Just in from the WDTC ... projected WDW resort occupancy for the month: 35%.

Now you know why all those cuts have been made, all those offers are in the pipeline and why so many CMs won't be having happy holidays.

Just an FYI, but most hotels and resorts don't make money until they sell out 60% of their rooms and Disney is used to load levels in the 80s most months.

Not Frigid for DVC members

That may be true for resort room occupancy, but not for DVC rooms. I'm trying to get an additional day around the Marathon and I'm still on a wait list at three different resorts.

That's for the month. It doesn't mean you couldn't have an issue getting a room at a certain resort for marathon weekend ... although I do wonder if it includes straight DVC bookings or if they're considered seperately for purposes of overall occupancy.

Either way, January doesn't look good at all. 35% occupancy would be about what things were like in fall 2001.

I can't believe that's true. If it is, Disney is in way more trouble than they've let on.

Uhm, gee, why would Disney want this news out there?

So its stock could plummet?

Right now, Disney is doing very well compared to other media companies ... great you might even say.

News like this could cause itchy investors to pull their money out very quickly.

WDW1974, just out of morbid curiousity, what are the bookings like for Feb. - June? I read they were down 10% for the first two quarters, but with only 35% occupancy for Jan., I think 10% is way off.

How can you say ttheir stock is doing great? 4months ago I sold my shares at almost $35.00 per share. Now it's between $20-$22 per share. That's about a 40% drop, how is that great?

WOo HOo!

I have a feeling my January trip will be one of the best yet.

This can also mean good news for others wanting to go to WDW...as in there will surely be more tempting and outrageous offers and bargin deals being announced to attract business.

Fall 09' could shape up to be one of the BEST times ever to visit if they were to announce some mega-offer. This will be interesting to watch and see what happens.

I do feel bad however for the CM's and others who are losing work or their jobs outright because of the downturn. Hopefully things will work out so everyone can make it out okay.

yeah less wait times for me!!!! :sohappy: :sohappy: :D :hammer: :lookaroun

Thats my thought exactly. I like having minimal wait times so I will be loving the fewer crowds in January. However, something does not add up because I had trouble getting ADRs for some of Disneys most popular resturants. The poster makes it seem like no one is going to Disney whereas, people really are going still.
