Yes! Bring on the easy, normal-ingredient recipes! If it's more than like 6 ingredients, forget it. I hate cooking with a big flaming passion.

That said, we're definitely going to have to learn healthier habits around our house. The kids had their check-ups recently. Both are deficient in vitamins because nothing I do can convince them to take their stupid vitamins daily. :fork: The youngest is underweight while the oldest is on the top side of his healthy range. However, his sugar was borderline diabetic. He's been pouring over my 'Eat This Not That Book' today. I've been looking for some good stuff on the website kerby626 texted me last night, too. www.skinnytaste.com Found a recipe for Cajun Chicken Pasta I'd love to try. Maybe if Tracey is coming home for dinner tonight.

Change is in the air around these parts! Maybe we should start a secondary thread for posting healthy recipes?!

Put the incline up to 10, then we'll talk That's what I had to do on my interval training last night for the 10 miler. My calves are burning today!

Eeps! I bow down to you! No, I will NOT be putting the incline up to 10%, thank you very much

Yes, simple is good. I'll have to dig around for some.

Hmm...take your vitamin, put a quarter in a jar, and then the stuff in the jar can be used on your cruise? :veryconfu I got nothing. I've heard of both the book and the site you mention above and have been meaning to check them out, thanks for the reminder!

I had no choice  the two people I work out with are going through PT certification, so I'm their guinea pig for things... and the girl is training to run too, so everything we do is focused on endurance and distance.
Though, I probably looked funny holding on to the top of the treadmill!

Try getting them to eat superhero gummy vitamins? I have the princess ones for myself (or else I'd never take them! hahaha).

And I agree, let's do a healthy recipes thread! :)

I've got about 2 more lbs to go until I lose all of the vacation weight and am back on track where I want to be (yay!!!). I had a rough weekend due to my birthday but I got back on track on Sunday and am back into the training... when I stopped with my c25k a few weeks ago, I was on week 4 with the running (up to 6 minutes straight for those who don't know the program). I've been to the gym a few times since, like 2 or 3 times a week, and am usually on the treadmill while there trying to run between a 5.2 and 6.0 speed. I usually only last about 4-5 minutes straight.

So, Sunday when we went to the gym, I decided to set my treadmiill at a 4.1 pace (which is a 14:37 mile), and started to run... I ran 17 out of the 20 minutes I was on there, so needless to say I was excited.

Way to go (may I call you Kortni?)!! What counts most is that you got right back on track. :sohappy:

I really think that in order to succeed, you have to let yourself have a bit of indulgence for special occasions, then not beat yourself up about it and get right back on track--otherwise the whole process starts to feel like punishment.

So this morning I started training for a local half marathon that is in May and did my first-ever hill workout on the treadmill. I did 6 intervals with the incline between 4-5% and it was SO HARD. I definitely worked up a sweat! And yesterday I did my little strength training routine...my triceps are killing me today.

Yesterday we had veggie burgers for dinner (we like the Boca ones - I like the bruschetta flavor while Will likes the grilled vegetable). I had mine with lots of ketchup and no bun. :slurp: We had baked fries on the side...I found a brand that isn't TOO unhealthy. Of course, they're still french fries, so who am I kidding?

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Triceps burn is the best!! (just keep repeating it, you can convince yourself)

I've been lurking in the Running at WDW forum, and you guys are so inspiring! I actually checked out the RunDisney thread to see about a WDW 5K or something...I would love to run, but I think I'd need a buddy. I should probably contact the local road runners or something, don't many of them have programs to match up running partners?

Proud to report that I spent my weekend purging my closets--I'm in maintenance mode after losing 20 pounds! :sohappy:

Before & After, WDW Style:

This photo from our March 2009 stay at the Wilderness Lodge, made me realize that I'd put on weight and I'd have to do something about it:

This one is from our November 2011 Food & Wine Festival trip:

Woops, my thunder thighs seem to be missing!! :sohappy:

In this one (same Nov-11 trip), you can see that my sweetie also took off some extra weight--not through diet and exercise, but he re-entered the workforce (he was out of work in 2009, which led to some emotional eating)

838842628408.jpg

Oh, and you may notice that part of my regimen was skipping the hairdresser for two years!!! :ROFLOL:

Mentioned it before, and I know that some of the rest of you are using it as well, but to achieve my goal I used an app called Lose It, which also has a website if you don't have a smartphone. I highly recommend it, and I'm going to keep using it to maintain, because for me, logging my food makes me aware of what I'm putting in my mouth. Each meal/snack/"drinky-drink" (as Kelly calls 'em) is a conscious choice. And even if I do let myself go a little bit, I can see that and I can make an adjustment the following week.

I'm going to stick around here, though, because even if I reached my diet goal, my ultimate goal is to maintain my fitness, and you are all great fitness buddies!!

Gummi vitamins seems to be a good suggestion, they're even making gummi vitamins for adults nowadays, saw an advertisement the other day. I hated swallowing vitamin pills when I was a kid, it caused my mother lots of distress until she realized that maybe it was a good thing I couldn't pop pills! Shoot, that's really worrisome about Chandler's sugar, but if he's doing research, that's a good sign, he realizes the significance and doesn't want to go over that border to diabetes.

Recipes is a good idea! I love to cook...
Wow, I checked out that website, and they have some mouth-watering recipes on there, thanks for sharing that !!!

haha, yep you may! I go by both Courtney and Kortni, so either one is fine by me. :)

Jess (PartOfYourWorld) is my running-buddy-from-afar, we both decided to start on the c25k the same day and made our goals the 10miler so we could run it together (hopefully we'll actually meet before then lol).

yay, I LOVE loseit! :) So many people on there are really motivational (and they all call me Princess and ask me where my ballgown is. ). I second this!!

Maybe you looked funny holding the treadmill, but it would've looked funnier if you weren't holding it and fell off! :dazzle:

How's everyone else doing?

I'm still plugging away. Fighting extreme fatigue for the moment. Tracey says it's my body being shocked with the whole laser tattoo removal thing. Same thing happened in the days immediately following last month's round. I did get out and run yesterday. It was so humid & warm, I was sweating good by the time I got home. Can't sing the praises of the 'Ease into 5k' app enough. It challenges without over-working so I never dread doing it. I love the GPS thing so I can see where I went, my averages, etc.

Supposed to go to lunch with the in-laws at Buffalo Wild Wings today. Maybe I'll just send the boys. I don't need the temptation plus I should save any splurge for Saturday night. We're having Chandler's 16th birthday dinner at Shula's in Houston.

I'm still on-track with my food choices. That feels good. Gonna cook a recipe from the website I mentioned before for dinner tonight: Cajun chicken pasta.. :slurp:

I'm so proud, too! Yesterday I took Chandler to mow a friend-of-the-family's yard (that's how he earns $$) and a friend got home from work while we were still there. Corey offered me a beer, brought it outside with the top twisted off and everything, and I resisted! That's huge! I soooo loooooove beer!!!!

Question for you ladies...

My biggest trouble spot is my thighs. I was wondering if some of you knew of any really good exercises I can use to target them? I do squats and lunges as well as stride jumps and those do pretty well. But I'm game for something new and potentially different that might have been off my radar. :D

Other than that I think I'm still doing well with everything. I definitely have motivation now...I'm heading to Star Wars Celebration in Orlando this August! My husband cooked up the idea for my birthday (turning the big 3-0 this year ) and we might try to tack on some days at WDW as well. So I *definitely* want to be in good shape!

Keep up the great work everyone! :sohappy:

Have you tried plie squats like a ballerina?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiF0JIOmHUk

I don't necessarily do them with my heels raised up but these are pretty good to do. I know it's just a variation of a squat. I can hear the chicks on my aerobics dvds: "Only turn your toes out as far as your knees will go..." That means don't turn your toes all the way to the sides then start squatting. You want your toes pointed in the same line that your knees go out when you squat down.

Ah! Plie squates, I totally forgot about those! And that's pretty bad too because I use to dance. :hammer: If I remember correctly they are great for inner thighs which should work perfectly.

I started doing walking lunges along with everything else.. so that way it works your thighs even harder than regular lunges.

Jealous of your August trip... sounds AMAZING.

Plie squats are definitely a good idea, as Kelly suggested.

Try leg raises, as well--lying down, with top leg "foot on the floor" in front or behind, raise up the lower leg, bending the knee (or raising it straight-legged). This one is also really good at targeting the inner and outer thigh, and if you hold a weight on your leg while doing them, it'll kill you (in a good way!)

Example at 7:00-8:00 of this video:
http://youtube/Upi51Fj0pSM

(try not to die laughing at the early 90's pastel workout wear)
The footwear and leg warmers are pretty distracting! I have lots of FIRM videos, not this one, but it was the only one I could find that included the move I was trying to describe, although they're doing them a little bit too fast.

I'm of no help with this...that's a trouble spot for me too! :(

Walking lunges are the WORST...I think I associate them with punishment because if we were being obnoxious during swim team practice or something in high school our punishment would be to do walking lunges around the pool. You're totally right that they are harder than regular lunges!

Yeah, well... the people who had me doing them were the same ones who imposed that 10% incline on the treadmill...

Let's see, last night went to Zumba and burned 1000 calories. We had the instructor working her a__ off the whole time. Definitely feeling the burn from it all!

Hello all! Haven't checked in here for a little while, still plugging away here too! Happy to see lots of kick-butt reports. I am finally down 2 lbs again after putting a couple on with the start of some serious strength workouts. I am off the elliptical like everyone suggested, and more focused on more total body workouts.

As far as the leg/thigh/butt trouble zone, that's me too, the workouts I've been doing are noticibly trimming this area up. I am finding some great workouts to do at home Ondemand. I've gone from using 3lb dumb-bells to 8lbs! Feeling great! Keep it up everyone!!:sohappy:

I've read a few articles that suggest walking lunges, think I'll give them a try. I've got a long enough hallway in my apartment so it's definitely an option. :) And yes...if everything goes according to plan my August trip should be EPIC!

Wow 1000 calories? Go girl!
