Disney to buy Marvel Entertainment

Why can't Marvel fix both?

Pixar was thrown into every park under the sun afterall and Marvel is far more appealing to park guests

84 pages of drivel like this? ... What's abundantly clear is there is a large number of comic geeks here who also happen to like WDW ... and a larger percentage of those folks don't get what this deal is about and what it isn't ... and worse ... what Disney parks like MK and EPCOT are all about.

No wonder Disney can dumb its offerings down so much. If people here actually can rationalize how Marvel characters have a place in a MK-style park (and everyone from Disney or close who I've heard talking say that's not ever happening anyway, which doesn't stop the insane banter from going on ad nauseum), then how much damage can a little blue alien or a cute wittle clownfish do?

And the thought that Marvel is more appealing to guests than Pixar is quite simply crazy.

Pixar films appeal to folks across all demos ... that's why films from Toy Story to Finding Nemo to Cars to Ratatouille to Up are huge successes.

Unlike superhero films that have a much, much, much smaller spread of fans beyond fanbois who may see an X-men or Transformers or Ironman multiple times.

It's a very select comic book film that gets into the public consciousness. The Dark Knight certainly would be the biggest. But there are few.

Why these threads aren't moved to the Comic Book Board is beyond me ... except they are driving traffic.

But they have nothing to do with WDW News or Rumors ... Disney Business or Universal ... but that's about it.

And think about what you said about Walt Disney. Walt owned his characters, minus Oswald. Why wouldn't Walt's original creations be part of the studio he founded?

Thats what my point is, now that Lasseter is head of Disney Animation wouldn't his creations loosely fall under the same guidelines as Walt's? In theory?

Ditto.

But some people on these boards are crazy to think that the Marvel characters don't have a place in the parks at all. Here a question for people who think like that should Whinne The Pooh be band from the parks?

Eh, people are often scared of change. Give em time I guess.

Okay...

Now that Stan Lee is part of Disney why doesn't his?

I think this deal is purely about Disney expanding their reach as a media powerhouse, adding to their television, movie, theme park, and overall entertainment muscle. That's all it is. If you have the extra money to acquire one of the top names in a business that relates, why not do it? They've done it before with ABC.

That said, I think it is kind of a bizarre match, and somewhat strange deal considering the limited options Disney has (at present) with some of the major properties in regards to movies and theme parks, what I would say are Disney's two core businesses.

:drevil: Very true, I hadn't looked at it from that angle. (Mouth meet Foot)

My only concern about the Marvel Universe is that I hope it doesn't wind up in the MK, but rather would find a place at DHS.

Agreed.

I think a until they can put them in the parks a Marvel overhaul of Disney Quest would be great!

Don't be afraid of change. It comes where you like it or not.

While I agree that DHS is the best place for them, I don't think that's the only place they could be.

I still think Iron Man fits very well in the current WDW Tomorrowland. And Innoventions.

But if you made Tomorrowland into Marvel land, you would be tarnishing Walt's original magic kingdom park concept.

Completely getting rid of one of the orignal lands, and retheming it completely to characters from a completely different franchise? That's terrible!

I keep saying it but I guess I need to. Walt's Tomorrowland is at Epcot. And he always believed the parks should be improved and evolve. Not sure what he would think of a marvel-land in the MK but I'm pretty certain he'd have something to say about the current state of WDW's T-Land. And it wouldn't be positive. Except for those new LED's for the TTA.:)

Who knows what he'd think? Sure Walt's tomorrowland is in Epcot, but I love the current TL's futre that never was theme and I thought it was awesome in its hey day and it can be awesome again without Marvel characters.

Wow...never thought I'd completely 100% agree with you...that's definitely a first...
