Well, after all, it's so much less risky than developing your OWN content. God I can't stand Iger. He is the absolute flip side to Walt. The dark side of the moon. An anti-creative. He's not so much a mogul as a merchandiser. I can't wait for him to leave!

Wait, so if you're a CEO and you can by a property for "X" and it can generate you "XXXX" is it not your responsibility to make your company money?

The guy isn't going out and buying Vivid Entertainment for heaven's sakes!

He's bought Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel. Three of the hottest brands around, brands that appeal to TWDCo's target audience, and (in the case of Pixar and Lucas) have had a strong connection to Disney for years anyway.

I applaud him for his acquisitions. I only wish he would concentrate on getting those IPs and the IPs that he already owns into the parks. That falls more on Staggs though, IMO.

In your world, Disney would have never created Touchstone or bet on Pixar. Unfortuantely, that company never would have made it out of the 80s without going bankrupt or being swallowed up by someone else.

"But the real substance of the Star Wars Land project, the new rides and shows, are all backfilled into phase two of this Tomorrowland project. And phase two is all still on temporary hold for Disneyland, and appear to be simply cancelled for Disney’s Hollywood Studios out at WDW."
Why???????????????????????

That's a statement, not a question.

When Avatar Land opens, and then Star Wars Land follows, everyone will be happy...well, for a day. Then they will immediately demand more.
Then we better get our complaints in now.

At Disney's current pace, we'll probably only have another 5 years to complain.

Of course, those of us old enough to remember the 1980s and 1990s remember when it was less than a decade between entire theme parks. :banghead:

I honestly don't think it is an industry wide cyclical model. More like imaginative business people who like to keep a steady stream of income will invest in the "new hotness" to get people into the parks ... then when they are leaving say to themselves, "I'm staying on property next year". When Uni has the 10,000-15,000 rooms - will they still invest? Yes, of course they will just on not as quick a pace. Still quicker than it will take Disney to finish Disney Springs though.

The cyclical model can only be applied to WDW, and it was the goons at TDO that caused this problem with a little mad cap mayhem from WDI.

Ugh, the purist attitude. I don't want to see something like Tomorrowland turn into "SW land" or "Stark's Expo" – it's too great as an original creation. But I see absolutely no problem with an Indy ride in Adventureland or SW at DHS. Actually, I would welcome any outside property to DHS. It fits there IMO.

My biggest argument would simply be that Dis has too many of its own properties (Pixar especially) that it isn't doing enough with. Spending $500 mil on Avatar, when Pixar Place only has one attraction, is laughable IMO.

I also have resigned myself to non-Disney-created/adapted stuff appearing in DHS, which is supposed to be (I guess) a tribute to Hollywood in general, not just Disney. But you make a good point - there are too many Disney-created elements that are nowhere to be found in the Parks. The Lion King and the Jungle Book should have major attractions in AK, INSTEAD of that idiotic Avatar. And I'll say it again...where oh WHERE is the Mary Poppins attraction?

I don't think Disney has the rights to do that.

You should report them to the internet moderators immediately!
Do not pass GO..do not collect $200.00
Don't let them get away with their propaganda.

It's an absolute outrage that they say anything that you disagree with.

Speaking of DRAMA!
You want Drama? Go to the Butterbeer Cart at Universal at closing time and see how people act after they can't get in line to buy Butterbeer. It sure isn't pretty.

Why do people leave their brains at home while on vacation?

I've yet to understand why perfectly educated and intelligent people act like total morons at a theme park.

Please tell me we are not depending on that source for our facts.

WDWMagic is the only reliable source for Disney on the net.

Fact.

There's some truth to that, but it isn't because the people on this board are malcontents, as your post would imply.

Most local theme parks around the country get a new attraction every year and most get a major addition every five years. The WDW parks are woefully behind on that schedule and TDO has believed for too many years in the "one resort" philosophy (meaning one new attraction feeds all 4 parks, not just the one). This philosophy has made the parks incredibly stale to the point that even a major addition or two isn't enough to compensate for 20+ years of neglect.

Here's a list of what, IMO, is needed for WDW to be up-to-date (and what it would take to get the fanbase truly happy):
• Hollywood Studios is in desperate need of more attractions. They currently have a "land" dedicated to Pixar with one attraction (that usually has a 60+ minute wait). A Monsters Inc ride, an upgrade of HISTK playground to A Bugs Life and (would be nice, but not holding my breath) an Incredibles ride would go a long way to making that park (along with Star Wars) finally a full day park. Star Wars would be amazing, but more is needed to truly round-out that park.

• EPCOT: FutureWorld is plagued by outdated and closed attractions. The list is too long for needs for FutureWorld so I won't do a full list. An upgraded Imagination, EO replacement, and Ellen's Energy replacement would be the first places to start (and would probably placate most hard core fans for awhile).

• EPCOT: World Showcase hasn't had a new country added in 25 years. It's time (especially since many of the countries lack rides or major attractions). Adding a new country (or two) is desperately needed. Upgrading many of the key attractions in the existing countries is desperately needed as well, since many haven't been updated in years.

• MK: with the addition of the FLE, MK is the one of the least of the parks needing anything but Tomorrowland has grown incredibly stale and is showing it's age. A new attraction in TL (bye-bye Stitch please!) would go a long way. A new glass roof for Teacups would be nice, too!

• AK: Avatar and the new nighttime show should give this park what it needs for a while.

The FACT is, no one knows what the real truth is. Just like Avatar, I'm not believing anything about SW (good or bad) until an official announcement has been made.

i'll just stay here blissfully ignorant, hoping that someday Disney will build me the SW land of my dreams.

Good list. Just returned from WDW and the staleness of both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios was readily apparent. I personally enjoy AK and the Avatar/nighttime elements will go a long way. But the other 2 parks need a lot of work and EPCOT to me seems like the harder fix. Just a lot of dead space in Future World.
