Any un-magical moments happen to you?

so, we all know that disney is known to be the most magical, but did anything happen on your trip that made it a living hell?

i have a memory that will last with me forever. first time i was ever there, our plane was delayed, and we were connecting in atlanta. when we landed in atlanta, we had 5 minutes to get to our other gate, which was on the other side of the airport, of course. and we had my 85-year-old grandmother with us, so she didn't move it very fast..we left minnesota in 30 degree weather, and entered orlando with 90 degree weather. we had long sleeved shirts and long pants on, and our luggage missed the plane, so we had nothing. i hadn't eaten anything all morning, and we were looking for hours for our luggage, we got to the hotel and i got really sick. thankfully, we had my aunt and two cousins with us who came from pennsylvania and did NOT have missing luggage, and i wore my cousin's clothes for the remainder of the day.

but, i do remember the first moment i walked into magic kingdom, i was throwing up in my mom's hands because i hadn't eaten at all. it was around 3:00, and our plane left around 6 in the morning. didn't have breakfast, lunch, anything.

we came prepared the next 3 times we went! haha. we made sure we ate breakfast, had shorts and a t-shirt on when we left minnesota, etc.

so, your turn!

1st flight got delayed, 2nd flight was ready to leave but we had to go through customs. the customs officer made a HUGE show of examining every passport 4 or five times looking each one of us up and down then back to the passport then up and down again. (there were 8 of us so it took a while)

When our rep from West jet (our saviour!) who was escorting us said to the customs officer that he was actually holding the flight for us the customs officer said it wasn't his problem and it takes as long as it takes.

We ran, my mother fell, had to get a wheelchair, I ran with the wheelchair and my mother piled to her eyeballs with carry ons then we got to the plane and one of the kids puked all over the floor at the boarding gate

Then they wouldn't let him on the flight because it might be a virus so 5 of our group got on the plane and 3 of us stayed behind to make sure he didn't puke again

Once they realized he wasn't going to puke again they let us on the next flight (4 hours later) we got to Disney, our luggage didn't, filed a report with the airlines for lost luggage, contacted our insurance company missed the whole 1st day in the parks

We did get our luggage later and after that...smooth sailing

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Something tells me that a good number of these "un-magical moments" are going to revolve around airlines...

my mom broke her ankle

My parents were staying at POR and weren't even there for 1/2 day when my mom tripped over uneven side walk that was broken up and broke her ankle in three different places. She was in a lot of pain and it took a long time for the ambulance to find her. She had to have surgery the next day. When she was released two days later she got back to POR to find there were no wheel chairs available even though my Dad had already to talked to them and told it would not be a problem. They were traveling with friends and didn't want to cancel the rest of the trip so they decided to go on the rest of their trip on the cruise. My mom was in so much pain and the meds made her not want to eat and feel sick. The water was extremely rough which didn't help her or my Dad who always gets sea sick. I felt so bad for them! Talk about crappy vacations!
They were suppose to celebrating their semi-retirement.

Several things

During my last trip, at 8 days my longest WDW-trip so far, several things happened.

-When I wanted to drive back to our hotel (Coronado Springs) from typhoon lagoon by bus I and about 12 other guests had to wait, no joke, about 70 minutes for the bus! Several complains to the passing bus drivers were fruitless. Finally at least we were all granted a free Typhoon Lagoon day ticket in compensation

-when we arrived at our first hotel (Wilderness Lodge) when we went to MK our key card was not accepted at the MK turnstile which took about 15 minutes to settle. We were granted a complimentary dinner in compensation.

-when we did a shopping tour to Downtown Disney my girlfriends purchase was forgotten to be delivered to our hotel in time and as she had bought some clothing she needed dearly on the same day and the entire purchase was already locked into some kind of storage facitiliy, the hotel reception CMs purchased exactly the same articles again and delivered them to our hotel. We got another complimentary breakfast in compensation.

So ist was not exactly perfect but the Disney CMs did everything to save the day.

On our last visit all of our Group (Me, my husand, our 2 kids, my Mum & Dad and my brother) all had a 24 hour upset stomache virus. Unfortunately we did not all get the same 24 hours, so just as one person was feeling better another was getting ill!!!! We were all there to celebrate my Dad's 60th birthday, but there were only a couple of days that we all spent together! I had a lot of surprises arranged, and luckily most of them worked out, but sadly our main memory of the holiday was that we were all ill!!!!!

On a trip many years ago, (my daughter who was then 9) was very ill at 12:00 in the morning (had to call room service and change ALL bedding)..not too bad until we ate at an off-site Restaurant the next day and on our way to ride RCRC, I decided I didn't feel well and we had to go back to room....yup, VIOLENTLY ill all night...kids and hubby went to DD that night and then the next day I got stuck staying in a hotel room (still sick and weak from a horrible night) while they went to Blizzard Beach. I couldn't stand it anymore and went down to the pool (because it stinks being sick in Disney..and missing all the fun...) I sat next to the Cabana and the attendant took care of me the rest of the day finding me shady spots next to her, giving me cold towels and ginger-ale and crackers.

Two months ago, while staying at the CBR, we got in at 11:00 at night and upon check in...I was told...ya, we're going to have to move you tomorrow morning so don't unpack because we have a large group coming in....I was not happy and said to them.."well, THIS is not a "magical moment"... They could see that I was not happy (mind you, I was not rude or angry...just not "happy"). After several discussions, in a back room, they moved us to a preferred room for the remainder of our stay and gave us 50% off the first night...so we did ok after that...BUT, they totally screwed up not doing anything for my DD Sweet 16 birthday for which we were celebrating - that was disappointing even though I called them 1 week prior and had to remind them at check-in... BUT these are mild compared to things that COULD go wrong I'm sure....

We've only had a couple of things happen, neither of which was Disney's fault.

When we went for our honeymoon, we got to the airport at 6am and waited...and waited...and waited. Eventually, at about 6pm, they told us that our flight had been cancelled and we were all being transferred to the same flight the next day. So that was another 4am start for us!

Then, when we were there last September, we had an amazing first week and were really looking forward to go to the MNSSHP (our first time) when I got a sinus infection. I had major ear ache, toothache and headache and even though I dosed myself up on pills, I couldn't do any rides and couldn't eat or drink anything cold (in fact eating at all was a luxury!) and I could only wander around aimlessly for an hour or so before it all started throbbing again!

That was not a good week!

Wow - sounds like Disney really went way above and beyond - I've never heard of anyone being compensated for a mere 15 minute delay or any guarantee of same day room delivery, much less compensation if it didn't happen...you must have encountered some really over-zealous CMs :)

Perhaps we (my girlfriend and I) have such sympathetic vibrations.:D
But all of the waiting guests at Typhoon Lagoon (about 15) got the complimentary TL-ticket and most of them waited for more than 70 minutes. I wouldn't call this a 15 minute delay.

They were referring to your 15 minute delay at the gate not TL.

Last year we waited for a bus for 2 hours at the polynesian to go to DTD. Tried to explain to every bus that stopped but they said traffic was probably the cause. After it got ridiculous I called the number on the back of the key card and they told me it sounded like an exageration. Well, I let the toher 30 people waiting there that we were exagerating and next thing you know, there are about 20 cell phones out and calling transportation. The bus showed up 10 minutes later. Looking back 2 hours is a VERY long time to wait but it was one of those things where you see a bus coming and you're like "THAT's gotta be it, here we go everyone...and it's not." Repeat that 50 times.

My worst trip was forgoing sunblock at Typhoon Lagoon to get an awesome tan. I blistered so badly that a trickle of cool water was excruciating pain and I was layed up for 2 days not able to move in the slightest.

Ok, Here goes.....

Nov 2007, My Girlfriend and I arrive at all-star movies around 1am for a 10 day trip with our friends that are arriving the next day(afternoon). We go to epcot for the morning and enjoy the food and wine festival for a little bit before heading back to the resort to meet up with our friends. On our way back to our room we figured that we would stop by the front desk to find out what room our friends were staying in and if we could move our room closer. No problem....done. So we go back to the room clean up whatever and pack anything we might have taken out. We were told that someone will be by to pick up our luggage to move it to our new room. Im thinking, Geez, i have a bad feeling about this lets just move it ourselves. She was like no, our friends are waiting for us, lets go. OOOOOOkkkkkkkkk i said. So we go to a park (Cant remeber which one) enjoy the time, and head back to the resort. We get back to our room to check our luggage to find that my girlfriends wallet was stolen from her backpack. she had like 400.00 dollars cash, and ID, And ATM card. GREAT!!! So we call the everybody that works for disney, and basically all they could do for us was give her a $50.00 charge card and say that they arent responsible for stolen item. Im going what, your concierge steals stuff from our bags and all you can do is give us $50.00 and say your not responsible. I was very dissapointed in Disney at that moment.........

I also got a fever midway through this trip, so a whole day was wasted, pounding Nyquil and sleeping......

Oiy Vey......But needless to say....Never, and i mean never will i stay at a value resort AGAIN! The concierge employee looked like they belong in a fast food joint.....

I still love Disney World though:)

My most un-magical moment had to be September 2000 when we were on our honeymoon. We checked into the Dolphin and shortly thereafter I told DH that I just didn't feel right. Within an hour or so I had a full blown, knock you on your butt, sinus infection head ache/ear ache. I get them often but this one was by far the worst I had ever experienced. We called our family doctor who phoned in 3 prescriptions (antibiotic, decongestant and allergy medications) at a local pharmacy. The resort was nice enough to find a delivery service and get the medications to me within a few hours.

Our friends were meeting us 2 days later and my DH eneded up spending most of our honeymoon with them as this thing had me down for nearly 5 days! Yuk!

If you asked DH, he'd say that our most un-magical moment is always the line at Alamo . (We started to rent cars after the honeymoon incident) He likes to have his own car and the line is always insane at the Alamo counter. It's taken hours at times to get through it. I finally have him checking in on line before we leave so there is no more waiting in line. :D

That is just terrible. All the money the company gets, and all they gave you was a lowsy $50.00 card???? I'm sorry but their employees touched and moved your bags...they should be responsible for it, since we, as guests, trust these people with our bags when staying in Disney. I would have been absolutely sick to my stomach if that were me. I don't care for the values either. We do like Pop Century though...ever since it opened we won't stay at the All Stars.

It's one of those situations where you should of gone with your gut feeling, but didn't...
