American Idol: Season 7!!

Oooo I wondered that too!

And....did anyone else notice when Carly finished singing she said something like "I remembered all the words!"? Or was I hearing things?

She messed up last night. It was very minor, but I caught it.

I'm really not surprised to see her go because as I said before I think she appeals to an older audience which doesn't vote as heavily as the younger fans.

And- I knew not to believe Paula (though he did perform, it was with the rest of the cast- not solo). That's not the first time she's said something wrong on the radio

votefortheworst.com is only helping AI rather than ruining it. By keeping on bad contestants, and helping good ones go early, they're only making the show more dramatic and less predictable. Bottom line is, they suck.
Me likes their take on Brooke.

Just wait for it -- there's an implosion waiting to happen... and it's potential increases more and more each week.

The one week that Carly covered Carly's Stupid Tattoo is the one that results in her boot. Obviously, the tattoo had more supporters than she did.

vftw has been moderately successful this year. First, they backed Danny, then Amanda, then Kristy, and now Brooke. Nowhere near Sanjaya-level success, but I'll bet they had something to do with Kristy's longevity.

Brooke's "do over" is a show business no-no. Even in the bottom-feeding depths of community theater, we were always instructed to keep going if we skipped a line or lost our place. If anything crucial to the plot was missed, someone would figure out a way to work it into one of their lines. The AI band and backup singers are pretty awesome; I'm sure if Brooke had just stopped singing they would have picked her up in some way.

I went back and read the old AI thread. While several of us jumped on the Carrie bandwagon right away and favored her to win, SpongeScott was the only one who had the audacity to declare her THE winner after the auditions. I was the first to declare her "hot", though imagineer boy got far more effusive about said hotness in later posts.

Another shocking week.

In the Brooke/Syeshia pair, I thought it was going to be Brooke for sure. And with Carly/Jason, I thought it was definitely going to be Jason. And then I thought Syeshia was going home, which I would've been okay with. I didn't love Carly, but it was too early for her to go home...way too early.

It's definitely a popularity contest.

At the beginning of the first chorus, I noticed that Carly did sing "Jesus Christ, Superstar" instead of "Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ." But Syesha had a very minor mess up as well. Oh well.

I really liked her. I wished it hadn't been her to go. At least, between Syesha and her, I wish it was Syesha that went home. :(

It's almost to the point that I fast forward through a lot of people's performances. Except for D Cook. He is very good, and I'm always interested in what he's going to do. (Which I hate to admit!)

 His is always the performance I look forward to the most, as well... and I have no problem admitting it

Is it just my memory playing tricks on me or does it seem like he performs last a lot?

Oh and it was certainly not enough of a screw-up to even warrant a comment, but if she did say what poppins thinks she heard, I'd like to think it was because of that and not a dig at Brooke

I can't believe Syeshia was in the bottom after that performance.

Jason just flat sucks.....but I don't vote

Here's my two cents on what I think of the contestants...I seem to think differently than alot of you:

Carly: I thought she was overrated from the start, and I was bored to tears every time she sang. She is talented, and she might have an okay career, but i just do not think she has the "it factor" that it takes to become a huge star. And honestly, while I think her "performance" of Jesus Christ Superstar was good, I do not think she sang it well. I thought she shouted the words out at times. I've heard her sing much better than that.

Syesha: I think that Randy is right....she could have an excellent career on Broadway. I think she is very, very talented, but again...I do not think she has the "it factor" to be a pop star. But I really hope she gives Broadway a try....I think she would be great.

Jason: I liked him from the beginning. I do not think he is the most talented singer, but when he chooses the right song he does really well. The problem with him is that he is not versatile enough....it really has to be just the right song for him to sound good. And while he has had a few charming moments, most of the time he comes across as being too dorky. But he is getting the teeny bopper votes. He may have a short lived career after this, but I think he will soon be forgotten.

David Archuletta: I think he has the best voice of the bunch. The thing that is going to hold him back is his lack of personality. In the beginning, I LOVED him...I thought he was so cute. But his shyness and awkwardness is starting to get a bit old...and boring. If he can outgrow that, I think he could have a great career ahead of him. I can't picture him being a pop star, but I think he could do something along the lines of Josh Groban. Like Jason, he is getting the teeny bopper votes...and I think he is also getting alot of the grandparents votes(he is the only one my grandmother likes!).

Brooke: She has really disappointed me.....only because I thought she would do so much better than she has done. I LOVED her in the beginning. She has a unique look and sound. Not the most talented singer for sure, but I thought that she just might have that "it factor". But I think she is not versatile enough....like Jason, she MUST have just the right song to sound great. If she can find her niche and just stick with it, I think she could do well. I just do not think she is going to make it to the final two like I thought she would in the beginning. But I still really like her alot.

David Cook: My personal favorite from the beginning....but I really did not think he would be as popular as he is! But he has really proved he has the "it factor". I really hope he wins....I think it will be him and David A. in the finals....and I think it will be a very close vote. Whether he wins or not, I think he will have the most successful career of all the idols from this season.

That was our first thought when we heard her say it. We rewound it and watched it again and the way she said it, that was the impression we got.

That's a really valid point in the context of AI, but really, how many artists out there are successful in several genres? If Kenny Chesney put out a rap album, it would tank. Garth Brooks made that terrible Chris Gaines CD, and it was terrible, despite the fact he's the best selling artist ever (okay, before someone corrects me, that is not a quote, but a generalization).

That's an issue i have with AI - most successful artists today sing songs in their genre, and they put out a product that appeals to fans of that music. I actually think Randy and Simon were right on yesterday with their comments, it's not that Jason is a terrible performer, but he wasn't singing the songs he sings. They didn't tell him he stunk, but that he wasn't in the genre he belonged.

Now, some of you don't like Jason, and that's fine, too, as everyone has their favorites :).

I personally am not the type of viewer who says "______is terrible!" I will usually say something along the lines of, "I don't like _______," because really, at this point in the game, we know they're all talented, or the judges wouldn't have put them there (okay, perhaps Sanjaya would be the exception ). Plus, who am I to say someone who is singing in front of tens of millions of people is terrible...all I know is whether I like or dislike the performance. Also, someone can have a bad performance and not be terrible, it happens all the time on Idol, and makes the competition much more interesting, IMO.

I have to say, though, that while I have one or two favorites, I am not really "gearing up" for the finale like I have in seasons past. I'm wondering if that has something to do with the contestants this year or if it is just the whole AI machine getting old to me.
