Taste

Its a matter of taste, I think these bricks fit in with the "New Epcot", so i like them, the wand im not to bothered about i like it, but wouldnt miss it.

As for them being an eyesore in my eyes the personalised brick on the path Outside MK always annoy me as I think they make the path look messy.

Its a matter of Taste, I think it makes Epcot look modern, maybe its my Euro-centric taste, who knows!!!

Seing as they use simular design elements in Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris.....

That part has not been used for lal for a very long time. Has nothing to do with it anymore.
You buy them on one of the side areas away from sse.

Well the sales station underneath spaceship earth used to be a giant mirror pillar (still there behind it) that used to give the look that Spaceship Earth was floating.

I am not talking about the mirrored pillar underneath Spaceship Earth, I am talking about where they actually sell them and take your picture, off to the side under the big sign that says LEAVE A LEGACY.

I am wondering if they used to do the locker rental there or something.

I honestly don't care what they do with the tombstones, but I would really like the pictures to remain in the park somewhere. My husband and I got one on our honeymoon as part of our package and I was really excited to bring my kids there as they get older and show them our picture. I'm sure Disney can come up with a better idea then the tombstones...I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Well I hope that if they get rid of them that they atleast put the pictures somewhere. Or else do all those people get their money back? Man, we're going on our honeymoon in September and I wanted to get this done!

I'm a little upset about this because my wife and I had one done as part of our Honeymoon in 2004. I haven't been back since and have never actually seen it. Hopefully it'll still be there in July when I head back so I can see it at least once.

You should note that they haven't filed a permit to move ANY of the pictures, just the kiosk that was pictured in front of the mirror pillar.

Disney cannot remove the pictures for a long, long time, or, in the least, they would have to refund everyone (if they even could remove them), which Disney will never do. You will be able to view your pictures until at least 2020.

...and the sales location on the west side of the plaza.

True, they haven't filed anything about removing the stones themselves, but stopping selling the tiles is a good sign. :)

I believe they have guaranteed the pictures will remain for 20 years. So even if they do stop selling them now, the only thing it's a "good sign" of is that the tombstones will be removed in 2027...nothing to get excited over.

Be displayed somewhere at the resort is the guarantee.

Nothing about them having to be in that space.

It was sold? Any idea to whom or whether it's on display anywhere?

Digging back into the dusty recesses of my memory, at the time it was made, it was considered relatively high tech, definitely in keeping with EPCOT Center's theming. I vaguely remember something about it being the largest single piece cast acrylic sculpture in the world (or something like that).

If I remember correctly the acrylic sculptures were sold to a car dealership in Arizona somewhere. I was told this from someone who worked for mousesurplus and sold them. I think they are still on display in Arizona.

Which side of the plaza? East used to be a flower bed (under the canopy) and stroller rental. West used to be the group tours base. I`m at least 6 years out of date on what`s there now.

I wish they would get rid of this whole thing. It's tacky looking to me. It's just huge blocks of granite with pictures of people I don't know on them. They should have just done bricks like outside of MK. It makes the entry way conjested and such a pain to navigate.

I actually agree with you - the area is hard to navigate and feels claustrophobic, especially at night. That is because there is no straight path to the exits when you come under SSE. What makes it worse is that you can't even see the exits with the stone monoliths in the way.

You are forced to navigate around the tombstones, and maybe that is why they annoy me so much.

With the wand and the tombstones the area reminds me of an aging actress who has been given one too many facelifts. In its younger days the entrance was beautiful in its elegant simplicity. Now the individual parts might look good, but there is no overall coherence.

The entrance has become the theme park equivalent of Jocelyn Wildenstein.

I remember when that sculpture sold on ebay though I dont remember for how much.... I always liked it. I would enjoy seeing a bronze sculpture of a child reaching upwards... I think a bronze sculpture would look great on the rocky fountain... they could call it Tomorrow's Child.

I had the exact same idea. Put a lucite star that lights up at night just otu of its hand. Have a nice dedication plaque underneath it that takes off from the song lyrics.
