All Tomorrowland, All the time (Has Disney given up on the TTA?)

Also, I know everyone here pretty much thinks that SGE is an abomination unto the LORD, (and I'm not a fan, either) but what else could realistically go in that space? The only two shows that have ever been there are the "rocket ride" and the "escaped monster". Flight to the Moon/Mission to Mars would put modern audiences to sleep, and a more "extreme", non-toon version of the "escaped creature" show was already tried and deemed not family-friendly enough for the MK. So what other options are there? I honestly don't see how the thing could be improved without ripping the innards out of the show building and installing something totally new.

I don't care that they put Stitch in, it's just a bad show.

I'm just sick of incessant, fanboi whining. Nothing is ever good enough for them.

What they fail to realize is that this is a BUSINESS. People feed their children and put a roof over their head based on the quality entertainment they provide.

So they don't put in ride audio on SM. They changed a spiel on the TTA. They did give the front line cast a 4-5% raise and IMO, i'd rather see that. I'd rather my friends continue to be able to put food on their table over the incessant whining of "They ruined it" because Disney did/didnt do XXXXX.

Walt said that the parks are ever changing. They're organic creatures that grow and live. Change is the one true constant in WDW and it has to be to keep people from coming back.
I'm not a Disney fan because they rake in tons of money.
I'm a fan because it inspires and truly creates wonderful experiences.
We only complain because we set Disney to high standard that we know that they are capable of.

Sometimes it's just a hit or miss kinda thing. SGE is very technologically advanced and was probably put to a very high standard, but it just doesn't sit well with guests.

With the recent "retro-izing" of the TTA and the Space Mountain refurb, it seems to me like TL is being informally divided into two areas: a "Toon" area consisting of the Buzz, Stitch, and Monsters Inc. attractions, and a "Classics" area consisting of Space Mountain, CoP, the Speedway, and the TTA/PeopleMover.

A nice show could be built around Wall-E. Imagine EVE flying around the room with 3-D/4-D effects. Yeah, that'd work! :)

My opinion time. After actually riding it and hearing the new narration in person, I can honestly ay that I love the new version. It is completely different than the previous, but it does a much better job of making the ride relaxing. It's much better than having that guy yell at you every few minutes.

Stitch and MI do fit in the new sci-fi version of Tomorrowland, and even Zazu and Iago fit in Adventureland.
Stitch and MI and Buzz fit in Toonmorrowland....not New Tomorrowland. Somthing is off when the theme of a land is altered jut to be able to shoe-horn characters in.

Yeah. I do. Its a great attraction for the 5-10 year old set. Everyone wants to be able to drive a car. Whats wrong with that?
What's wrong with the Speedway is that it hasn't been updated at all. Very little money, relatively speaking, would be needed to make it a true Tomorrowland ride. Just look at the one in Hong Kong. What MK has now is just....a go-kart ride plopped down in TL. They save some bucks by just calling it the "Tomrrowland" Indy Speedway. Efficiency over Show. Fail.

What they fail to realize is that this is a BUSINESS. People feed their children and put a roof over their head based on the quality entertainment they provide.
Sure. But are they able to feed their families more with Stitch and MI in TL than they were able to with AE or TK? Nope. Efficiency trumped Show. Fail.

Since when is that an issue? At what point did they decide that cast payroll was affected by capital investment for attractions? That is a new development, and I can assure you that the raises would still have been quite possible if they had put audio into SM. Efficiency trumped Show. Fail.

Eh...I usually agree whole heartrendingly with you, Lee. But I have to disagree to a point.

I loved New Tomorrowland. I thought it was a great storyline, but I had one very big problem with it: it was too binding, IMO. For what it was, it was as good as it possibly could be. But in my mind Tomorrowland, and all the lands in MK should be your own adventure. Should there be an overarching theme? Yes. But I feel that a storyline that ties every single ride in the land together becomes tedious and cumbersome.

Now, I'm not forgiving the poor execution of the current Tomorrowland line-up, but I don't lament the loss of the "city of the future" too much.

Completely agree.

Agree again. Although I'm not minding the pay raise.:lookaroun

ahhh...Good. It's back. I had been waiting to chime in.

Eh, I'm done with the old narration. I think the old theme portraying Tomorrowland as a "sci-fi city" has run its course and I'm much more interested to see what Tomorrowland will become than trying to promote keeping any last vestiges of the '94 version around

Which brings up this question: if the whole theme of Tomorrowland was primarily held together by the 1994 TTA narration, just how clear and strong of a theme was it really?

Tomorrowland, much like the rest of the lands in the Magic Kingdom, should be an assortment of adventures, grouped more by a general sense of being "out of this world" than straight-jacketed into following a strict storyline.
Now...I wouldn't say that. I would say, however that it needs to be renamed, in look, and strengthening in the cohesive theme.

However, with this new TTAP narr, I could see the 94 City Theme being dropped. This is a HUGE change in themeing.

It was a strong one, but this was it's synthesis. It needed it.

Agreed in full on your last point, though. Some things need to go for that to be done, though.:lookaroun:D
See I do not think it will be that simple. In all honesty unless you plan on skipping the huge technological advances in the 80's-90's, removing the first scene, or making the last scene a real time reflection of today then I think the attraction needs an additional scene. Then you also face the problem that in less than 10 years that last scene is way out of date again. Don't get me wrong I love CoP but Disney does not seem interested in putting the time and money into the attraction that it needs to keep it up to date and working. Right now the AA's at RFC are more realistic than what is currently in CoP. I would almost rather see it go away then continue in its current "held together with duct tape and zip ties" shape.
Move it to EPCOT. Seriously. It's time. Though I LOVE that it is still in MK and "Walt's" it would work REALLY, REALLY well with a sponsor and in Innoventions. I know it's a Fanboy thought, but...if the shoe fits...:D
Rocket Rods, though flawed due to a lack of proper budget, contained a higher degree of awesome than the TTA ever has or will. (IMHO)
(No, I'm not saying replace TTA with the Rods. Wouldn't work on that shorter and less interesting track.)

That's a plus? Not to me.

Also:
Haven't listened to the TTA audio. Saving it to hear in person, but I am severely dismayed by the continued "cartoonification" of TL.
I seriously dislike every attraction there other than SM (a love/hate thing), TTA and CoP (which I have no real feeling for one way or the other).
I would much rather have seen a smaller FL expansion and give the rest of that money to TL, to get it back on track and bring it up to the level it was 10-15 years ago.

And to think, when I was told months and months ago that TL would finally be getting a cohesive, unifying theme...I assumed that New Tomorrowland would finally be complete. Looks more like they are throwing it out in favor of Toonmorrowland.
WALL-E's BnL, right? Would have been nice...

So you want a park that just serves what you want as opposed to ... kids maybe?

What other attractions serve the boys 3-9 demographic?

Everyone little boy wants to drive the car, so TIS cant be touched. Lines are always long there.

SGE? While personally i hate it, 5 year olds like the 5 year old mentality.

MILF? Its not that bad, really. But once again, it caters to the younger set.

These parks need something for EVERYONE, not just YOU and what YOU and the other fanbois want.
No, they need to find a happy balance between the two. Break away from the "happy family" archetype.

Upper management has more than enough money to feed their kids and put roofs over their heads.

I see where you're coming from, and I wouldn't want to see the "community" theme done with the other lands which are done in a "montage" type of way. But for tomorrowland it worked IMO. I mean, they wanted to give the illusion that humans, robots, and aliens live and work together in a sci-fi futuristic community.

Too cohesive?!:brick::ROFLOL: Have you lost it?

You would think that a set limit and boundary of theme would only help. Look at AL...:lookaroun

Oh i completely agree that these rehabs should be giving more bang for the buck and that the general theme/show of the lands seem to be fading away. The show is not what it once.

The Speedway should somehow "Go Green" IMO as the smell of the gasoline really does disgust me.

I do think that middle management somewhere shoehorns their ideas in some sort of effort to justify their jobs. I think that if The Disney Co is really looking to trim the fat, there's a large percentage of middle/upper management in the parks that can be culled which would eventually result in better show. Fewer committees, fewer cooks to ruin the broth.

Yes, Disney CAN do better, they're just choosing not to.

Nope, a super strict cohesive storyline is what created this mess. They tried to theme all of Tomorrowland around one cohesive storyline with attractions that didn't last, and now we have 48 page debates about the destruction of a "great" story with the change of a narration which was due for a change a good 6 years.

Now look at the other lands. Changes can be made with out people screaming and crying about the smallest change. Sure, there can be some attractions that bind the lands together loosely, but for the most part the attractions were independent of each other, something that works much, much better, IMO.

You would think that a set limit and boundary of theme would only help. Look at AL...:lookaroun

AL is terrific.
