Hall of Presidents

They could make it in the style of the movie at the new extension at Mount Vernon. For those who are unfamilar, Mount Vernon recently added a huge facility onto their existing one. I spend a lot of time there being that I am so close and that I am a historian. (not by trade but by education). The movie is interesting because it is almost like Philharmagic. What I mean is that when they show the winter at Valley Forge scene they actually blow fake snow at the audience. When they have one of the battle scenes the seats rumble at the sound of the canon fire.

Yeah I know. I was thinking about Knox's reputation for being such a robust man. Come to think of it, I never paid attention to the "Taft" AA, who was also a portly gentleman. :)
:eek:WOW.

That sounds AMAZINGGGGG...I havn't been there since 2002.:(

It is. They have added a whole new museum with tons of artifacts, including some of his books. ( I always love to see original libraries of historical figures). They have done quite a bit with many sites around here. I was at Montpelier last week and their restoration is fantastic. Gettysburg has also added a huge new Visitor Center. Hopefully the Smithsonian's American History museum will be opening up again soon as well. The biggest project that I am looking forward to is the long awaited "Capitol Museum and Visitor Center".

*screams*

*has the wonderful but expensive urge to travel*

The most recent "new" center I have been to is Valley Forge's and Independence Hall/Liberty Bell. That was last April...Truly amazing. The Bell's display area/backdrop with Independence Hall was fantastic. A HUGE improvement over the old one.

Very true...I wonder what the speaking order will be? GWash, Lincoln, Obama?

It would be cool to get some interaction between the presidents.:D

The current president always speaks first because of the roll call, and Lincoln's is used for the finale, so George Washington would be put in the middle.

And it's written by WDI Writers and the President's speech writers.

I have had just the opposite for the last three years. Lots of booing and snarls when the current president is speaking. Which was followed with giggling in response.
Same here. George W got so many boos in July even we, as Brits, were a little embarrassed.

Please remember the no politcal discussion rule. I've removed posts that discuss the reaction to specific presidents, both pro and con. Discussion about changes to the attraction are fine.

I'm sorry about all that smack I threw down about Taft. :lookaroun

At one time in the past, there was a short-lived a craze on some college campusi to wear a Millard Fillmore T-shirt.
It was a joke of course because most people did not know anything about Millard Filmore and the name sounded funny.

My favorite Animaniacs song! :sohappy: My students always love that when I show them that episode...

It's the only reason I know all the US Presidents (although it neglects to mention Grover Cleveland's two non consecutive terms)

Speaking of Grover, those songs about him and Benjamin Harrison from The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band are fun too!

Oh how musical this attraction could be....

Maybe in 2012 we will see Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, or Bobby Jindal in the Hall of Presidents :sohappy:

Then again, maybe in 2012, we'll see a new & improved Obama AA, and then in 2016, an older-but-even-wiser Al Gore.

There. Now the board's balanced out again. The mods have asked/begged/demanded that no political preferences be discussed here. If that's just too damned difficult for you to do, stay away. I may be the most-vocal lib on the board, yet I do my darnedest to honor the rules of the people who provide us all a cool place to geek out on our Disneylove. If no one else, respect them.
