We all know that this conversation never took place until Universal started calling Volcano Bay a theme park. Now we have to rationalize it so they are correct.

In my opinion, a water park definition is different than the contemporary theme park definition, but agree to disagree.
We have been having this very argument since IOA opened. The Disney fans were apoplectic that Universal dared call IOA a theme park.

"How dare they call it a theme park!?!?!?!? I can see a roller coaster!!!!! It's Six Flags!!!!! And Disney fans still say that. It has been said this week on this very forum.

Some people just like to complain on both sides of the fan base... It is like politics neither is right.....

Generalizing Disney fans like that is neglectful of the bigger picture. A majority don't act that way and I'm sure you understand that.

Calling Volcano Bay a water park like Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon (imo VB looks even better than those) is not a slight - yet I get the feeling some are taking it that way. It's not.

Water Mania was a water park. Volcano Bay is not. Even to an extent, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are not water parks just less themed parks in comparsion to VB

"Volcano Bay is an upcoming water park currently being constructed as part of Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida. Volcano Bay will replace Wet 'n Wild as Universal Orlando's water park, and it will be the first constructed by Universal Orlando itself. The park, themed around a 200-foot-tall (61 m) volcano named "Krakatau", is scheduled to open on June 1, 2017."

It likes people want to fight over that stupid dress that was one color to one and another color to someone else.... It is just silly.....

Universal is adding a cool cool cool thing for its resort guest... And another option for those that don't want to stay at Disney now gets some of what made WDW special on Universal site.... Good it is good! Now clap hands and be excited.... geez...ungrateful folks lately.

But the dress is an actual unarguable color.

We have vernacular that differentiates between tradition amusement parks and modern theme parks. We, as of now, don't have one in the water park realm. That is what Universal is doing here. And it has nothing to do with Disney. Universal who has been lumping WnW tickets into their vacation packages for years wants a way to tell their guests that Volcano Bay is NOT WnW.

Disney can do what they want.

Actually, the distinction will become very important when it comes to pricing. Theme Parks can cost 120 a day (universal is 105 during the slow season with no park hopper). Cool water parks cost significantly less. A year at Aquatica costs 60. Theme vs Water park could be a huge deal.

Yeah, that one. You do know that just because you can see the slides doesn't mean that is not themed or in fact tacky. That is just your opinion.

And it's your opinion that it isn't. I'm sorry if my criticism has somehow upset you

They are themed.

Theming a water slide as a water slide isn't what I'd call "theming." If they're supposed to be something else, they're doing a poor job

The volcano's still cool though

Volcano Bay will be infinitely less tacky than the Disney water parks.

I'm not sure why it has to be a competition? Having a tacky element at one doesn't undo the tacky element of the other. Both parks can have tacky elements; they don't exist in a vacuum.

Regardless, that's still theming whether it's tacky or not--my original complaint was about it lacking in some ways at VB
