AVATAR land - the specifics

I'm aware of the technical differences... I just don't think (IMO) it delivers a significant jump vs prior elements. Especially when the projection face figures can provide such incredible accuracy. Obviously the projection faces vs physical depend on the setting to say if one is viable or not.. but I'm not blown away here. I mean the Dave Jones figure in Shanghi pirates.. I was like w0ah.. this I'm like.. hrmph.
you re comparing a head shot of a 12 second clip to seeing an entire AA in ride POV not exactly the same

but you re talking about a wow factor when you havent seen it in show

Because I'm talking about the face of one.. vs the face of another. Maybe later it will wow me.. but this demo has not made me jump out of my seat like some others.. hence the point of the comment. I don't know why you think I can't handle the knowledge of only seeing part of the story right now. I'm a big boy... a positive impression is bound by the same 'you have only seen part of it' scope a negative or neutral impression is.

The cutoff point between the projection face and the "real" part of the animatronics is really obvious to me. Real faces will always trump them.
This... the pulling off of the thin arms and hands of the Frozen figures.. plus their on character movement was the wow part for me.
However impressive the Elsa animatronic is there's something off about how rigidly stiff her body is. It's like she has a pole up her back.

Whilst I would welcome many more, I think that DAK is actually currently a 2 - 3 day park, IF you want to do every show, see all the animals, spend time wondering around, and riding the current attractions a few times (e.g. EE and Dinosaur - I could ride them all day!).

It does depend if you like the 'animal' side of it....I have stood watching the bats, hippo, tigers and gorillas for a long time! I find them fascinating.

I would however like 3 rides at Pandora...maybe they will add another when they can?
I love animals and zoos...and CAN make DAK a full day visit (9-5) by spending a good amount of time on the trails and visiting Planet Watch...as well as ride everything(sometimes multiple times)and see the shows. Still, as a Disney theme park I expect more for what I'm paying.
Every other Disney park(except for DHS) has more to see and do.

The role-playing between Joe, James, and Jon is neat for some people, I suppose, but I wouldn't have been able to stand it for an emtire hour. That's just painful! It because it blankets everything in an unneccesary fakeness.

Though Jon Landau dying his facial hair for the ACE guy role... okay, that I find funny. He does play the role well.

But overall, it seems like this presentation was largely geared toward getting fans to embrace a Pandora land in DAK. Toward getting them to understand and become interested in the fictional moon and its backstory. In that regard, I can see why they chose to do the role-playing thing, though I still find it annoying.

I much prefer the style of the previous big presentation, where Joe and Jon presented as the people they actually are. They can then talk normally about the land itself and their feelings, excitement, and struggles in creating it. It avoids that uneccesary blanket of fakeness.

Here's a video from the 2015 main D23 expo that makes me cringe (starts about 20 seconds in):

I hate to sound negative. Overall, I'm glad all three of them were able to make it. Cameron especially, because this may the longest he's worked in a single day since 2010.

That's because I don't think it's as similar to Soarin as people think it is. Soarin 2.0 this will not be.
Hi @DisneyRoy! I totally agree with you! People keep saying this is Soarin 2 but I just don't see it. And, that's a good thing. I think. LOL.

I'm with you on this, I'm thinking Soarin 2 with maybe a dragon head in front of you? I'm not real excited at least for the thought that this is an individuals ride. It is a group ride, large group. I could be wrong but>>>>>>>
Hi @Corey P! I totally agree. It should be a group ride experience.

Well that was completely underwhelming.
Maybe, Disney needs to be more like Universal and stop releasing concept art and making announcements so early. Like, don't say anything at all until the attraction or ride is about to open.

Wow, this is so gorgeous. I'm totally impressed that Avatarland will be open next Spring. I'm caught off guard by it. There were so many people who planned on skipping 2017, because they didn't expect Avatarland to be opened. Next summer is going to be amazing at AK!!!

This looks so awesome. Obviously, it's a restaurant but I wonder if the bowls are for decoration or something else.

The decor of the restaurant and this area blend into Animal Kingdom's landscape seamlessly. It's beautiful. I can't wait for this to open.

Casting Jon Landau is about as awkward as having Phil Holmes in a portrait at MK. I just hope we won''t catch sight of him in the land itself.

Oh, just you wait for that Flight of Passage preshow video... he'll blow Patrick Warburton out of the water!

In all seriousness, I never thought about that until now. But with the amount they seem to be pushing his role and his character, and the fact that his character is, I believe, the head of ACE... I would not be in the least bit surprised if he does indeed make an appearance somewhere.

I agree, at a fan gathering, the emphasis should be on the building and the details. Story should be woven into that. If you're interested in Pandora right now, you are interested in the progress, the how, more than you are the other stuff. The land itself will weave the story.

And as for Cameron, I think he's a driven person who works tirelessly and constantly. That whole "going to the bottom of the ocean" thing, remember? He is not just a filmmaker, he's an adventurer, explorer, and inventor. Pretty sure that he hasn't taken a day off in his life. Don't forget that all the 3D cinema we see today--and things like Jungle Book--are the beneficiaries of his obsessions.

So I'm trying to make sense of the new details on flight of passage. If we are flying on banshees via the avatar program then what would be the point of climbing the mountain (queue)? If you've seen the movie you'll know that Jakes human form isn't physically in the pandoran environment he is in a stasis pod. Unless the ACE team built a laboratory at the top of the mountain I don't see how this would make sense within the story. I'm not bashing it I'm just trying to make sense of this.

I thought it would never open! Now we just have to wait a few more months. Finally!!

Summer ends astronomically on Sept 21. So, the "few months" you're waiting might be actually 10 months. Just wanna make sure you're managing expectations. :D
