Hmmmm....
Gonna go back and check my stuff. It's from December, and I don't recall a second garage.
Interesting. Are two really needed?
I believe the final plans were post Jan, and they do include the second parking structure.

More importantly, do you know if they have any direct access to said structures from I-4?

The December plans I have show absolutely none ... just rerouted Buena Vista Drive.

Yes I understand the I-4 connector is in. Although as we know with this one, it is in a constant state of change, but recently I understand the second garage and I-4 is in.

There's a market, as to what size, who knows? I firmly believe George and Andy's purchase was largely PR-related. I wouldn't even be surprised if Disney helped them out considerably with 'relocation expenses' ... when last I heard they had firm plans for about 40 homes, now whether that means they have sold that many, have deposits etc, I dunno.

Don't really care as I wish the area was never built. Yeah, poor Andy and George would have to live at Saratoga Springs forever.

I sorta suspected the same thing. I can't imagine why George would want to live there, especially as he's nearing Disney-retirement.

And I agree I wish it was never built either. Just like Flamingo Crossings, BLT, GF DVC....

I'm hearing that the I-4 exit details are still being worked on. You just know Disney isn't going to want to foot the whole bill for that.

And the City of Orlando just took a beating for the 9 million dollar bridge at Universal Studios. It will be interesting to see if Orange County is willing to take the same beating.

It will also be interesting to see how long it takes for Disney to hammer out a deal with the county and state officials and I haven't seen one public story on any negotiations taking place.

In fairness, isn't the pedstrian bridge contained solely within Universal property? Any kind of direct access from I-4 to DTD is going to have a positive effect on the I-4/535 area, which is easily the biggest traffic problem on the west side of the county. I-4 itself gets backed up because 535 can't handle its traffic. I think a better argument can be made for ponying up some taxpayer money.

I believe the pedestrian bridge is all on city property surrounded by Universal property. It's also being paid for from a fund financed by taxes levied on the Universal Orlando Resort.

And that is a fair statement, but still doesn't mean that a beating won't happen.

I am of the mindset of "let's do WHATEVER we can to make travel as easy as possible for tourists to Central Florida"

I love not paying personal state income tax, and that is only possible if we have lots of tourists spending lots of money.

Long are they days when they promoted the classy Disney resorts to empty-nester couples and promotional images showed nicely dressed folks eating in restaurants with strolling musicians.

Nowadays, I think they are going after rubes (credit due to WDW74) who are not well traveled and perhaps less savvy about the actual value of the product they are spending their money on. The touristy "Rizzos", if you will (credit to Kevin Yee).

To an extent this seems true, tho I think the rates at WDW hotels are the best proof yet that the "rubes" and "1%ers" aren't mutually exclusive. That said, WDW still draws a huge convention business. And convention-goers want nightlife. So buses are chartered to CityWalk, and hotel bars get stuffed to double their maximum occupancy, and I'm sure minibars are raided as guests crumble there's nothing good on Orlando TV ... but it seems like there could be a better way, one that would ultimately prove more profitable to TWDC.

I still miss dancing the night away at Mannaquins in the center of the spinning dance floor, with cold fog blasting down from the ceiling, with dancers dancing above in mirrored disco ball outfits, lights blast from behind the mirrored wall, and music so loud you couldn't tell the difference between the bass and your heart beat... (tear falls)

Without direct access to I-4, the whole project is a FAIL on the point of reducing traffic and congestion.

This post is a fail. I mean, after all, aren't we supposed to believe nobody will flock to a glorified TDO inspired outdoor mall?

We need a face palm smiley as simple sarcasm just does not cut it.

YES two garages are needed if they build DTD to its potential. A thousand times YES.

People flock to plenty of malls. That doesn't make them special. Walt Disney World should be special.

It will never be "special" to many here unless they rebuild PI. Even if they end up impressed they will never admit it and will look for things to find fault with. Just like they did with the amazing Rapunzel add at the MK. 74 even called for people to hate it even before finalized plans are released.

Crowds do not flock to malls like they once did. At least that demo over 21 years of age. But people will flock to a fully built out DTD.

Have to admit I'm getting tired or seeing more and more negativity around these boards too even when Disney does something right

I am of the opinion some of the negativity is mouse inspired. Possibly internal social media types. Negativity killed off another place and some of the same people now practice the same tactic here.

I think people would be shocked if they knew some of the people here who are mouse house employees. I know this because certain posters respond to me no matter what time a day I am here. No individual is on these boards 24/7.
