Lasers back on in Dinosaur

I rode it Monday and it was a nice sight to see. I can't remember the last time I saw lasers working! The first laser is always on but the last labor turned off eventually, if I recall correctly.

Steve
then maybe it could still be a thing they are trying to fix!? Looking at it again it almost seems like the laser staying on isn't intentional! but more of something they will get right eventually!

In 2011, some of scenic rockwork in the moving boulders earthquake element on lift hill c of Big Thunder Mountain dislodged and injured 5 guests. After that incident, safety and legal have been much more stringent towards enforcing certain prohibitions, such as no moving elements or scenic that could come down placed above guests.
while this is a possibility that things could fall...It still doesn't make sense. I am sure there is a way to make sure things are secure. I mean then by this logic ALL rollercoasters should be taken down because there is the "potential" of something breaking and guests falling off the track! I mean after all those years of Disney rides is this the first report of something overhead falling on guests and injuring them!? Accidents do happen but it still seems odd!

Thats what I don't get. It must be a US park mandate only. Last July the swinging AA pirate was surprisingly swinging above the passing boats again in the DLP PotC.

I'm just catching up on my WDW News so forgive my lateness (and admitted non-reading of the previous 9 pages worth of posts) but, while I'm all for effects making a return, why were these shut off to begin with? I may have missed an answer to that one but I'm confused. Frankly I didn't remember them at all from when I first rode the attraction (may have been after they were shutdown). Not sure they provide much from the videos I just watched either.

Only a US thing does not make sense either. I was there early this month and the swinging possums in Thunder Mountain was swinging above my head as well. I think it has more to do the specific AA and elements rather than all moving elements above guests.

Did they restore the shaking rocks on Paris' Big Thunder?

If Disney's goal is to remove anything that would potentially fall on people's heads at US parks, they've got a lot to do still.

And yeah makes little sense for US parks either. The possums on Big Thunder were removed prior to last year's refurb but restored not long after it reopened. One wonders why they restored that at all if they are after taking down all overhanging show elements.

I don't think it's a conscious decision, as the US management regularly makes decisions on their own in conjunction with US P&R legal. The decisions are different from the decisions made by the management of DLP, since US law/safety regs can be very different from Europe, and this is likely one of those cases where after they heard about BTM Paris, they decided to be proactive on their own in their own way. It does seem to be somewhat arbitrary as to how it is enforced.

This laser effect is a totally new effect, different lasers than before. The old effect created a green laser "box" floating in mid-air that the rover then "crashed" through. These new lasers appear to be lower-wattage and projecting a cone outward from a single point.

I had a chance to ride this earlier today and I'm pretty sure these aren't "lasers" at all. It appeared they were some sort of projector displaying just a green light on a fog effect. Still an improvement though.

Honestly would not be surprised to see more of this kind of sprucing up as Avatar nears opening. We saw so much of it at Magic Kingdom before New Fantasyland opened. Fingers crossed!

It seems lately a LOT of refurbs have been announced.

Perhaps this is standard, as stuff goes down all the time for refurbs, but it seems over a short time span a lot of them have been popping up on the list.
It seems every other day here i read a thread about the most recently announced refurb.

This is good.
Refurbs are welcome news.

I'd give up avatar for just one animal exhibit. :)

Any animal in particular? Giant pandas could draw a crowd and sell LOTS of souvenirs but they're hard to come by and have tons of red tape attached. That's why there's only 4 zoos in America that have them. San Diego, Atlanta, Memphis and National Zoo in Wash. D.C.
