Carts of Ice - Do or Don't

Just wondering if anyone out there takes a handful of ice from those carts and puts them into their drinks????

Personally I don't but I have seen some people (usually of some sort of tour group that I will not point out) do this. I find this to be gross and it makes me gag at the sight of this.

At one time WDW had signs out telling people not to do this. Obvious health risks of contaminated ice from other people putting their hands in it, and no sanitary conditions of the ice containers themselves. The ice is not intended to be eaten. It's very strange that people do it, but I guess really they just dont think about what they are doing!

I won't do it either, nor have I ever seen it happen. Common sense, I guess.

But I use it to wash my hands every now and then, or when it's super hot outside.

Not old, just vintage.
Ew. Yuck. No.

So many people probably stick their hands in there at some point or another. The last thing I would do is put that ice in something I would drink. If I have an overwhelming desire for ice I will go into a quick service restaurant and ask for a cup of ice.

Working in the health field, I can say, absoltuely, NO WAY would I do that. Besides the obviouse of other hands, there is the machine that produces the ice. Many times these machines have mold growth on the inside of the machine as well as other items that may be in the ice. So, I would never eat that ice.:hurl:

It doesn't gross me out because that ice isn't meant to be eaten, it's meant to keep the bottles cold. The ice that goes into cups and bottle can't be reached by park guests. So where is the grossness? If you reach in and grab ice from a cart, then get sick, it's your own fault.

Having said that I have been known on occasion, on really hot days, to grab a single ice cube and throw it into my mouth. So far there have been no ill effects. ::twitch twitch:::lol:

Sick...
But someone should test it. Anyone remember going to the water fountain at school with a q-tip and putting it in a Petri dish and watching the fungus grow??
Science project. Ready! Go!

That ice is to keep the bottles cold? I thought it was to put down the backs of unsuspecting victims.

That's the only reason I touch it hehe.

I may be one of the few people around here who remembers a summertime treat of begging a chunk of ice from the milkman from the back of his truck. :lookaroun

I'm sure it was clean.
