Who here plays/played excess instruments in life.

Oh dear, "excess" is right! Though I can't claim 100% proficiency, I can play just about anything you put in my hands: Flute, saxophone, french horn, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello, guitar, recorder, and various pitched and unpitched percussion. The idea was more to gain enough knowledge of the instrument to be able to teach a child to play it, rather than master it yourself. Ah, the wonderful world of instrumental pedagogy classes. I think my favourite of the above was the cello and my least favourite was the trombone, which forced me to break down in tears on a playing test. Ironically, my boyfriend is a trombonist, so I just tell myself that if I ever do have to teach band, I'll just have him teach the kiddies how to play the trombone, LOL.

But as far as any real proficiency goes, I've played the clarinet since 4th grade, piano since 5th grade, and trained classically in voice throughout college, since that was my major.

That's awesome! You rock to play all those instruments. I'd like to but I stick to Piano, thats where I find I'm excelling. I need to learn guitar still though. I also get a lot of percussion easily to.

Well, I'm off to a coconut bowl game with one of our big competitors. Should be interesting.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I've marched all through high school and college (though my college band can't TOUCH my high school band).
There are no videos on YouTube from when I was in it, but I've been teching. Here's our show this year, called "The Heist." Yes, the audio is part of the show, which bugs the heck out of me, but whatever... also we had a phasing issue... but still got Sweepstakes. :)

And our show from last year called "Spellbound." Our ballad is "Paint it Black," which worked surprisingly well.

The year before, called "Wired."

Here's the year before, called "Carnival."

We alternate between going to Macy's and the Rose Bowl Parade every four years, so I got to play in a Disneyland parade!

I think one of the strangest songs we performed was "When Ducks Tango." Ah...homecoming... I think my mom still has that awful performance on tape somewhere. For some reason some people just couldn't get the marching right. I actually yelled at a sax player during practice one day because he kept running into me.

We had a visual called "Rotations" where we would form diamonds and switch places every 5 counts, while a color-guard member would spin a flag in the middle.

Yeah, the flag flew, I tripped over it, and went flying.:dazzle::brick: Not my best moment....at the Season OPENER. I was unharmed, but starteled, and somehow still found my way back into the formation.

Then later, I got yelled at by our wonderful director for messing up the show.:ROFLOL:

I was a hard-core band nerd. I'd started playing Alto Saxophone in 4th grade. By the time high school came around, I was in concert band, pep band, jazz band, symphonic band and marching band (though not necessarily all at the same time). For marching band, I was a squad leader for one year and field commander for two years.

In college, I did only marching band, and only for two years. After that, I got fed up with the director and quit.

Yeah. :( I sort of regret leaving band, but I really had to focus on my major and other activities that had better leadership. My college band director was...special.

One time, we went to play a few shows up in Canada. For those of you that don't know, Canadian and U.S. football field markings are very different. Since our entire show was choreographed based on everyone's distance from yard lines, side lines and hash marks, and all those distances are different on a Canadian field, one would think we'd practice with the Candadian football field markings. Well, we did...once we got to Canada. We stepped off the bus after driving non-stop overnight from Western Ohio to Guelph, Canada for what was billed by the director as a 45-minute "wake up and refresh your brains" practice. It blossomed into a 2.5 hour "oh #&%!, we need to re-set the entire show on a field with football, rugby and soccer markings in the middle of a severe wind storm" nightmare. Ah, memories. :)

Every year, at the end of band camp, we'd all get together and toss the director into a pond near the practice field.

Thankfully, I'm still able to channel my inner music nerd in the Candlelight Processional Choir. :xmas:

Exactly what I did too. Quit Band, got into AP Classes, joined Model UN, and DECA. :D I had a happy medium.

Hysterical story...I don't relish the thought of practicing in the rain....again.:brick:

At our practice today, we got to dunk all of our section leaders and band teacher in a dunk tank. Load of fun.
