Does anyone know the projected ride capacity per hour compared to other recent attractions? Are we gonna see 2 hour waits for this or will guests be able to see this without waisting an entire day. (Perhaps, Disney would want people to wait longer for this ride as many believe that AK is an incomplete park).

that still may be a struggle, though, being that the park isn't equipped with adequate lighting to stay open long after nightfall.

AK is very well equiped for night operations. The lighting of the park is stunning at night. During the winter and spring periods they now often have days when the park is open until 8pm, and during that time it is as dark as it gets in Orlando, and things were just as well as at any other park. :)

I think that a nightime show over the lagoon in front of Everest (between Asia and Dinoland) would be stunning.

Something based on the "Northern Lights" (i.e. using lasers, lights, and projections) all at once would be quite amazing. I've always been quite fond of all the music used in Animal Kingdom, so an original musical score would be added bonus.

This does raise the issue of disturbing the animals, though. So maybe loud fireworks are out of the question.

I thought they want to develope a light show for the park, that would be powerful enough to keep people there yet quiet enough to not disturb the aminal. It could easily work, but I would almost be inclined to have a set-up like Fantasmic. It would be much more controlled then.

I was told by DAK management that whenever the park is open for after hours events and such, they have to bring in several lamp posts to light the park because there is no stationery lighting set up, and that it would cost quite a bit of money to install permanent lighting (a rehab would be in order). I've also been told that at DAK at night you can't see your hand in front of your face.

i like the northern lights idea. good call and over the water would be really nice.

well, the animals could have some sort of ear muffs they could put on......... just watch what kind of fur you put around the muffs because some might get offended (ie: im sure a leopard wouldnt want leopard print)

You shouldn't believe everything you hear. :)

There is lighting all over the park, and it is very cool at night. Pay attention next time to all of the neat bamboo lights in the oasis, and the weird mushroom lights on the island. Trust me they are there. Ak is open untill 8 on many holidays, and every tuesday of EEMH.

Lighting and Nightime Show

I've heard that lighting in DAK is very similar to the lighting at Typhoon Lagoon which is absolutely amazing. When groups come for evening surfing times, that place is gorgeous.

And DAK already has a nighttime show. They have used it in the past for press events and other private events. I think it was called "Pyro-Rama" and used in the Dino-Rama area. I'm not sure how they deal with loudness for the animals, but I know that it uses pyrotechnics and the like....

Sad to hear that there will be no sit-down restaraunt in Asia now

But maybe when this alleged new area comes in they will put one in....
CampFood anyone?? :hammer: :sohappy:

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I think California Screamin' at DCA has onboard sound and that's an outdoor roller coaster. I'm hoping for onboard sound but won't be that disappointed if its not part of the package.

Not a good example...Screamin's sound doesn't work half the time.

Only the rear car in each train will have that.

Great photos, Steve!

It's good to see that Imagineering is still sticking with a modified version of the best 3D software out there, Maya. Looks like it's base is version 4.0 from what I can tell in the photo.

They've told you wrong ;) Seriously I have been in the park on several occasions late at night, and the place is superbly lit. It isnt flodlit, but it is lit exactly the way an animal kingdom should be lit. Wonderfully atmospheric.

I have quite a few pictures of the park at night, I will post them up on the site when I get a minute.

these pics are amazing! i think this entire area around everest is disney themeing and story telling all the way! i'm almost... 'proud' of them.

i am very confused about this vehicle though. it doesn't look like a typical coaster train. what is the out-house looking thing on the back of that car, and will each car have that? the car looks great though, with attention to themeing. does anyone know where 'steam donkey' comes from?

being 6'9", i can fit into BTMRR, Splash (barely) RNRC (front of car only) and BARELY BARELY BARELY on SM, in the third seat of a car... i PRAY that i can fit into a steam donkey.

Steve, thanks for the pics!

I don't know what Maya is...but Everest was designed with the Common Point 4-D system, as was HKDL's Space Mountain, Paradise Pier, etc.
