They've told you wrong ;) Seriously I have been in the park on several occasions late at night, and the place is superbly lit. It isnt flodlit, but it is lit exactly the way an animal kingdom should be lit. Wonderfully atmospheric.

I have quite a few pictures of the park at night, I will post them up on the site when I get a minute.

Yes please!

now if only someone could get a hold of the 3D ride through, I think that would satisfy me until the real thing comes along :animwink:

Great photos and links, thanks!

these pics are amazing! i think this entire area around everest is disney themeing and story telling all the way! i'm almost... 'proud' of them.

i am very confused about this vehicle though. it doesn't look like a typical coaster train. what is the out-house looking thing on the back of that car, and will each car have that? the car looks great though, with attention to themeing. does anyone know where 'steam donkey' comes from?

being 6'9", i can fit into BTMRR, Splash (barely) RNRC (front of car only) and BARELY BARELY BARELY on SM, in the third seat of a car... i PRAY that i can fit into a steam donkey.

Steve, thanks for the pics!

The ride vehicle that you see will be the back car only. It's supposed to be the train's "engine". With the engine being in the very back, it won't hinder anyone's view.

The thing that is most surprising about the ride is that you are on it for about 20-30 seconds before you reach the main lift. Then once you get to the top of the lift, it's still a bit slow moving for a while. But then it gets crazy! :)

They remind me of the BTR cars. Can't wait to ride EE. Thanks for sharing.

I agree, but they definitely look to have a whole new dimension. BTMRR has cars that look new for the time period. These look to have a more rustic, weather-beaten look. (Note: I think this is a good thing. It matches the respective themes more).

Can't wait! I haven't been there since ground was broken.

My eyes could be decieving me, so someone else take a look and tell me what they see, but I see in the photos that steve posted, the program on the screen says "Maya 4.0" in the top left corner.

I thought it was odd that they would use Maya for that. It's pefectly capable of doing so, but there are better programs for such a project. Maya is the base program used by Pixar, although they have modified it a bit, no doubt. Disney was using it as well, back in the days of the active Florida studio, and I'm sure they still use it now, but I've seen no first hand evidence of it as in Florida.

And yeah, as for home use for fun, good luck. Back when I was in school, the full version was thousands, and I do means THOUSANDS of dollars. There was a pirated version floating around our school, of course, but that was a long time ago.

Maybe it is Maya...I can't read what the screen says.
I DO know that they used Common Point 4-d for the design of the mountain and track.

Here is an article that discusses it. There are more sites out there that mention it.

The thing I like about the cars is that they seem much more open than BTMRR. I could be wrong, but from that pic they seem very open.

so just to clarify.....

what exactly is being added as part of the "village" at the base of the mountain?

-Theres the loading station and queue area.

-A fastpass distribution.

-and are the shop and restaurant a sure thing? ...does anyone know more?

I took a look at those pics very closely, and I noticed something. In the picture where Joe is showing off the Everest model, you can clearly notice in the corner the tracks coming out of the mountain. I get the feeling that this is probably the part in the ride in which the Yeti throws the train backwards. I circled the spot I am talking about in the ic below. Any thougts?

This is the part where the train starts to go backwards, but the track does not move and the Yeti is not their from what I have read.

As you can see the photo below the track doesn't move, also right under it is where the train switches back to foward again. Yeti would not fit in that area.

I also put a photo of the switch track section. As you can see there is track on both sides of the spin, after the train goes over that section the track rotates and then the train starts moving backwards into the next portion
