Horizons 94 question?

The same could easily be said about Horizons. There was no pavilion. It was a great ride, and then nothing.

If anything M:S is more of a pvailion with Mission:Space Race and the other kiosks.

I was actually about to bring that up...

Anyway, there is actually a good reason why the re-entry hallway is unthemed. If it was, people would stop and look at everything, disrupting traffic for people exiting. I'd say it should have some slight theming, but it can't have anything substantial for that reason. We have people stop all the time in the green queue to look at each plaque on the wall, disrupting traffic. Kinda annoying...

Also, I like the idea of making Green and Orange sides different. That would give Orange riders a reason to come back and try the Green side.

^ oh c'mon... the bland, industrial exit corridor looks like backstage at Walmart. It makes Soarin's line look heavily themed. Some mood lighting and matching decor would have gone a long way.

Not every thing in EC needs to be a pavilion for example UOE Horizons was fine as just a ride.

Right. But M:S is all of 5 minutes of actual ride and Horizons was what, 20-25?

I agree, the post show, though minimal is ok for what it is.

About 20, I think.

Communicore with the Energy Exchange was used as supplemental exhibit space for UoE, which had no room for such inside its own building. While nothing similar explicitly existed for Horizons, you could say that any future-based exhibit did, if indirectly.

Correct, which is why I kinda wish they weren't there. But then it would defeat the point of the "training mission" story to not have some kind of rider involvement.

So M:S great tech, not the best story, or Epcot pavilion. No desire to go back.

The whole training mission thing is one of my biggest gripes about the ride. They might as well have not mentioned it and the over-acting that occurs elsewhere in the ride would make more sense. Why not make it a real mission?

Right, that's the bad thing, they can't operate independently after the spinning, right?:brick:

I would hope, with future technology, that's possible....it would be great for it to be "Star Tours II"-esque, with different flight patterns, scenarios, maybe even destinations. :D

If they wanted to, they could introduce segments where each cab could be independently controlled, where the spinning would not be necessary. Asteroid field, gliding sequence, could all have the tilt directly controlled by the rider with no spinning necessary.

Based on user input, you could have several branching storylines which all have lapses in spinning at the same intervals.

This is what I hate about M:S is that back before in the golden times of Horizons, my whole family could all ride it and enjoy it. Now we all just stand there, look at the "pavilion", and decided if they a) even wanna ride it, b) wanna go green side , or c) red side. The ride itself I don't find bad its just the cramp little space you are put in. Oh well, I guess the same could be said for WOM and TT but I still feel TT to be more family friendly. Again all my option. :)

If they made it a real mission, they still couldn't theme the pod rooms, and you'd just end up back in epcot, which of course would lead to threads/posts like this:

"Mission:Space's story makes no sense! You just end up back in Epcot not Mars. Horizons was so much better."

"Why aren't the pod rooms themed!? You're supposed to be in a real spaceship! Horizons was better."

"I liked the old story of M:S better, but Horizons was better than both."

You could say the same about any themed attraction. Why am I in Florida when I just got off Soarin? How do those sliding doors keep the ocean water from flooding out of the seas?

As for the pod rooms - "What is all this machinery above my hanglider?"

And yes, no matter what they ultimately put there Horizons will always be better. But that is not a reason not to try and make what we've got better.

Exactly. Like they want to do with Star Tours. Maybe it'll take.

Easy. You get into the Pods, at the LOADING bay. You see out of the window that the Pod is LOADED onto a rocket outside. When you land, your Pod is unloaded into a room. Simple, easily done backstory. Why not?!

This topic never gets old. Grabs more popcorn. :)

My theory is people like audio animatronics. It's one of the few things Disney has that you can't get at any other theme parks. You remove one (or more) from the parks and people are going to get justifiably upset and want it back - that pretty much applies across the board for all attractions with AAs. You wouldn't see this volume of complaints if the magic carpet spinner (or even Autopia) disappeared.

There's still the fact that you'd be on Mars, which people would still complain about.
