This sounds really awful. Chernabog was the best float in my opinion, coming from the best part of Fantasia, so sad this parade had to go to way it did. I wonder why there was no protection to keep these floats from being weathered away?

I loved the Chernabog float. I am still surprised that this is how SpectroMagic ended. How sad.

Funny how stupid this was...save a little now but then pay alot more later which costs them more in the long run

I know it's not always possible but I always like spend a little now to make a lot more later

I hate wasting anything. When I was growing up and being raised by my grandparents, wasting anything was considered bad. They did not have a lot of money. But, that was in the late 70's early 80s. Times are different, we live in a throw away society.

It is understandable that things will get thrown away if they have been stored for a long time by Disney. On the other side of the coin, I am sure they have stuff in storage dating back to the 60's.

The parade was just left to rot under just a roof/tent, then they claim surprise when it is no longer usable.

On the up side they needed something new. My opinion is that be it Spectro, MSEP, or a new parade, the light parade is always fun to watch, and it is practically unique to Disney. I preferred MSEP, but enjoyed Spectro. I want/wanted neither to disappear forever.

Another update.... The Chernabog figure was not destroyed.. It was removed from the float unit to be put in storage in the event it can be used in a different location some day..

It's important to note that they only kept the head/torso/arms (the main body of the figure) not the wing portions or anything else.. The folding wings were made from wood, so they were likely damaged during the storage period.

There isn't much left at this point, so I doubt I'll have too much more to update this thread with.. What took years to build, took a couple weeks to destroy.... Very sad..

The plan right now is that the new 2014 parade is going to pull double-duty with day/evening performances for 6 months while Main Street Electrical Parade is refurbished/spruced up.

Another reason that the MK now costs $95 a day just to visit. For spectacular 40-year-old parades, or new ones that do double duty.

I loved the MSEP, but I also liked Spectro Magic. But now they need a whole new night parade. It's time. They are the number one park in the world. To get there they used to innovate. To stay there they need to do the same.

And, by the way, I noticed last week that it was nearly impossible to find merchandise for the Lion King or any other non-Fab Five or current-movie characters. Even at the Animal Kingdom, it was hard to find LK merchandise. I think the laziness of the marketing people is continuing to worsen.

Everything was well-kept and running. But I at least hoped to find a little more diversity in the merchandise offerings. And Lion King is an obvious omission.

Seriously, That 6 months will turn into years! MSEP will likely never come back and will suffer the same fate as Spectro.
