Disney adding a 300ft tethered balloon to Downtown Disney

its tacky sounding and it doesn't sound like it was though all the way through

They thought about it when they built it in Paris. WDI don't want to waste time thinking about it again when the process of thinking has already been done previously. Any more thought on the subject would be a waste of thinking in WDI where all thoughts have to be blue skyed before been green lit, so since this has been blue skyed then green lit and then built before WDI will not give it any more thought and will just build it. WDI has decided not to have any thoughts if they know they have previously been thought as it save R&D time and money and therefore all new attractions will be clones of ideas previously thought or anything they can find in the archives that never was built. This will save creative mind power and thoughts and ensure that WDI won't need creative talent just some more managers to manage the managers who manage the other managers. Did you all follow? Good! :lookaroun

You know, with all the clubs in Pleasure Island closing it's not too big of a shock. But this honestly can be looked in a good light, making Downtown Disney slightly more friendly can't be a bad thing, right? :)

More friendly ? Why was there a lot of anti social behaviour caused by PI ?

Or do the proposed store staff have a warmer personality to allow them to part your cash from you?

Or maybe I was right about a Rhino, those girls are certainly friendly.

If this were City Walk or old town Kissimmee how many people would be on here screaming tacky??

The first thing I thought of was the tacky one in Niagara Falls USA - ugh!

I used to buy a ton of stuff in DTD since most of the stores sold unique merch. My family would set aside an entire morning or afternoon of our trip to "do" DTD. My last trip, I couldn't find a single thing to buy in WoD (same HSM and POTC junk found in all the parks), or anywhere except for Basin (okay, Basin is my favorite, but it's not a WDW shop, or else instead of my wonderful almond soap it would have Zac Efron's face on it ).

Between the lack of unique merch and now the addition of tacky tourist-trap "attractions," I can see myself avoiding DTD instead of scheduling time to go there.

Yes, someone posted some images earlier in the thread. And now that you've asked, more have posted images they have. Not bad looking overall, IMO, but not sure how it'll look at DTD. We'll just have to wait and see. Just because it's being reported now, doesn't mean they can't change their minds.

blimey dont knock it till youve seen it!
its not to replace PI, its an addition to dtd.Ive been on the paris one and it was fantastic.your in a safe enclosed basket, tethered on lots of ropes, so your not going to drift off or fall out, the views were spectacular, thought im not sure what your going to see at dtd, the paris one is very near the 'magic kingdom 'park and your can see the park, not sure if youll be able to at dtd one.
dont confuse the issue of closing pi with adding to dtd.once you'll see it you will want to go on it.
Whos says tacky...this is disney for gods sake! its what disney does best! and i love em for it!

Well you cant be knocked for your loyalty thats for sure.

But As I said before, what view will you see from the balloon that cant be seen from the Contemporarys observation deck? And besides an overview of the MK I cant say I was that moved by tree tops and carbuncle hotels as far as the eye could see.

I guarantee if this were being installed at City Walks there would be plenty of posts saying it was a crap tacky idea. Its not the end of the word, but lets not dress it up as a creative step forward either.
