why did the magic kingdom close due to capacity???? What's the occasion? Theres no holiday going on right now or schools havent gone on spring break right? B/c my spring break is in 2 weeks.

Easter is on Sunday, and yes, schools are on Spring Break

Crowds drop dramatically around Aug. 10-15th ... and have for years.

:lol::lol:

We were there that EXACT time, last year, and trust me, EPCOT was packed. JII had a 30 min wait. SSE an hour TLS, at least 50...It was madness. So I have no idea where you get that from.

August 10-15th is definitely the time when the summer crowds start to drop off. We usually go around then, because some schools are back in session (summer break is a huge reason why the parks are busy in the summer, so I doubt late June would be less busy than early August) but the parks are still open late (3 a.m. w/ EMH at MK on some nights) so it's the best combination of less crowds/later hours that we've found.

The wait times are still bad for some attractions, but it's a lot better than at the height of the summer.

I'm not going to read through the 9 pages of this thread, so if this has already been stated, please forgive and ignore me, but...

If people think that the 4/3 promotion is doing ANYTHING but making Disney a hefty profit, they are INSANE.

I don't care if they're filling rooms for heavily discounted rates. If you don't believe they're making that up with food/bev/souvenier/etc sales, you're nuts.

Now would be a good time to buy a little disney stock, I'm betting. Their quarterly report will show improvement. Especially with the major management and front line layoffs they had.

Only a few. Most schools start back on the 20's of Aug. Most let out the last week in June, hence why it's not AS busy. At least it was for me...

I've been going that time of year since 2005 and it's consistently been like this.

Right, forgot him. Sorry.

I've been told merch sales have not been helped as much as they thought...but my source there is kinda sketchy, so I don't know if it's 100% right.

Now if you had said last week of June, I would have believed you. Been to WDW in June most of all, and never more than a 30 min wait for most E-tics.

I get it from years of history and WDW's own policies ... from cutting hours in mid-August to putting its resorts into 'value' season from 'regular' season to the fact many schools (including almost all in FLA head back to school in Aug).

I can't speak to your experiences, but when cast and capacity get cut, waits are artificially inflated. Very much like how with FP a 20 minute wait for all can easily become a 50-60 minute wait for some.

June is always busier than August. That's why hours are longer. That's why the resort rates are more. That's why Disney even now puts surcharges on its buffets.

hey, you gotta read to avoid smarmy comments ripping you for lack of commitment ...

If people think that the 4/3 promotion is doing ANYTHING but making Disney a hefty profit, they are INSANE.

Well ... there's profit and then there's business reality ... and spin. If most people are staying for 40% off, Disney isn't going to be presenting that as anything but lost revenue.

But I agree with your basic point. With Disney's absurd price points to begin with they're not hurting nearly as bad as one might think if they're filling the resorts to healthy levels ... and, right now, they are.

I don't care if they're filling rooms for heavily discounted rates. If you don't believe they're making that up with food/bev/souvenier/etc sales, you're nuts.

Now, now. There may be plenty of 'nuts' in these parts, but it's still not nice. The proper phrasing would be 'Disney reality challenged.'

But you are wrong on merchandise ... they are down by a large amount. People are traveling, but they aren't bringing back as much Disney crap. Disney doesn't do 'sales' and 'discounts' and that's all they have been doing.

Now would be a good time to buy a little disney stock, I'm betting. Their quarterly report will show improvement. Especially with the major management and front line layoffs they had.

I'm waiting for it to drop a bit before I load up again.

And I don't know what FQ3'09 will look like ... but the second quarter (which ended April 1st) will NOT be pretty at all.

Odd play considering you have no confidence in management including Iger. Glad I'm finally getting through.

I'd be much more interested to know what wait times are ... and how close to maximum capacity attractions are being run at.

I'd also like to know how many registers are being used at QSRs. And if any special entertainment has been added to deal with the crowds.

~In other words, the important stuff.~

With it being that crowded I would think a few hours wait. Probably if you got in line for Space Mountain around 3pm today you would probably get to ride it sometime between 8pm & 9pm. I'm not sure of the exact wait times, but I know on New Years Eve at Epcot this past year there were Stand-By wait times around 3pm of 280 minutes for Soaring and close to that for Mission Space & Test Track. I would never stand in line for almost 5 hours for any ride.

Nope.
But Liberty Square likely looks kinda like this:

And Tomorrowland like this:

From my first hand report... liberty square looked easily way more crowded than this photo. The line for the haunted mansion was far beyond the river boat entrance when i was walking through there.

So, come high August, MK will be quiet? How do you figure?

August isn't that busy. The later it gets in August, the less busy it gets.

Summer is not nearly as busy as spring break time. July 5th tends to start value season at WDW deluxe resorts. Free dining is an incentive to get guests to visit during very slow times.

Wow, that has me worried. I am going to be there on Friday for my wife's birthday. We are planning to get there really late like 8 PM and stay until the insanely late 3 AM EMH closing. Would families really stay at the park that late? I cannot imagine swarms like this during late-night EMH.

Wow. I have a friend in the park right now who's been texting me throughout the day. He said he's never seen so many people in the park. I guess he wasn't kidding around. One person in his party is in a wheelchair, which turned out to be fortunate for them as he says he's been avoiding most of the lines today.

I was over at Epcot today to work on a project, I was in a parking lot I've never even seen before, Explore.

Some wait times:

Test Track: 180
Soarin: 140
Spaceship Earth: (45 minutes was on the sign (....minutes from this point one), so I'm guessing probably around 55 minutes)
Maelstrom: 70
Mission Space: 120
Nemo: 40
Imagination: 20

Ellen was down, but came back up and was 10 minutes. Imagination was winding outside the building, so no way that was 20. The Mexico ride had queue in the main entrance. Fish and chips line about 70 people deep. It was insane. I left within an hour, obviously I just needed video, but it was insane!
