Concepts for DCA coming to WDW?

Well, we already had Ariel's Grotto in the middle of California. It was located at the base of a giant Swiss mountain bobsled ride, within view of a pink Bavarian castle, just to the left of a spinning rocket ride. Naturally. Where else would you put Ariel's Grotto?! :ROFLOL:

Disney parks are funny things, especially the older ones. And Disneyland USA has some of the most bizarre thematic setups of any Disney environment. Yet, because it was plotted out and approved by Walt tromping around the latest addition in a hardhat from 1954-66, a lot of this bizarre stuff gets a complete pass from the Disney fan community.

But if Disneyland circa 1965, at the height of its Walt-led success and in the middle of a golden age, were to drop from the sky today and open as a Disney theme park most of us (myself probably included) would scream bloody murder over the chintzy themed elements, the placement of attractions and facilities, and the overall operation of the park.

Using the basic look of Disneyland's original Ariel's Grotto, that is now becoming Pixie Hollow, I would think The Little Mermaid E Ticket would look fabulous in WDW's Magic Kingdom where the old 20K ride used to be. I've been to Tokyo DisneySea, and their indoor Little Mermaid land was awesome inside and out!

But I don't think that type of look would go over as well in WDW's Fantasyland as the more muted colors of Disneyland's Ariels' Grotto rocky look. But then what do I know? Perhaps a Tokyo DisneySea type facade would work well in WDW's Fantasyland to hide the massive Little Mermaid ride show building.

This is why I think they need to add a "street" that runs from behind the new DVC kiosk over to Toontown with the entrance of the new LM attraction facing north and the back of the attraction facing the castle. Then any LM theming would not clash with the rest of FL. It could be a mini-land with many of the same attractions from ML at TDS. Just a thought.

Get rid of the kiosk first. ;)

I think the TDS facade would be PERFECT, especially with a small lagoon in front. But we only need an enhanced version of the DCA Mermaid ride.

I'd also like to see Toontown Fair expanded to become a real land.

The Little Mermaid theme does not fit in with the "California" theme of DCA. I stand by that.
I said earlier that everything needs to tie in to the core "theme" of the park or it'll stick out like a sore thumb. I was unaware of the aquarium aspect of it...and now that I know that...at least it's TRYING to tie the theme together. It's not just Ariel's Grotto in the middle of California.

I'm still a bit confused. I understand how an aquarium would fit in with the theme of DCA, but how do you make the story of TLM fit into a seaside aquarium? Will it be an aquarium ride gone wrong? Or will Ariel come and take you into the sea? How exactly will you go from inside a seaside aquarium to the bottom of the ocean floor with talking fish, mermaids, etc.?? And I'm not being sarcastic or anything, I'm actually curious as to how these will be resolved, if in fact, the aquarium theming is correct. Has there been any leaks as to the show story??

The theme of any aquarium is to show you the wonders of the sea that you don't get to see on an every day basis. Maybe this is playing on the "Look at all the wonders that are under the sea." Maybe the aquarium is just a "mode of transportation" to get you into Ariel's World.

(Hehe, Maybe Ariel made a deal to stay in the aquarium to be "a part of our world.")

No, there hasn't been any leaks on the show story itself. There have been leaks from unofficial and official sources alike that detail the general concept; a rather long Omnimover ride through a half dozen musical production numbers from the film, with a few smaller scenes inbetween the big numbers, mostly done in an underwater setting with animatronics and special effects.

But other than that, there's been no explanation of the exact plot. The new DCA Preview Center - Blue Sky Cellar - didn't have much about the Mermaid ride yet. But WDI has announced that the preview center will be updated every 6 to 9 months as the DCA makeover progresses. In the next update to the center when they remove the current Midway Mania and Paradise Pier displays, there will likely be displays dedicated to the Mermaid ride that will offer more information. http://www.mouseinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87838

Or, we can just wait for an Al Lutz update on Miceage to spill the beans on the plot.

Appreciate the info. Did a search and couldn't find much, but figured I'd ask anyway. Thanks!

I had read that it would feature every song from the movie in some capacity.

Yes, in some of the interviews with the press John Lasseter and Bob Weis have said that every song from the movie will be represented. It's a musical ride like Small World where the figures are always singing.

In pictures of the model at WDI, you can see the scene for the Under The Sea musical number. It looks to be about the size of the Graveyard scene in the Haunted Mansion with the Omnimover doing a lazy horseshoe shaped track through that room. It looks BIG.

Here's a link to a picture where you can see the model for the Under The Sea number part of the ride. http://micechat.com/forums/members/...rd-sherman-lilly-belle-so-much-more-html.html

So THAT'S what that was  Thanks for clarifying.

I think 100% singing would be a little overkill. I hope that it's not all singing all the time and that they do add some dialogue with music in the background or something.

However, I think it's going to be a great attraction, and I like the idea of housing it in an "aquarium." It's clever.

There are good parts of CA, but they can fix the dead parts. They added TSM - right next to the carousel beside Calif Screaming. All they took out was a lame taco stand. They need to get rid of more arcade stuff. They are renaming that ferris wheel and taking out the MaliBoomer (high parachute drop). Renaming Mulholland Adventure (tiny roller coaster with sharp turns) and that Orange that has chairs hanging from long chains and turns is also only a rename. But the area by the theater with Whoopi Goldberg is dead, fake storefronts. Needs some major ideas. And the Whoopi show needs to go, too. There is also a dead part at the end of Hollywood Blvd, back by the stunt show that only shows about 4/day. The Radiator Springs concepts sounds great- looking forward to the changes!:sohappy:

Golden Dreams (the Whoopi show) is already gone. It won`t be open again to the general public.

Mulholland Madness is being rethemed - more than just a rename.

We have heard that LM may be coming to WDW but is that the only concept?

After looking at the concept art from the Blue Sky exhibit at DCA I have to say it appears the "Magic" is back in Glendale. The detail is amazing. I am impressed with all of it but especially the conversion of the Mailboomer to a parachute drop. It is so great looking with the iron work and "ballpark green" color scheme. Kudos to the Imagineers that designed it. A clone would sure look great at DTD or the Boardwalk.

Are there any rumors about some of these additions making their way to WDW besides LM?

Oh PURRRLEEEEASE not! We already have some cheap, amusementpark style rides in Dinoland USA and really don't need more of the undisneyish crap in Florida after it already backfired in California. What is Disney about a parachute drop? Or a simple plain rollercoaster without any real theming?
If they want to bring more stuff from California to WDW bring Grizzly Peak. Or Indiana Jones Adventure. But not this boring rubbish.

I agree about Dino-land, personally I can't wait to see it removed someday. But I would never say that about a Boardwalk themed concept that brings back nostalgic versions of rides that are built with quality standards and the magic of Disney imagination. California Screamin is a beautiful coaster and very popular. I would love to see a parachute drop that is equally well themed added to DTD to go along with the new hot air balloon ride and possibly a ferris wheel. I especially like the parachute drop concept because it looks really well conceived and it reminds me of D-Day................................ohhhhhhhh, now I see the problem :ROFLOL:

I think it's very likely that DHS could see some of the things that are being done to DCA. Especially the fact that it looks so much like DHS... I think Cars Land would be a great addition to the Pixar area of DHS. Here's a couple pics from disneygeeks:

There is an interesting update on Screamscape today about new updates for Tomorrowlands across the Disney park family (http://www.screamscape.com/html/tokyo_disney_.htm)

Some of the information is pretty interesting (some not so much)

It's about halfway down (where it says '2010-2012', or something like that...)

To quote from the closing of the update:

For everyone feeling left out in the USA, don’t feel bad yet as many of these same concepts are also being looked at for the next version of Tomorrowland in California as well as attractions for the other parks around the world. So for now think of Tokyo as your crystal ball to the future.

The parachute ride WILL NOT be built.
