Disney adding a 300ft tethered balloon to Downtown Disney

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
If this were City Walk or old town Kissimmee how many people would be on here screaming tacky??

I dont realy have a problem with it, its just more fair ground than Disney. Lets face it the reason its in Paris is its cheap and quick to impliment and theres not that much else on offer

I don't see what the big deal is. It is just a balloon that will give you great views of WDW. It isn't like we haven't had visual intrusions before.

I really don't see them implementing this at all.

I think the lawyers will stop them cold because of liability issues.

What issues? It doesn't have anymore liability issues than any other ride on property. You are in an enclosed carriage that is secured to a balloon which is tethered to the ground. Plus, I am sure you will have a wavier to sign, after you pay a nominal fee to go up. So, what are the issues?

Some child wiggling out of mommas grasp and plunging 300 feet to the concrete below.

An "enclosed carriage" perhaps could prevent this, but most hot air balloons do not have such.

And that's a good excuse?

Sorry to disagree with you, buddy but....ICK.:dazzle:

I said this the other day in the Pixar Angst thread and I think it applies here..
We all know that Disney is in this to make money. It's a buisness,if you want to go to WDW in 10 years, things can't stay all fan-boyish forever:)lookaroun who,me?)and the like...But doesn't it seem that Disney's trying a bit too hard lately?Sure, they have the synergy and the hard ticket events and all the gimicks but for some strange reason,it really does not seem like the Disney of yesteryear *tried* really hard to do this. The little bit of extra magic was just part of the experience and that made it all the better. The parks just seemed so much more inviting without every thing plastered all over the place to have try and bring in revenue.

I dunno...Perhaps if Disney stopped trying like mad to draw in a specific target market or a certain demographic...We would have a much more evened out Walt Disney World.

Make sense?:veryconfu

:

It looks like they are trying too hard...and that's not what Disney is supposed to do.

It is enclosed! It isn't an open air basket hanging under the balloon, rather an enclosed carriage. Children can't wiggle out of it and fall. If they could, it would have already happened in Paris. Instead, it has been a huge success there, breaking all the attendance expectation.

Are you saying that French are the litmus test for falling children? :lookaroun

Well, pretty much, yes you will!

Are you sure even if you're in the MK? It's farther away than SSE (you can't see that) , and with all of the tree cover in the area?

I don't think it will be that bad. It is more whimsical than an observation tower. Plus, there used to be hot air balloons floating around.

It's better than seeing biblical phrases being painted in the skys above Cinderella Castle!

True...Every single picture I took last year had Jesus in it.:dazzle:

Waste o' cash.

A third party offering an additional experience for an additional cost... get used to it in DTD.

My biggest question is why here (okay, I know why) but a view of.... I-4! Whoppee! The Sun Bank Building! Yippee! The Hotel Plaza! Oh wow!!!

It works in DLP due to the proximity to the main resorts and the parks. In WDW... well...

"Hey look! I think that blob is Spaceship Earth!"

"Whatdya mean closed all afternoon due to lightning within 80 miles?? You said that yesterday. And the day before. And the day before..."

"Where`s Pleasure Island? Oh...."

Exactly...Does Disney think about things anymore?

Martin brings up a great point with the weather concern. This thing will almost never be operating for a full day during the busy summer season.

Great point Martin.

It doesn't really bother me though. I'll never go up in the thing anyway.

But Disney will still charge the outside vendor for the space whether rain snow sleet or hail. Disney gets their money.

This is just unused space - all this air above DTD. They might as well rent it out too!
