I have been glued to my television all week watching Phelps drive for 8. What a story it has been for the first week of the Olympics. Even as a proud Canadian who supports our athletes 110%, I still found myself cheering him on all this week. Way to go Michael...congrats on this huge accomplishment! I think this is something we may never witness again at this level and am glad that I got to see him do it live. :sohappy:

Now come on Canada...let's go get us a few more medals here!

It's funny, we have a lead in the medal count at the moment: USA - 72, China - 67, Russia - 36. But it turns out that if the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics still existed, they would have 92 medals and be kicking all our butts in the medal count.

Just watched my recording of the women's floor and vault from last night.

O.M.G those dumb judges!! Poor Alicia comes back and does, imo, two great vaults. And that China girl FALLS AND BEATS ALICIA'S SCORE?!?!?! Ugh. The judges have not been great this entire Olympics. Alicia deserved the bronze.

I agree! Alicia did a lot better than both the North Korea girl and China girl IMO. Alicia deserved the silver!

I am a huge Nastia Liukin fan and I have been since 2004. I'm so excited for her and everything she's achieved in Beijing. Still, it was absolutely heartbreaking watching her stand on the podium through the Chinese national anthem after she got the silver medal on uneven bars. She got the exact same score as He Kexin, but was awarded second place through the computerized tie-breaking methods. She held it together very well and was a good sport in all the interviews, but it was hard to watch. Did anyone else catch that sad medal ceremony?

are the olympics still going on :snore: i mean....the first week is the best.

second week....track and field...I love to run but I don't like seeing other people run.

and the things they come up with as "sports"...i mean, most of them are activites not sports.

where's lacrosse or rugby (even though I don't understand the rules)

The IOC and the Gymnastic Federation have opened an investigation into the age of He Kexin. Apparently, new documents have been found that have her correct age at 14. There's a chance her medal, and China's team medal, might be stripped.

And after an intense and trying 12 hour investigation, the IOC and FIG have ruled the Chinese gymnasts... are 16. Way to go IOC and FIG, you almost looked credible for an hour or two there. *sigh*

I figured the "investigation" was just for show but it's still frustrating. IMO, the IOC has embarrassed themselves a few times in this game and lost a lot of credibility. It's sad :(

I liked one of the articles that I read earlier which pointed out that when the NCAA does an investigation for show, they at least send people into the field and come back with results a couple of months down the line. This wasn't even close to looking like a legitimate attempt at an investigation.

Coming to WDW?

Has anyone heard of any of the USA Olympic champs coming to WDW after the games? I know 4 years ago they were in the MK. Just wondering if anyone has heard news of this.

Anyone else see this about the Cuban competitor in Taekwondo that kicked the referee in the face because of his being disqualified?

http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/be...ug=ap-tae-taekwondo-roundup&prov=ap&type=lgns

I showed it to Brenda and it had mentioned some other controversies for this Olympics with the Taekwondo events. It made Brenda laugh when she noticed that the sport governing body, the World Taekwondo Federation, is abbreviated "."

Haha, yeah I saw that as well. I found it ironic and had a laugh when you pointed out the bit  Did you hear about the horrible podium luck in the canoe-kayaking?? They're dropping like flies after their races!
