Disney adding a 300ft tethered balloon to Downtown Disney

Fantastic idea! Can't wait to experience this! People who don't like it can always go to Citywalk, they have no giant balloons but they do have an airplane displayed (it does not fly though)

So much for keeping guests on property! Everyone will be heading to City Walk! Universal is probably doing a happy dance! Bad move on Disney's part.

Everyone? Is this "everyone" as in all WDW guests or a very small percentage of them?

I was never in the AC or the CW, but if Disney wanted to exclude them from the chopping block and just blow up the music/dance clubs it could easily make the exception. It is clear that a cult like following was not going to save the AC or any of the other clubs.

"....the Sentinel article also revealed that a 300ft tethered balloon is to be installed at Downtown Disney..."

Being tethered is good.
Having guests float away on an uncertain journey through the clouds could cause problems.

IMHO

I think the balloon is a very creative idea. I would rather see that than a 300ft sky tower sticking out of the ground...

From the way it looks, it will be over the water.

I too think it is an interesting idea. It would look pretty from the Boardwalk and other hotels in the area. And remember that 300 feet isn't that far up, so it's not like you will be able to see it everywhere on WDW property.

You guys have to remember that this isn't the replacement for the lost clubs, this is just an addition to Downtown Disney just like T-Rex is going to be.

Pleasure Island has been dying a slow death. We knew something would have to happen soon!

Well, pretty much, yes you will!

I wonder what the insurers have to say about this? I'm pretty sure that's why the balloon rides for HCOE never came to fruition.

With DW as flat as it is, 300 ft. is a lot. I would think that if you were looking for it you would be able to spot it. The views from the balloon should be spectacular.

Imagine a 30 story building on property.

This balloon will be the same height.

That is what I mean. The tallest things we have now are about 200'. The only differernce is the mass. A tethered balloon just doesn't have the visual mass a 30 story tower would have.

I am pretty sure some of the hotels in that area are 300 feet tall, so I don't think it will be visible from any of the parks but it really is not a big deal if it was visible. It's a balloon after all.

At least they did not go with the flying restaurant....:lookaroun........:zipit:
