Yes. But to say that because they aren't doing it the Disney way makes it gaudy and tacky when the park will actually be far less tacky than the Disney parks is....frustrating.

I didn't say it was gaudy because they weren't doing it Disney's way. I just said they're gaudy. Also, "tacky" was your word, not mine.

Though I don't know why that matters, or why it frustrates you that we disagree

  • Riding Kong more times and seeing the outside section at night (highly recommended) even though those first rides were right after it came back online so a lot of things were not working as they should like the timing of audio in the AA room. Luckily my ride the next day was perfect :)
  • Seeing Volcano Bay construction from Cabana Bay.
  • Spending nearly a full day in Animal Kingdom just walking around even though we still didn't do Lion King or Flights of Wonder. Still needs more rides to do though.
  • Seeing the Lionesses play during my sunset safari.
  • Finding the best napping spot ever in the Nomad Lounge.
  • Seeing lighting tests for Avatar that I've already posted about in the Avatar section.
  • Seeing Moana at Disney Springs next to people who had a dog with them. No joke. It was very well trained though. Not a peep. It did climb on one of their laps to get a better look at the movie once :hilarious:
  • Blaze Pizza :hungry:
  • Walking deeper into some of the World Showcase Pavilions than I have before.
Sounds like a lot of fun! How were the crowds?

Now I'm curious what would happen if I show up to Blizzard Beach in a suit and tie. . .

Well it does seem to be the poolside dresscode at Aventura across the street from VB so....

I don't know why you assume I hate Universal? I go to USH all the time. Wizarding World is fantasic. But just as some may have double standards, others give Universal a free pass when they come up short in some areas
They have, and still do, come up short in many areas.

Personally I'm rooting for them due to the immeasurable improvements shown over the last decade, and in Orlando particularly. IMHO they are ascending. WDW is coasting, and in many areas declining. From this, both sides deserve the response they get. Again IMHO.

Uni Orlando is the underdog that came back from certain death to rebuild and even recreate itself. For that alone they get a nod. They've come so far but still have a way to go. The amazing thing is they still want and aim to get there.

But pleeeeeeease drop the a vs b argument. Again.

Good post; maybe they'll eventually meet in the middle haha. Nintendo Land looks to be extremely promising.

This statement completely crumbled my hope for the future of WDW. Given your deep detailed knowledge as an insider and of WDW yet to come, I no longer see any hope for a return to the original Walt Disney standards. And more locally, I have lost all hope that anything coming in the next 5-10 years will be anything other then cheap IP carnival rides (yes I am being extreme here to make a point). Oh Ghost of WDW Future, Please show me that things can and will improve to at least become the gold standard in theme park development again. Show me that imagination and innovation can bring this park back to what it was before. I have to get my hope back! :arghh::)

Which, let's face it, UOR has yet to produce anything that equals the two Potter areas. Those two areas are the best in Orlando. But it makes you think they slack off unless the Boy Wizard is involved.

I'm expecting Volcano Bay to be further evidence of that. The concept art doesn't exactly scream immersion, which is what makes Diagon so phenomenal.

Volcano Bay was also a rushed project that Comcast put a deadline in stating they had 2 years to develop and design after looking at a Universal Creative's member shelved project. Potter they had from the pitch to the get stuff together. The projects that taking Universal a long time to develop seem to be better the projects that have short timelines

As a customer, I root for Universal, too, but even I can see that they have not followed up Potter with projects that inspire confidence.

Whatever you think of the mixed reception to Kong (generally agreed to be a good ride that's too short, but not the super-E-ticket it was billed as), there's plenty of reason to think Universal is beginning to follow the Disney formula of over-hyping and under-delivering.

Fast and Furious.
Jimmy Fallon.
Volcano Bay.

At best, none of those projects promise groundbreaking entertainment; at worst, they are likely to be derivative and disappointing.

Until Universal proves it can bring the same level of ambition to a project that isn't overseen by Warner Brothers, I'll remain skeptical of their willingness to wow their customers. Of course, Nintendo will probably be just as demanding as WB, so I have high hopes for that expansion.

If they were pricing VB like a rush job, that'd be one thing. But with a premium admission price, people are going to expect a lot. We'll see if it delivers.

My thoughts exactly!
I too loved Kong at night.
That Volcano is yuuge....
Yes, DAK is still underbuild. Plus, it is all well and good the park stays open at night, but the trails and shows and Planet Watch close at 6pm, so I ended up walking back and forth between Everest and the Safari.
