Disney to buy Marvel Entertainment

Why can't Marvel fix both?

Pixar was thrown into every park under the sun afterall and Marvel is far more appealing to park guests
How many people visited IOA last year? How many visited MK and Epcot?
84 pages of drivel like this? ... What's abundantly clear is there is a large number of comic geeks here who also happen to like WDW ... and a larger percentage of those folks don't get what this deal is about and what it isn't ... and worse ... what Disney parks like MK and EPCOT are all about.

No wonder Disney can dumb its offerings down so much. If people here actually can rationalize how Marvel characters have a place in a MK-style park (and everyone from Disney or close who I've heard talking say that's not ever happening anyway, which doesn't stop the insane banter from going on ad nauseum), then how much damage can a little blue alien or a cute wittle clownfish do?

And the thought that Marvel is more appealing to guests than Pixar is quite simply crazy.

Pixar films appeal to folks across all demos ... that's why films from Toy Story to Finding Nemo to Cars to Ratatouille to Up are huge successes.

Unlike superhero films that have a much, much, much smaller spread of fans beyond fanbois who may see an X-men or Transformers or Ironman multiple times.

It's a very select comic book film that gets into the public consciousness. The Dark Knight certainly would be the biggest. But there are few.

Why these threads aren't moved to the Comic Book Board is beyond me ... except they are driving traffic.

But they have nothing to do with WDW News or Rumors ... Disney Business or Universal ... but that's about it.
Agreed again.
I think this deal is purely about Disney expanding their reach as a media powerhouse, adding to their television, movie, theme park, and overall entertainment muscle. That's all it is. If you have the extra money to acquire one of the top names in a business that relates, why not do it? They've done it before with ABC.

That said, I think it is kind of a bizarre match, and somewhat strange deal considering the limited options Disney has (at present) with some of the major properties in regards to movies and theme parks, what I would say are Disney's two core businesses.
That seems closer to the truth.
The real Disney company died with Walt and Roy. Let Stan Lee and George Lucas take the reigns now and shepard us into a new utopia!
So by that logic, WDW was never really operated by the real Disney company. Disney should be building attractions that create characters, not the other way around.
Don't be afraid of change. It comes where you like it or not.
I do not think he is, it just depends on the change.

But if you made Tomorrowland into Marvel land, you would be tarnishing Walt's original magic kingdom park concept.

Completely getting rid of one of the orignal lands, and retheming it completely to characters from a completely different franchise? That's terrible!

Who knows what he'd think? Sure Walt's tomorrowland is in Epcot, but I love the current TL's futre that never was theme and I thought it was awesome in its hey day and it can be awesome again without Marvel characters.

I'm all for a fantastical depiction of the future. I'm just not sure WDI is sold on the idea.

Well, except for those cool new LED's!

You really think that has anything to do with Pixar or Marvel?
It helps.

Yes, there are quite a few factors that influence that. I do not mean to bash IOA. I just do not know how someone could say that Marvel is more appealing than Pixar. I think they both have their audience.

Thank you! Perfectly said.

So nothing now is Disney? What is it?

Fantastical, how? In reality with it being Horizons-esque or it being superheros Living with the Land?:lookaroun

Update from leemac:

For clarity NBC-U have been told that they will have no further access to additional Marvel characters (IoA had been looking at exploiting one of the other killer franchises in the stable). Disney are currently evaluating whether to break the existing arrangement (which is possible). That is specifically why WDP&R have been silent on the announcement. Ultimately no contract is cast-iron (pardon the pun) - there are almost always change of control clauses when one party is purchased by a competitor

I love how Marvel has just absolutely infested almost everything across these boards. Get your fix now, fanboys, because this is the most mixture of Disney theme parks and Marvel you'll see for a long, long time.

I know if this deal had happened with DC instead, you wouldn't see me clamoring for Wonder Woman in Fantasyland, or Green Lantern in Tomorrowland, or Jonah Hex in Frontierland, or The Flash or STAR Labs in EPCOT, or Vixen in Animal Kingdom.

Well said.

I'm hoping and thinking that the D23 Shindig will shove it alllllll under the rug.

I would much rather read pages upon pages of things happening for Disney, rather than Fanboys wetting themselves over a man in tights.:lookaroun:lol:

Yes, that was rude, and I don't care.:lookaroun

Instead we'll have fanboys wetting themselves over men with lightsabers.

What's the difference?
