I'm sure its been said, but Flash Photography in dark rides has gotten completely out of hand since digital cameras have become common.
It used to be that the cost of film kept people from going nuts with it. But now that every 10 yr old has a digital camera with unlimited pics it is like a strobe light is illuminating PotC and the other dark rides.
The aggravating thing is that its not like the photos will come out worth a flip. If you have a digital camera you should know how to work it and how to get a good pic in the dark without your flash. Even when the flash pics do come out, it looks nothing like the actual set that you see because it is all lit up.
Back in the day when slides were all the rage, WDW sold sets of slides that were either of a particular land (shots of Liberty Square for example) and sets of the interior of rides. Professionaly done so that they looked great and just like you remember the scene in the attraction (say the ballroom in the Haunted Mansion). Then when you got home you simple dropped these slides in with your own slides and you had a great looking presentation.
I wish WDW would be as vocal about flash photography as they are with no smoking. Its not like they don't have plenty of time in the queue to get the point across. A simple message from Cap'n Jack about how real pirates don't use flash would do the trick.
Seems like they could do this now with CDs. Buy a CD that has great pics of the area and its attractions and then work them into your digital pic slide shows or scrap books when you get home.
You would think it a win/win for them. Happier guests in the attraction, happier guests when they get home and want to remember their trip, and WDW makes a buck to boot.
