EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

What exactly proves some of the animatronics in current Figment aren't from the original? Did anyone claim they aren't?
Original ride figures (5 of the first Opening scene figure):

Current ride upside down house & blast finale figures:

None, none of those are from the original. All newly fabricated & different poses. Again, just shocking, that falsehood about the 02-current iteration’s upside down house & blast finale scenes. Since it can be proven false ‘that’ easily upon doing the actual research. Why someone would lie to Jim Hill about this, I’m not sure, unless it was a genuine misremembering of details.. but yeah, very clearly “the upside down house & finale reuse original ride figures” is a falsehood/lie.

Now.. in regards to the Sound & Detour scenes prior and the very last astronaut Figment by the Channing Moon face (now repainted yellow & purple). ‘Those’ are the same sculpts & movements as the originals from what I can identify. Current Sound Lab Figment = Original Realm of Art Figment w Rainbow Jar, retrofitted onto 1 of 5 Original Dreamcatching Machine Hatch mechanisms to lift him up & down and rotate to the left & back to center, Current Detour Figment = Original Film Finale Figment, and Current Last Astronaut Figment = Original Transition from Theatre to Science & Technology Astronaut Figment. Judging by both the sculpts at various angles and all their movements/specific articulated parts watching many ride throughs.

Of course, for a more full documentation of various camera views & info for all 3 iterations of the ride. These 3 videos by Martin Smith are a def must-watch. But still, some details missing/unclear regarding the 2 versions that came after the original. Particularly creative decisions/thought process (why) for each new scene, who & what was behind them, and the queue rope, signage, the new awning, and monorail spiel change factors into changing the attraction during Honey, I Shrunk the Audience’s run I mentioned earlier in this thread and evidenced in my earlier posts, also talked about in David Koenig’s Realityland book :

And of course, upon watching and looking carefully upon the Figment figures. You’ll find the very same findings I found regarding them and what was and wasn’t reused in the 02-current iteration from the Original.

that's how I remember it...people were that "bored" of the movie (and because they discovered the backdoor they realized they didn't descend at all so they hydrolators sadly lost their "magic"). I remember it was a big joke even with the cast members:

"it rained. And it rained......"
I just remembered another reason for the immediate-pre-Nemo-format.....

With the hydrolators' illusion shattered, people didn't want to wait in a second line just to get to the main part of the attraction (just like there are essentially "2 queues" to Haunted Mansion).

And with my family doing 3 parks in one day (twice a year)...it was a significant "time savings" to compliment our mastery of the free Fastpass 1.0 system.

Just had to note -

The Original ‘Journey’ Astronaut Figment AA is in a private collection.
The figure in the current version of the Attraction must therefore be a reproduction.

Ironically the original JII was ahead of its time having an on-ride photo although that was obviously due to Kodak being the ride sponsor.

Nowadays it’s so commonplace but can easily be included again if we ever do see an Imagination 4.
I never, ever thought of doing it before with any attraction...but I maaaaay consider buying the photo if they restore 1.0 😍

So according to “The Site That Shall Not Be Named”, The Figment Meet n Greet now has his Holiday sweater, but it’s missing the details the one the audio-animatronic figures in the ride wear (the classic spiral logo & glass pyramids/pavilion building). Why, I wonder? That’s weird. Still great to see him in his sweater though! 👍🏻👍🏻, but again, odd to have those inconsistencies when 2 animatronic figures in the ride wear the very same sweater.. and they released both a human sized wearable one via merch, a pin, and had a magnet with a snowman Dreamfinder & Figment in said sweater about a year ago or so retaining said details… Huh, oh well. 🤷‍♂️

Exactly!! (And same!) 👍🏻👍🏻 And again, now you could do something really cool with the photos, like have Figment doing something fun with us guests on it. Would make sense with Dreamfinder dressed as a director there. Like have us be a part of the action we see him do during that film finale scene prior. And it changes for every vehicle.

Ya know.. I was thinking btw, regarding new ideas for a comeback of 1.0. What if there was a “Dreamcatching Band” Dreamfinder’s created that us guests can purchase at “Dreamfinder & Figment’s Gift Port” (renamed former Kodak Film & Camera Shop within the pavilion). And with that, depending on what you interact with/do in the parks & resort. It’d add different sparks to your band. And when you’d use in the ImageWorks, to “Dream Your Own Figment” (perhaps that activity could be added either ‘there’ or in the upstairs ImageWorks in an improved form, maybe that can replace the old “Making Faces” (think early SnapChat filters) activity). You could use those sparks gathered from each activity & attraction/area to customize your very own figment of imagination, of your own name & unique combination of sparks. Perhaps you could even 3D print it at the Gift Port and purchase little accessories for it around the parks too that they’d offer in each gift shop.

A little extra something to motivate guests to spend more time & do more things around the parks & resort to get a full experience, without massively intruding on the existing park going experience nor being a requirement to fully enjoy everything as-is. That’d actually be a big advantage that’d up them from Universal’s reign atm. It’d actually encourage guests to do more & use their own creative abilities. Ya know, the thing Disney used to do. Inspire that inner childlike curiosity, sense of discovery & creative spirit within us all. 😁

Yes! And hey, on that note, why not bring Tom Morrow 2.0 back to the new CommuniCore Hall to be the mascot there again. Those cafeteria/break area tables sure aren’t doing much. Have a little interactive show in there. Maybe show off the new things Imagineering is developing in there aswell as other technologies Disney is trying out that us guests can see & experiment with ourselves there. Use it as Disney’s tech expo space, that way it can be updated often. ‘And’ have other companies Disney works with come and display things there too. Treat it as an actual little tech expo space. If we can have Art, Flower & Garden and Food & Wine Festivals there annually otherwise, why not that too? Make it worth it to go. You get a fabulous tech expo space ‘and’ a great theme park experience overall

Again, yet another thing Disney would have a ‘Huge’ advantage over Universal in regards to offering experiences of that nature. Universal doesn’t really have any space to do & hold that kind of thing. Disney does though.

I've been giving this a lot of serious thought and reflection. The conversation on this thread (& I've only read the last several pages...not the first 300+ lol) reminded me of so much in major two ways:
  1. Just what an Imagineering masterpiece JII (aka "1.0") was. How much they crammed into it...so many lessons from so much that preceded it...so much collaboration by some of the best minds that ever worked for Disney.
  2. (far more importantly than #1) I was reminded of how much this attraction meant to me during my earliest childhood, my most formative of years....memories I buried as a teenager (compounded by being tail-end of GenX and it being the '90s lol) that started to downplay the attraction as a "kiddie ride," memories shared with my immediate family in most special ways..... memories that resurfaced thru the prism of healing and striving to be my most authentic self. Memories of what felt transcendent....
For these reasons and more I can now argue that Journey Into Imagination is indeed my absolute favorite lifelong ride. Thank you to @FigmentsBrightIdeas and others here for helping me realize what I had long-before forgotten. 🏆

My (other) point is....I'm sure many others have had similar histories...I'm sure others who never experienced it would be at-least as deeply touched....if only they bring it back!
