Seriously, That 6 months will turn into years! MSEP will likely never come back and will suffer the same fate as Spectro.

Always possible. Disney's done worse...I could see them viewing this as an excuse to never run light parades in the MK again. DL doesn't have one any more...

This will sound melodramatic, lol, but this is the first time since my mom died, about four years ago, that I've thought, "I'm glad she didn't live to see this."

She sure did love Spectro.

Maybe Spectro went to heaven, too, and all the dead who liked it (or never got to see it) can go watch at night. I bet it runs nightly in the summer in heaven (and it must always be summer in heaven, lol). They'll all be shimmering, glimmering, carouselling. :)

WOW you posted exactly what I have been trying to avoid thinking about. My mom passed 2 years ago and she absolutely loved spectromagic - she last got to see it in 2001. Of all the things of WDW - her fondest memories was of spectromagic where she would watch the parade. The amazing detail she could give was amazing even in her final months. It pains me that she is gone but I know she would have never wanted to hear such a beautiful parade is gone forever.

Once again, another example of what a great job the folks at TDO are doing at running the place....seriously termites just don't show up one day out of the blue and cause the damage they did right? Like did they just put the floats out in a tent and no one checked on them for a solid two years? Of course we're left with MSEP which although a classic hasn't particularly aged well. I enjoy the parade and all but my friend who is a big Disney was very baffled and confused by it after she saw it for the first time. It's a very odd parade...a bunch of giant mushroom shaped floats, a caterpillar smoking a hookah, a Pinnochio segment themed to Pleasure Island, a Pete's Dragon float, and then "A Salute to America" to tie it all up.

Your reasons are precisely why I hate MSEP. Outside of the music it is a horrible parade. I can live with many of the floats but the salute to america float is disgusting - that is not an ending!

I'd have to research this, but it is my recollection that, at least in the beginning of 2001, the parade was MSEP.
Not that in the long haul it really matters, but it's possible that the parade your mom loved was the one that is running right now.

Blame it on my newbie status *LOL*

I am saddened by the news that SpectroMagic is gone... forever! I loved the parade and I do have the CD at home. Will definetely listen to it when I get home tonight. It was definetely the highlight of my first trips when I was younger. :(

You may be right I do recall Spectromagic not being shown for a few years in the late 90s/2000's. However, my mother saw Spectromagic every year between 1994 and 1999. I actually think in 2001 there was no parade when we went to the MK. However, nonetheless - she saw the REAL SPECTROMAGIC PARADE between 1994 and 1999.

Doing what I should have done before inserting my foot into my mouth, I looked it up and if she was there after April 1, 2001 she might well have seen it. I apologize for being lazy and only making assumptions based on the fact that I saw it the very first time the end of February 2001 and just assumed that it lasted all that year. I will be more careful in the future.

Aw c'mon now, the America float is my favorite part of the entire parade!!! Love those Yankee Doodle Girls and the medley of patriotic tunes that plays! Funny how my very favorite thing is your least favorite...ha!!

Walt was very patriotic. As were most Americans...in the 1970s...apparently...

Well there was the Bicentennial, though I believe the patriotic finale was implemented a fear years after that.
Anyone know of a good source that shows the way the parade units have changed over the years? There's a little info on Wikipedia but it's not exhaustive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_S...ain_Street_Electrical_Parade_.28Disneyland.29

Because parades have mostly military/nationalistic origins, it just makes sense to include this kind of imagery.

The patriotic music is the best part of the parade. (Not a fan of the MSEP score.) The ending floats, although nice, don't mesh with the rest of the parade.

At least it's better than the float from the orginal MSEP

I have to admit this is cute - considering 1972 - I can imagine this was stunning back then. I would actually prefer the one flag float instead of the girls sweating bullets dancing and guys hooting at them.

Ok, are they seriously planning on refurbing MSEP instead of creating a new night parade? And they will run an afternoon parade at night to fill in the MSEP spot until it comes back? Unless of course they store the parade floats wrong again and they become destroyed in the process...
