That would be absolutely awful if true. I mean, if they just want it to be a giant promotion park for their newest/popular movies then so be it, but it really ruins the purpose of the park. What happened to the celebration of all movies? There's more to movies than Star Wars and Toy Story. Hopefully they don't change their main street area, which has a really nice, classic Hollywood vibe.

Also, stop putting super loud and annoying stage shows right in the middle, they can be heard from all corners of the park and are really obnoxious.

I doubt they change the main street area, but the original vision of the park to be a "journey through the movies" has clearly changed. They want this park to be their main attraction for the teen demographic. I just don't see their plans being enough right now, though we will see going forward.

When Star Wars land opens, we don't need the launch bay anymore. Put a revised great movie ride in there. (Thanks for the upgrade, TCM, and bye! It's a different ride now!)

It could even be a walk-through and you would get to see the scenes more "up-close" than you could in the ride.

I'm wondering if they would not be able to do a new wizard of Oz display – aren't their rights to Oz limited?
Some sort of TCM walk through attraction with the AAs would be nice with GMR out. Alas, I shouldnt be this hopeful...

It's like they said "oh, Star Wars is popular again" and "Toy Story is pretty popular," yeah, that's good, now let's make giant areas of them and get rid of everything else. Honestly, I went there many times as a teenager and enjoyed the movie aspect of it. Granted, I also really like movies and appreciate the many ways they can be used for story telling.

It seems like they are trying so hard to be trendy (like when they got Avatar, which anymore has been far overshadowed by Disney's own movies, especially Marvel but also Star Wars) that they are in some ways lacking creativity/originality/uniqueness.

I think SW, TS, and Marvel have staying power. That having been said, can you imagine in the 1970s pointy headed execs saying, "We need a Witch Mountain land or better yet Love Bug land." It would be out of fashion within several years.

Is that a shock to you though? Disney hasn't been creative in the US in years. 0 original idea attractions, just shoehorning whats popular at that time.

I think Star Wars will have good staying power, for at least a decade probably two, same with Toy Story. Classic Hollywood will always be classic Hollywood. That's why the great movie ride works so well. I still like it to this day. I would love a Mickey ride, but geez Disney should just redo Star Wars Launch Bay completely, and just have a new show building for the ride. It could be a ride and museum.

SW, TS, and Marvel are all iconic in their own way which is why they are making lands dedicated to them. 10-20 years from now the characters from those movies will still be as popular as they are today. Using iconic IPs is fine in my book, if they are doing it the right way and not half-*ssing it.

I wouldn't worry about SW Launch Bay. It's pretty much meant to have a SW presence now before the land is built. When SW land opens, something else will likely be done with that space.

Not to sidetrack this thread but can you, or anyone elaborate as to why? Like why can it not go up or down ramps, or an esculator/elevator type device? Maybe I just don't understand how the ride system works?

Also, I can't check the site for a day and a half and boom whole place gets turned upside down lol. Was very sad at first to hear that GMR is going but the Mackey rides concept has softened the blow... optimistic to see what happens.
Obviously I don't know specifically the technology being used for this ride but in general it's not an issue having a trackless ride going up a ramp or down a ramp because that technology exists.

That's my problem, Avatar is already out of fashion. Star Wars and Toy Story do have staying power. Though, I question Marvel mainly because there are so many super hero movies (though, I am a little biased, I much prefer the latest DC movies to a lot of the Disney Marvel ones, I know, an unpopular opinion).

My guess is either the Mickey theme isn't locked down hence the 2nd chapter in the book being about another ip or (crosses fingers) a NEW ride not replacing an existing ride.
I'm getting vibes of the second one, though that may just be me being hopeful. Surely Disney isn't that ignorant to see how they need more capacity in that park, right?! :p

But that's why Avatar is in DAK-it's not there to celebrate it as a good movie, but rather it's message and the amazing natural landscape.

The three IP lands they have now, SW, TSL, and Muppets if you want to count their little area I think all have staying power, I don't see any of that being a problem.

Well, Avatar opens next year and Cameron has three more movies, so we'll see. You're right. Your DC opinion is unpopular. ;)
