Not cheapo (hell, it's more expensive!) but just not as good.

Ah come on, let's at least revel in the fact that not EVERYTHING TDL gets is better than what we have here in the USA.

Let's say they wasted SOME of the $$$.

Shadows...sounds...smells...damaged track.... :D

Unbeknownst to most Disneyphiles, there was a failed marketing ploy to have Yeti-turds available in the attraction shop. :p

This attraction looks absolutely fantastic! I haven't been excited about something new at WDW for some time now. Thanks for all the inside info everybody!

I'm in the same boat you are. I'm more excited for this than I was Mission: Space and Top Thrill Dragster, and I was really excited for those rides!

I guess the money they saved went on redesigning the EMV`s so they don`t leak hydraulic fluid everywhere (TDL EMV`s use compressed air)

My eyes could be decieving me, so someone else take a look and tell me what they see, but I see in the photos that steve posted, the program on the screen says "Maya 4.0" in the top left corner... Maya is the base program used by Pixar, although they have modified it a bit, no doubt.
Yep, that's Maya. I use it myself and recognize the menus and components (Hypershade, Timeline, Shelf, etc.)

The program Pixar uses is called Marionette. From what I've seen of the animators' screens in the Pixar DVD documentaries, Marionette doesn't look much like Maya, at least not any version of it since 3.0. That doesn't mean it wasn't based on it originally, but considering Pixar's history (having been created by George Lucas's people and pioneering the early days of CGI) it seems unlikely that Maya and Marionette are related. I don't know this for sure though.

From Pixar's Job FAQ on their website, "Pixar uses its own proprietary software called Marionette, built and maintained in-house."

And also, if you really want Maya, check out the student version (you can't save).
Actually, a Personal Learning Edition of Maya is freely available and it allows you to save your work. It is a nearly complete version of the program with the only hinderances being some restrictions on importing/exporting and a very prominent watermark on the screen in any shaded viewports or renderings.

If you really want MAYA, a student at many art schools, mostly "SCAD" in GA. give there students copies for like $100 bucks or less from what the people told us. Might look into it. .. But there are always other ways to get it..
..

Holy Smoke, you Rock :sohappy: They look way cooler life size than the little models, although I thought the cars would have more of a woodgrain look to them.
