Disney Springs Plans: What do they mean?

So, I've had some time to look thru the 200-plus pages of plans and architectural renderings and blueprints for Disney Springs (i.e. the latest rebranding of what was once the quaint WDW Shopping Village at LBV ... complete with barber shop, post office, deli and pet shop).

In full disclosure, I had a friend go over them with me who is in the business, and could 'splain certain things to me.

The first thing people may wonder why Disney Springs, something so generic? Apparently, water is going to be featured prominently (until those water features break or need repair at which time they will be filled with potted plants and trash) and the inspiration is the Mickey topiary pouring water into buckets that you see at the entrance to the current 'Marketplace'.

Everywhere they can stick a water feature or a bridge, they will be doing so.

Most lacking from the plans is in ANY direct entrance/egress from I-4. There isn't any. You will simply follow traffic clogged, albeit reworked Buena Vista Drive into a massive parking structure (as garages are called out west). I do wonder how well this will work as folks here aren't used to parking in them and I can one person holding up traffic for someone to fill up their SUV and leave on Level 2 when Level 4 has 543 empty spaces. SHould be interesting. I see no reason to believe traffic will be any better, just that it will be reallocated, if you will.

Also, there is no attempt made at internal transport beyond the boats they currently have. Meaning the biggest complaint many people have -- that it's too much walking (have you seen the average WDW guest?) -- isn't being addressed.

New nicely designed pedestrial bridges are all over this from one across the Marina area ... to one in almost the exact place they knocked the old Westside to PI access bridge down not that many years ago.

The project is being designed by the Boston-firm that built the Americana at Brand in Glendale. On one hand, they know how to do quality outdoor lifetsytle centers ... on the other hand, that's what they are good at. The newest way of looking at malls.

MORE to come ...
any drawing you can post ?

I didn't see what you posted but there are actually 2 separate parking structures. The photo they posted only shows 1 and that's about a year old now.
Wouldn't be the proposal with a second, larger structure near DQ/Cirque would it?

Avatar was around $80M too. Maybe we are in line for a whole land dedicated to Oz.
I don't see WDW being in line for a whole land dedicated to OZ unless it is forced upon without TDO having a say. The fact to is TDO doesn't like to do attractions without Disney parks out of WDW doing them first due to the fact TDO doesn't want all the cost for attractions.

If a whole land to Oz goes to a Disney Park, I think it would go to Shanghai Disneyland, DLP/DSP, or Hong Kung Disneyland. I mentioned Shanghai Disneyland because the fact is the park will need expansions after it opens.

Hong Kung Disneyland could get one Depending on what Shanghai Disneyland gets for attractions since Hong Kung Disneyland still wants to add stuff to their park.

DLP/DSP could be an option for OZ because the fact is Ratatouille Kitchen Calamity, Star Wars land, and Marvel land may not be enough for getting Disneyland Paris out of Debt.

I agree totally. I was more taking a shot at Avatar and Avatarland than seriously suggesting an Oz land. Although it would be pretty cool if done right and think of all the little people who would have new employment opportunities. Sure you'll never make it in the NBA, but you will always have a job at Oz Land;)

Can you see an Oz land working at AK where Avatarland/Pandora is expected to go? Since we're talking about DD/Disney Springs here could we see some Oz merchandise make it's way to some of the retail stores there or has Oz merchandise already been out and about there?

Do tell ... I love stories ... Disney stories ... MAGICal Disney stories.

Michael Eisner sued my father, then tried to hire him to take over Resort marketing for WDW, while UNI tried to hire him for same position and adviser to take on Disney. Those free Disney DVDs... That idea came from my dad. The first was a video that included most of Orlando tourism, including Disney. No groupies, though. ;)

Central Florida tourism was much different in the 1980-90s. Nowhere near as big as it used to be in regards to Travel Agencies. Free admittance, free merch, VIP treatment, getting into new parks before the general public, etc.

Not a whole land, but a beautifully themed bathroom is not out of the question;). The merchandise should/will show up if the movie is even a mild success.

So I made it to page 15 and had to stop.

I like progress, change, something new, what ever you want to call it. Ill be happy with what '74 posted up first or Raven or Lee or any other insider that I missed as long as something happens. Now I don't think my opinion matters much because even on my 6-7 day trips I still take time out to go to the outlets on I-drive and do a little Orlando exploring. This upgrade wont change my trip much because I also take time out to go to DTD for atleast 1 evening per trip already.

Now if Disney really wanted to try and keep me on property to take more of my money and not go else where to spend it, give me an adult nighttlife area with 21+ yr old clubs (im 25). Something my G/F and I started 2 trips ago is leaving the parks early atleast 1 night and driving over to UNI Citywalk for a fun adult style night without kids everywhere.

If Disney cruise ships can have adult only areas, why can't DTD??

Toddlers, older kids, teenagers, none of these really bother me and I do know Disney's main focus is more on families then a couple in their mid 20s so I know the days of night clubs on Disney property is most likey over with but it would be nice to have that back. Until then, I'll be at Citywalk.

I feel for you. PI was still open when I was a young adult visiting WDW as a couple without kids. It was great. Parks all day and New Years Eve every night. Jellyrolls is still a good time, but it's difficult to get to unless you are staying at an EPCOT resort or have a car. I can't understand why they would not take the area formerly know as Pleasure Island and still make it adults only, at least after 8PM or something like that. With the proposed expansion you would not need to cut through PI to get to the West Side so there is no logistical issues with blocking off the area. The clubs are gone for good as is having a paid admission area, but they could still have something just adult to offer at night and maybe some live, outdoor entertainment to go with it.
