando for long weekends and they go by so fast its like a blur and I never really seem to settle in and enjoy myself as much as I would like. I use my room just enough to shower, sleep and maybe a little Late night T.v. Unless you cannot get any rest in the Values then by all means go for the longer trip. Youll slow down a little and take it all in as opposed to rushing around trying to see it all. That the case for me anyway.

A really good friend of mine came into a little money a few years back and decided to take the family to Wdw for a once in a lifetime Deluxe resort vacation. He has since told me that even though it was a great trip and everyone really enjoyed it They just did not use the Room and all the Extras enough to make it worth the money and would have been better off staying at a Mod or Value.

I am going to go for the Mods. Personally I love the idea of having a more immersive experience. I love the whole other time/other place feeling I get when I am at the Mods. I just dont get that when I stay at the Values. Unless the cost is so prohibitive, that the alternative is not going, I would say go for the Mods. If cost is the deciding factor, of course the Values are far nicer than a lot of places offsite, plus offer the on-property benefits of a Disney resort. Belle

Generally for a family with children, I'd say more days and pace yourself, but there are a couple of other things to consider... number of days and frequency of trips.

Number of Days:
If you are looking at the difference between 3 & 5 days, go for the extra days.
If you are looking at the difference between 5 & 7 days, consider the nicer resort.

Frequency of your Trips:
If you've never or rarely been, go for the extra days because you'll need more time to see everything.
If you're a regular and know your way around WDW (and know what you want to see), you might be more efficient at getting around so less time might not be as big a consideration.

I've stayed at Values and Mods, and the biggest difference to me is that the Mods are much quieter and are less crowded (less people crammed into the same amount of space). Interesting transportation options (like the boats to DTD at PO) and the nicer areas to take walks, dine and shop at the Mods is also worth considering if you plan on using the resort for more than just a place to sleep.

Personally I would only stay at the value if I was going for a short trip and not going to spend much time in the hotel at all. In fact my one time just going for 3 days I stayed at a value and it was fine.

Otherwise for me the Mod is the way to go. I like the themeing better, the set up of the hotels, the rooms, having a fridge, nice grounds to walk around, a pool with a slide and other fun areas.

We usually do take time to relax at our hotel, so the grounds and little added comfort are important.

To be honest, facing the OP's dilemma, I think I might opt for a near by hotel off-site <gasp>. That way I could stay as long as I wanted and still have some nicer ammenities.

I vowed my next trip would be to a moderate, FW to be exact. We love FW and stayed at POP recently, we do spend time in the room and around the resorts so we would rather stay in a place we can enjoy a day off from the parks and not have it be so hectic with people.
