LaL removal!!!!

Hooray! I've never cared about the wand, but I hate LaL! It's the worst eyesore in any of the 4 WDW parks. Slow removal of everything associated with it makes me very happy.

hmmm... in a creative bit of theming, maybe the plaques can be moved to "Chester and Hester's" to centralize all the tackiness?

How about putting the Wand and Hat there, too? The brontosaurus would look good with that hat on his head. They could call it "The Tackiest Place on Earth."
As for the plaques with the pictures, why not embed them into bricks in the entranceway of Epcot? Then, the stones can be razed, planters can be returned, and people's faces can be stepped on. This could be particularly fun if you know where someone is you don't like.

my bet is a Disney Mobile Kiosk....watch..those will start popping up
so disney can make a few more bucks...

runner up, the dvc kiosk in the middle could move ..I mean cmon,,,,dvc advertisement as you enter the park., u would have no way of missing itr on your way into epcot...

Any word as to what's replacing the kiosk?

Ok, I agree that the kiosk sticks out like a sore thumb. I know that eventually the monoliths with the plaques on them will no longer be there, but I think it would kinda nice if the plaques were removed and placed elsewhere in the entrance area.

We got one done on our honeymoon (cuz it was part of our package) and I'd like to see it in person on our next trip, provided they'll still be around.

I think, as with so much else of modern Disney, it's in moderation. I think having SOME of the stones would be cool. There simply are too many of them. It narrowed the entry way because the perspective is now horizontal instead of linear. Visually, the plaza was compressed by them. I personally would love to see them turned (I know, a lot of money), so that you have two upward slants on either side of the main walkway (probably 4 or 5 on a side). You could put pictures on either side, and it would make a nice upward arc toward SSE that a new statue could complement. Just my own pipe dream.

If people are wondering what the entrance plaza looked like before the Leave a Travesty...I mean, Legacy "monuments" were installed, here is what it looked like. Nothing spectacular, but it made for some nice photos of Spaceship Earth (sans wand, of course), and it was leafy and green and pretty. Not the cold starkness that you have now. You can also see the plexiglass sculpture on top of the fountain through the trees.

(This image is from the WDW Pictoral Souvenir book I have from my very first visit as a kid in 1986).

Also note that many of the planters are designed with benches along the outside edge. (Look over by the people in the shade) I don't think there's much seating in the entrance plaza now. Perhaps on the center planter, but that's it. And there's no chance of there being *shaded* seating there anymore.

The good news keeps pouring in about the SSE rehab. Even if the pictures and the wand stay, taking away anything that is associated with either one of them is a plus in my book.

Good riddance. Restore Epcot's entrance to its former glory.

I fully agree!!

This makes me feel better about Seimens' slated improvments for SSE. This could be the start of something BIG!

At LAST: No "graveyard" and no "wand"! Bliss........if tis' to turn out this way in the end!

What a wonderful 25th Birthday present for EPCOT!!

:sohappy:

Not old, just vintage.
I have such mixed feelings about LaL. I have 3 photo tiles up there. My mom and I paid for the first one in 2000. The others are of me and an ex-girlfriend and me and my best friend. The second 2 we got for free.

When I go to Epcot I always find the one of me and my mom. She died a few years ago and I like seeing a picture of us in her favorite place on earth. The other 2 I couldn't care about.

I agree that they should probably condense them onto less stones and move them somewhere else, but I would be upset if they moved them out of Epcot. I wouldn't mind seeing them put onto a smaller stone wall in a garden somewhere. I am definetly ready to see them leave the entrance though.

To be honest I know it might be a little sad for some to see this go, but I gotta tell ya....It was ugly, eerie, I even got used to tuning the whole area out. I almost forgot the eyesore was even there. That old picture was great to see however!! I was almost lulled into forgetting the way it was..so nice and beautiful. Ahh EPCOT in the Glory days!:)

I'm happy to hear this kiosk and silly marketing scheme is going away! While the original EPCOT entrance was MUCH MUCH prettier, I don't mind the LAL stones that much.

What I realy HATE HATE HATE is that darn wand. Get rid of that tacky hunk of metal!

And the other 20 million people who don't read message boards and visit EPCOT love them...

and you know this how? have you spoken with even HALF the people that visit epcot center? how would you know what they like and dislike?

You would have to be a complete liar (or I suppose someone of extremly badtaste) to say that the current enterance way with the wand and the tombstones and the kiosks is superior to the original enterance way that was designed by the imagineers.

Look how clean and natural the area looks and how the monorail swoops over head with the tombstones there now I don't even notice the monorail track.

Please Disney clean up that area and make it look nice again!

I was just going through my digital photos to try and find a pic of the LaL graveyard... And I couldn't find one! It's really telling when, in the 4-5 years that I've owned digital cameras, I haven't taken a SINGLE photo of Spaceship Earth from the entrance plaza side. I found *one* photo that I took while walking in from the parking lot, but that doesn't show the stones.
