EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

After all this silliness lately, I decided
to take a peek through this thread to see how we got to this point, and man seeing all the optimism in 2019, what sweet summer children we were. The first 20+ pages about how Disney “knew it had to be right, they’re doing tons of work, dreamfinder is gonna be a celebrity VA, it’ll do the ride justice” and all the talk of removing the pyramids to make it great, we all seemed so sure of ourselves. And then it was phase two. And then COVID happened. Seeing all that optimism fade over time to where we are now, not gonna lie, was kinda depressing. Here we are, six years later, back at square one. I would say where did it all go wrong, but we kinda know where. At this point I barley feel anything about the future of the pavilion. The same cycle every time. Man.
Being an Epcot Fan lately has been suffering.

You can tell how long someone has been an EPCOT/Figment fan based on how seriously they take a new rumor of something being developed for this pavilion

2008: "guys they just filed a permit that says 'imagination demolition' WOAH maybe they're bringing Dreamfinder back!!!"

2015: They're making a COMIC BOOK SERIES with, you won't believe this, THE DREAMFINDER! This is great news, we might see the 1983 ride return!"

2022: "OH. MY. GOLLY. GOSH! A Figment MOVIE! Yaaaaaay! Dreamfinder is almost certain to return to the ride!"

2023: "OMG!!! They're making a kids book about the original ride!!! And... Figment VISITED Walt Disney Studios. This has to mean they're planning to bring Dreamfinder back!!!"

2024: "Holy MOLY. Josh Gad, THE Josh Gad, is calling for Figment to be refurbished! Surely now, Disney will fix the ride and return it to it's 1983-1998 glory!"

It's like the Half Life 3 of theme park attractions.

We've waited longer for a new Figment ride than Half-Life fans have waited for Half-Life 3.

This ride is old enough to drink; the 1983 ride never got to that age.

When the 2002 ride came out, VHS tapes were still common, HDTV was rare, only a year had passed from 9/11, shows like Rugrats, The Powerpuff Girls, Dragon Tales and Clifford The Big Red Dog were still airing new episodes, the Iraq War hadn't begun, and YouTube was still nonexistent. As was MySpace (2003), Facebook (2004; became public in 2006) and Twitter/X (2006).

If the 2002 ride lasts after 2029, Dreamfinder will have been gone from the ride twice as long as the original even existed.

Still not as bad as the current version of SSE, a ride about the history of communication, predating the iPhone and the rise of social networks which are both arguably the biggest communication developments ever

The iPhone came out on June 29, 2007. This means that iPhone users had exactly 10 days to ride the Jeremy Irons version of SSE with an iPhone.

Figment's yellow sweater made an appearance on the most recent Chibiverse episode, the first(?) time Figment's been referenced on DTVA. Someone before said that Figment was in an episode of House of Mouse, but I have skimmed through almost all of the episodes and I have yet to see him in the audience.

Good detective work! I would not have expected a reference to figment in the chibiverse.

Is there a way to read this image that doesn't imply he's dead though

No news since the initial article, and all this news over the past couple months of movie productions getting shut down at studios across Disney?

…....yeah that figment movie is totally dead

Maybe we’ll get some cool concept art or a story outline in 5-10 years!

And honestly, with how risk averse modern Disney is, because Haunted Mansion 2023 and Jungle Cruise both didn’t do well, i honestly think that aside from pirates, ride based movies are probably done for a while.

I didn’t, but i respect your opinion. I think HM’s problem was that at times it felt too focused on the wink-wink “putting in ride refrences as a plot point” that it wasn't a coherent story. I honestly think, at this point, the “Haunted Mansion Movie” dream needs to be let go. That del toro mansion movie could’ve been something special though.

Plus, Disney sold haunted mansion stuff this Halloween and some at Christmas time, and from my friends who work at a spirit, apparently it all sold out a bunch of times. So maybe, haunted mansion doesn't need to be a movie anyway.

Also did we really want Jared Leto in mansions around the world? And to an extent, the rock in the jungle cruises?

But yeah figment or whatever.
