Okay, so I have a few family members that pretty much swear you can't get a good meal while in WDW. This drives me crazy since I truly look forward to planning our meals and have had some of the best food there.
When you have someone asking for advice on dining which 5 do you feel confident throwing at them?

I hate to say it....but i have to agree with both of what you are saying. We always leave Dinsey complaining about the food...but we always look forward to the 180 mark to make all our ADR's and we look forward to each and every meal we choose. That being said...it really hard to give suggestions as everyone tastes are so different...but I would have to list them as this

Chef Mickey
Mama Melrose
50's Prime Time
Raglan Road
Ohana

(in no special order)

I hear you as far as different tastes go. I kind of think that you almost have to throw a signature meal or two in the mix to improve your attitude towards the food. But we always do this so maybe that's why I don't usually complain?
I think my five right now are....
Narcoosee's, California Grill, Wolfgang's Cafe, Ohana and Kona
I will be eating Chef Mickeys dinner for the first time in August. Raglan Road used to be up there for us but slid way down on our last trip due to awful service.

We eat a signature almost every night...(we do the deluxe dining) but i tend not to suggest them to others unless I know they are on the plan. Narcoosee's would also be our top pick. We never eat at table at Raglan Road...we like to eat at the bar and have had nothing but great service and good food! We find a meal is never the same twice..something is always different...for the good or bad. I think it has a lot to do with how hungry/tired you are..and on your mood!! We will never give up on any meals at Disney but know we will not get blown away. We tend to do a every other trip rotation with the ones we like so we dont wear out our liking!!!

Disney has some of the best dining IMO. I was just there last week and the food was better than ever. I'll throw out my five restaurants with a menu recommendation so you know what to get. Because every restaurant has something less than mediocre on its menu.

Le Cellier (Filet Mignon w/Mushroom Risotto)
Artist Point (mushroom soup, cedar planked salmon)
Kona Cafe (Tuna Oscar)
Portobello (Mushroom Appetizer, gnocchi w/roasted pork, pistachio gelato)
California Grill (Sashimi)

Kona and Le Cellier are on the dining plan. But my general rule of thumb is if you want great food you'll have to pay for it. Everyone's tastes are different, if you make your reservations wisely you can find a lot of good eats.

My top 5:
*Ohana
*Whispering canyon
*Beirgarten
*1900 park fair
*mama melrose

I can see how people say you cant get a good meal. It isnt cheap for the quality of food you get by any means. (not that the food is bad) But if you live in an area that has a lot of great restaurants I can see how you could be underwhelmed. It took me a bit to get over this myself and just enjoy the dining as a total experience.

This is like Sophie's Choice..I love Disney Food so much! Well, I'm generally obsessed with food as a whole, but I have a ridiculous love for Disney Food.

Ok let's see. I agree with categorizing the Signature Dinner's on a different level because not everyone can swing that. With that being said, California Grill is the best meal I have had at WDW, as well as one of the best ever.

But overall, here are my Top 5:

Ohana
Le Cellier
Mama Melrose
Ragland Road
Yak & Yeti

Breakfast Choices-
1900 Park Fare
Crystal Palace

Thank you guys for your posts. It is helpful to see what your choices are and the similarities for sure. I do agree with classifying the signatures separately when needed. These family members of mine happen to be open to them so I've been including them in our chats. But it's not always the case depending on who you are talking to.

I really think another important part of planning your dining comes after you've chosen your restaurants. I have almost always done a little reading on reviews of my choices and what appetizers, entrees, and desserts are they known for. Any kind of background helps. I also like to talk to the servers about the menu.

I would suggest:

Dinner:
Les Chefs de France
Le Cellier
Rose and Crown

Lunch:
Yak and Yeti
Pizza Planet
El Pirate (I know they changed the name)

Breakfast:

1900 Park Fare
Crystal Palace
CRT
Kona Cafe
Chef Mickey

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
I try not to as some places would be wasted on them. my FIL would be just as happy at Pescos Bills as the Calli Grill, so why waste the wedge.

Last year we went with friends and they enjoyed where we went but admitted they wouldnt have bothered with the signature place if they were on their own.

Our must do is California Grill then perm one or two from the following, Jikos, Artists Point, Kona Cafe, San Angel SciFi Id now also add the Yachtsman and Fultons to that list.
