Horizons 94 question?

I think that's the problem. As a stand alone ride it's okay. But if it had another ride, whether Horizons or another omnimover ride that enhanced the storyline of really being in space like what was proposed to begin with, people would have a different view of it. I don't think it would change any opinions for the people who hate it, but it would for the people who are more, "Meh" and "I miss Horizons" about it.

Oh, of course. I think you would kill off any angst about it.

You've said this before, and it's just simply not true. At all.

As someone who worked in the area for an amount of time, M:S is a popular attraction.

And I was there this past Christmas/New Years. M:S Orange had a 120 minute wait, and Green had a wait of 75.

Exactly!:sohappy:

Sure, that would have been great, but it didn't happen. No reason to bash a good ride.

:brick:

Good lord, if I was the engineers that designed that wonderful piece of machinery I'd feel like you just kicked me in the crotch. That thing is one of the most sophisticated ride vehicle/system on the face of the earth.

Calling it a "simulator that spins" is an insult.

Not Whiile I was there it never got over 40 or 45 minutes the entire week i was there.

Never mind, then.

I'm seriously interested in M:S getting a refurb now. It would be simple...just new vids and programming.

It needs one for not just that but a few other elements as well such as re-painting and general cleaning of the bays. The ride has never had a full scale refurb. The closest it got was in 2006 when the Green Profile was added... Honestly I'd like to see the pitch and roll aspect added back into Orange and maybe multiple endings?

I've heard through the grapevine though that Test Track is going to be getting a major refurb before Mission: Space. No one knows when though...

I am probably in the minority that I don't like the Johnny Depp figures in POC. Don't get me wrong, the figures are awesome looking, but up against the old figures, it doesn't work to me. Seeing a handful of 2006 new awesome animatronics against the ones from the early to mid 70's doesn't exactly work. It's still a great attraction, but I think I enjoyed it more when I rode it in the late 80's & early 90's. (Update more of the existing figures and I would probably change my mind here. I know giving even half of the existing animatronic figures updates would cost a fortune, but it would make the ride much better. I know this won't happen.)

While I disagree with you on the movie related additions, I agree and have said before that the remaining AAs should be replaced.

My issues with Mission Space are simply that it lacks (in my mind as many will disagree) the elements of a Disney attraction.

It's not a "pavilion" - it's a thrill ride. You don't get immersed into the story upon entering (the queue is vaguely a pre-show for the ride). There's nothing else to spend time doing while there. It's a mission to Mars where you never actually get to Mars (yes simulated, I understand).

There is no post-show. You're dumped into a room to play a mass computer game, sent through the gift shop and back into Florida heat.

I think the technology and the attraction itself is amazing and could be something great as part of a larger space pavilion.

I largely feel the same way about Test Track. Not a pavilion.

Just a thought, not worth debating as there's probably a 50-50 split on these discussions.

Agreed on all points. I also hate the bland hallway you have to walk forever through to get to the gift shop, and how the "interactive element" of the attraction has no consequences and is extremely minimal (press the blinking light!).

Green is an even bigger joke.

Now here's my question for Martin, was World of Motion ever considered for an extensive upgrade?

I too would like to see it become more interactive.

I think the stipulation for renewing the contract was to have it turned into EPCOT's desperately needed thrill ride.

I defer to Martin, too, though.

Motion... not that I Know of.

The Milford proving grounds were looked at when designing the pavilion back in `77-78. A fast ride element was considered for the 1978 version of the pavilion - complete with outside track (which if you`ve seen my videos you`ll already know :D )

So far as I know GM wanted a hit ride to go with its name and both they and WDI decided to go back and look at the proving grounds as a concept for the new attraction.

Was that with or without the Magic Skyway/Ford/Autotopia-esque curve outside the pavilion? I don't recall.

Interesting indeed.

Also Martin, I just watched your tribute to Horizons video and have found yet another reason to dislike Mission: Space. :D

I just watched that and the Mission: Space tribute. Excellent work I might add...

It would be impossible for the interactive element to actually matter, unfortunately.

I'm glad they did something interactive than nothing.

Yes, but what I think he was saying is there should be other things happen before getting to Mars if you don't press the buttons.

But the ride system doesn't allow that.

Right, that's the bad thing, they can't operate independently after the spinning, right?:brick:

I would hope, with future technology, that's possible....it would be great for it to be "Star Tours II"-esque, with different flight patterns, scenarios, maybe even destinations. :D

Correct.

Well, technically, that is possible. Just put different programs in different pods.

Of course there's the weenie side of M:S, so there could only be 2.

Correct, which is why I kinda wish they weren't there. But then it would defeat the point of the "training mission" story to not have some kind of rider involvement.

So M:S great tech, not the best story, or Epcot pavilion. No desire to go back.
