Disney adding a 300ft tethered balloon to Downtown Disney

WWWD?

Lol...I dunno,it's just the size that concerns me.

300ft is a bit crazy compared to the nearby SSE...The unthemedness kills me!

The balloon itself is not 300ft. It goes UP 300ft.

That said... depending on the price, I'll probably do it. More people have died on Mission: Space than have died on Disney's hot air balloons.

Instead of comparing the potential safety of the new balloon to other balloons in the U.S., whose operators probably don't operate under the same safety guidelines that Disney does, why not compare it to the PanoraMagique in Paris? How many people have been injured on it? How many times over the course of its operation has it broken from its tethers or deflated? I'm guessing very few, if any. :)

Yes cause severe weathers a real issue round Paris. How often will this take to the skys over hurricane season?

Best compare it to Parasailing at Sammy Duwalls, the least hint of lightning is a show stopper, and thats a moving target.

Stopping the balloon from going up due to severe weather is another topic. People were talking about the possible safety issues during the ride itself (ie, 15 people being injured or a possible leak). Obviously, if Disney doesn't send the balloon up in severe weather, then that should make it pretty safe. N'est ce pas? :animwink:

Like everyone has mentioned they have one of these at Disneyland and it is brilliant, I think it is great but not to repleace all of the clubs.

Kinda an unfair comparison. But will the balloon actually be run by Disney or will this be a third party venture paying rent to Disney?

How is it unfair? Disney operates a tethered hot air balloon at DLP. Disney operates Mission: Space in WDW. Disney is going to operate a tethered hot air balloon in WDW. Sounds to me that that is completely fair. It's a Disney operated attraction within a Disney operated park. Pretty fair to compare the two if you ask me.

More people have died on Mission: Space. Shoot, more people have died on Peter Pan.

Considering Disney shuts down Splash Mountain when a storm is too close, I don't think we have to be too concerned about a balloon being sent up in the middle of a storm.
