Mad Tea Party closing for refurbishment

It's for sure getting a new roof. We have flyers posted backstage in Fantasyland that list the dates and blatantly say that it will be down because "the teacups are getting a new roof". Meanwhile, the ones for Pooh just say that Pooh and his friends will be out hunting for honey... Wish we had more details about that closure.

Of course, "new roof" doesn't necessarily mean "different roof"...

As for those suggesting they remove the roof altogether, the Tea Party originally opened without a roof. There's a reason they added it within a couple years of the park opening...

I can't think of any other teacup ride anywhere in the country other than Disneyland's that's not under a roof. You add a torrential downpour to a smooth, level metal surface, and you instantly have hydroplaning Guests... :lookaroun

Dumbo is OK being outside because you step out of the vehicle onto a textured concrete surface that can be sloped for proper drainage.

So- you don't want the extra thrill of the uncontrolled slide across the metal until you finally show just how gracefully you fall on your face? I can't imagine not wanting to do that!

This would be great. First, their Dumbo; now... their teacups. :drevil:

That's great! Hopefully "new roof" doesn't just mean "replacement roof".

CM leaks are the best!

I pray you are not serious!

So true isn't it? I wish people could just be happy that they are fornunate enough to afford to go on vacation with the economy being so bad. And it being at WDW! Yes its dissapointing especially if you have saved and saved for that trip..But Disney by all means does not do it on purpose, if its not done on your vaction its on someone else's..There have been many times when we go and rides are down for refurb or The Crane is around( kinda a joke now that the trip is not complete without seeing that thing)....Yes its disapointing but not enough to ruin our trip.....

28 more days.....Till my Disney Fix!!

The roof was always planned, but since the teacups were the last attraction to be installed (because of its ease), the teacup pad was used as a staging area for that portion of FL. The photo's in early promotional material are actually of Disneyland's since the MK teacups were the last to be installed. If my meager recollection is right, the roof went up right at the beginning of Spring '72 and might very well be considered the first WDW "refurb".

Thanks to everyone who showed me the current roof! I can see why you guys are hoping for a new one!

My memories of WDW are hazy as I haven't been there in 21 years plus my dad died while I was there so what I do remember might be jumbled :lookaroun

I do like the DLP roof, I think it fits more esthetically the Alice theme then the crrent roof. I've been to DLR more recently (maybe 4 years ago?) and what I remember most about their teacups (besides the fact that if you're tall you can't spin fast) is how bloody hot it is with no roof! So I wouldn't want WDW's to be like that at all.

First off, is it me or is Disneyland Paris the most beautiful park ever?

Second, I don't think having an attraction down should ruin anyone's vacation. Seriously, does one really plan vacations to Disney World around attraction refurbishments? Four parks, two water parks, to mini golfs, a shopping district, restaurants galore, tons of opened attractions, etc.

It used to be but up until about 2005 I've seen a steady decline in DLP in terms of attractions and the grounds starting to look a little shoddy. No expense was spared for this park when it opened but a sagging French economy on top of all the financial woes the resort suffered since its opening has really shown that its all catching up with them.

Disneyland Park in Paris is indeed the most beautifully designed of the Disney parks I've been in. By a long shot.

Disneyland Studios Paris, on the otherhand, is, charitably, themed as a place that purposely has no theming (i.e., a studio).

ABSOLUTELY. I spent 3 days with my jaw dragging the ground. Complain about the water color, maintenance, etc... It's still worlds above any other MK in the world as far as beauty, and I've been to all of them. Tokyo and HK included.
