All EPCOT Center, All the Time- Part II

I hated how they ruined it, I loved the hydrolaters.

I agree, the hydrolators were cool, I thought it was really well themed. When we made our October trip last year, I couldn't believe what happened to that attraction (My last trip prior to that was in 02'). All it needed was some updates and plussing. I could not believe they put a Nemo overlay on it, way to go Disney, good thinking on that one.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
And I would gladly say yes to an expanded retaurant with regional offerings from around the US of A. I hate the fact that our country is represented as hamburgers and hot dogs (even though, yes, America is known for them).
Almost all of our food is "Americanized" versions of other foods. Ironically, one of the most American foods is the fortune cookie. That was STARTED in the US.

I liked how the old TLS used to have you go into the hydrolaters to in and out and now it's just a Nemo shop. The theme used to make sence. I totally agree with you.

Yeah. I remember going there as a kid and actually thinking the Hydrolaters were real. Actually thinking I was in a real sea base. The ride always sucked, but the sea base part I thought was so freakin cool. I could spend hours there.

Maybe I'm just a nerd, but I think Disney has forgotten that you don't need a cartoon character to entertain kids. Living Seas, Horizons, etc always entertained me and brought imagination to my head. One of the statements I live my life to is "If we can dream it, we can do it." Maybe that's why I'm an engineer..... the inspiration I received from EPCOT as a child.

I know, for the longest time I thought they were real too, I think I figured it out one day when we were exiting to go to The Land. (The Living Seas actually made me take up diving) As a kid I too was inspired by Disney to the point that I interned in their animation department one summer during college (many, many, many years ago). I wound up going into Art Direction, then ultimately Production, and to this day I dream about being an Imagineer.

I believe one of Walt's famous saying's was that you can educate people, just don't let them know that your doing it. I think they forgot that train of thought several years ago with respect to Epcot. It's unfortunate, but I doubt it's going away any time soon.

Yes' but so was Brazil and having a pavillion dedicated to Mexico only with a Brazillian Parrot and an American Duck makes no sense. Not to mention there are not supposed to be character-based Attractions in Epcot.
Is that a rule or something?:rolleyes::lol:

It USED to be the standard for EPCOT. One that I agree with.....But seeing as they want to expand their demographic, this is what they must do. I actually don't mind the 3 Cabs and the WS additions. It's the FW ones that get me.

Yes, that's exactly it!:sohappy: It was so immersive, and so optimistic for the future.

If anything needs to be brought back to FW, it's that. If they want to make it more of "Discovery" park :)rolleyes:) it should be at least optimistic about it.

Let's just say I am a bit more........optimistic.

Maybe if we use that term enough it will finally sink in with Epcot's designers.

Yeah, you're right. They plussed a pavilion that was pretty much dead, put Nemo into it, and now it's popular. Good thinking on that one.

Seeing as the aquarium and displays are all the same, logic would lead to believe you still would. :hammer:

Did you ever visit The Living Seas when it was in good shape? Before the Nemo overlay. For the first 5 years it was great, then they let it fall into a shape of dis-repair. The theming was exceptional.

Im not disagreeing with you that it gets a lot of traffic now, but it's so far from the original vision of Future World that it doesn't fit. The aquariums are in the same place, yes, but the exhibits and aquatic life in them are Nemo centered, and have been dumbed down to an extent. Trust me if you had seen The Living Seas as it was years ago, you might agree with me. All it needed was some updates to bring it back up to speed with the world, not a Pixar overlay.

I don't hate Nemo, I think it's a great film, I just don't understand what it's doing in Future World, but if you can enlighten me as to why, I am willing to listen.

I'm going to let this whole thing slide, as you're new here.

Got it :) ... I will say that I agree to disagree with you. The Living Seas was one of my favorites. Wanted to go into Marine Biology as a kid, but realized I was terrible at science, so I wound up going into one of the creative fields instead. Thanks for the free pass. This site is terribly addictive.

There seems to be correlation with the lack of sponsors with the decline of Epcot. A sponsor pulls out of an attraction, the attraction goes to hell, the attractoin gets rebranded by Disney and turns to crap. So, the question is why does Disney have to rely on sponsors for their attractions? Why does Disney let their attractions go to hell?

Sponsorship has always been a problem for any corporation, unless it's Nascar, then you have an abundance of sponsors :). I understand Disney's reasoning behind it, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

I know what you mean about rides going to hell though, it happened with 20K and when we were at the parks in Oct. 08'. I was shocked at how far they let Space Mountain go. I, like everyone else here, would just like to see more effort put into maintaining the rides and updating them before the become too stale.

We used to go to the parks every year as a family from the time I was 5 to the time I was 20, and the attractions always seemed to be well maintained. In more recent years, (I am in my mid 30's now) it seems to have been declining. I just hope they will turn things around ... like JT said, I am trying to be optimistic .

Things like HM and HoP/LS keep me optimistic.

No, it was exceptional for 15 years whilst United Tech paid for it. Once Disney had to foot the bill they closed Theatre 2 followed by the SeaCabs and kept it as a tribute to the mid 80's. Had Nemo not been greenlit the pavilion could have closed completely to day guests. Scary huh? I`m not saying Nemo is right, just a means to an end. Sadly.

What does in FW anymore? An attraction about cars and crash test dummies? A TV game show? A butt-edited flight over todays west coast?
