The source of this claim was again Splash Archive. He said there was an unconfirmed possibility that the upper half portion of the giggling Brer Rabbit figure might be salvaged and reused for the rabbit in the art.

The track layout isn't charging. But the big drop will be less psychologically intense due to the scenery alterations during the final lift and removal of the briar patch.
The post also claims that the reused figures will include a few frogs, the storks (which I assume may only apply to Disneyland as WDW never got copies of the AS storks) and the tiny hanging possums (which was already confirmed in a prior piece of art).

Yeah I remember being pleased to see this concept art when it was released but I have since come to the conclusion that the artist was taking artistic liberty or that they have gone in another direction. Unless maybe part of the story is that Mama Odie does a little magic and transforms the animals for the big Mardi Gras finale/ party in the city but I doubt it. The scene with 6 animals playing instruments is an actual scene where the anthropomorphic animals are just concept art and it really wouldn’t make much sense to have them both on the same ride.
At this point I don’t care if they re anthropomorphic or not. It’s the least of my worries.

The art from Sharika Mahdi I also might have just disregarded on its own if it was all we had. But Disney specifically said they were using her art as an inspiration. And that seems to have been the case based on the ride art. The only critters we've seen front and center with clear detail are those small ones. But they're still standing upright similar to the smaller critters in Splash. And again, that other official piece of art of the ride shows larger critters that are visible enough to tell that they're in an upright position.
I don't think they went in another direction btw. Not only was this ride art shown off fairly recently before the newer critter band one, but the otter character in particular appeared in both pieces.
The Tiana's Palace facade for the finale is another thing Mahdi's art predicted. Though the design differs somewhat from the renders Splash Archive got ahold of. I can't link it since it was shared without permission and he asked people not to repost. But what they're building is more of a traditional French Quarter looking building with a second level, some nice looking curved staircases on the sides and rails along the landings (and another structure on the left side where the swamp boys were located that appears to be a gazebo or something).
I think they're probably going with the idea of there being other animals out there who want to follow in Louis' footsteps. Louis being the only true animal we see in the movie who taught himself to walk upright and play an instrument, wishing to be human. Assuming that's what is happening, that can justify any potentially anthropomorphic designs. Or perhaps it is indeed Mama Odie working a little magic into things.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were recurring as a little "side-story" like the bird or Pluto and the picnic basket in Runaway Railway. I think we can expect a few of those side-plot Easter eggs.

I'm remindd of how the Little Mermaid ride made duplicates of a few characters in the "Under the Sea" scene and put 'em in the finale for some reason.
Back before things supposedly changed, I fully expected a B-plot side story to be Louis finding his trumpet or rather us counting how many times the instrument shows up throughout the attraction. Not ruling it out.
As long as it doesn't become the norm. I think it'd be a fun addition.

With the bottles installed, I’m really starting to believe that rumor that we will know when this opens on Mardi Gras. I’m also starting to believe it’s gonna be sooner then we all think.

I can’t imagine it will be anywhere near as hard to get for a variety of reasons:
1) The ride system has proven to be efficient and reliable over the past 30 years. It’s also a long ride, and as a result, a high capacity ride.
2) The demand for a rethemed ride will always be lower than a new ride. Especially when comparing IPs (PatF vs Star Wars).
3) It’s opening in a park with better capacity and more in demand attractions compared to Hollywood Studios.
The only way that the VQ becomes hard to get is if they artificially “increase” demand by offering far fewer boarding groups than the ride can actually support. I don’t think they are silly enough to do that.

To play devils advocate, in reference to #2. If it’s a good ride (jury is still out on that) people will come also rethemed rides based on liked properties get consistent lines. See Malestrom to frozen I’m in no way saying PATF is comparable to the IP’s you listed just an observation.

To be fair, Frozen is Frozen, and Maelstrom just felt like it was there most of the time (as opposed to Splash which was always a headliner).

The ride is going to be "swamped" (pun intended) with crowds for quite a while after it opens. I'm going to go out on a limb and theorize it'll probably open with a virtual queue system and probably remain that way for a while..

I think they could put almost anything in Splash Mountain and folks would line up all day long because of the drops, thrill factor, and the final 50+ ft splashdown.
