If you've ever been lucky enough to be at one of the WDW parks before opening, you know its an exciting time. The anticipation of being one of the first people to enter, the crowds, not to mention the entertainment thats given before the rope is dropped and everyone is let in.

So, which park do you think has the best rope drop in WDW???

I have only been to MK and DHS. I do not remember much at DHS since everyone was gearing up for the sprint to TSMM!

My wife and I had b-fast one morning at Chef Mickey's and just "happened" to be early enough at the Magic Kingdom for opening...what a treat! I have yet to experience any of the others...but on the next trip we will try! I know I will "drag" my DD and the rest of the family to the Magic Kingdom for that opening and try to video as much as possible.

I have only ever been to the MK for rope drop. I really enjoy it. I even have it recorded in HD and watch it from time to time.

I voted for Magic Kingdom, because of the show they have with it.

But the best experince I ever had with an rope drop was in Epcot, as I was selected out of the row to be one of the first to ride on SOARIN front row with only 4 other people in the whole attraction!

What a great question! I love them all and DHS is a close second but MK takes the win for me!!! I ADORE the welcome music and such and it's so exciting to walk into MK where the streets are damp and the CMs wave to you and you bolt to your must-do attraction!

I have seen all 4 and MK wins for me. I really enjoy the others, but MK's is really sweet, exciting and fun.

Magic Kingdom except during Star Wars Weekend then most certainly it’s DHS.
I don’t know if they still do it but we went for the rope drop at DHS during star wars weekend when DS was 7 years old. His jaw hit the ground when he saw the line of Storm Troopers after we cleared the turnstiles. That was the day when after getting his picture taken with Darth Vader he bowed and said “thank you my master.” Yup that’s my son.

I haven't seen Epcot's, and it's been a while since I last saw Animal Kingdom's and I wasn't too close to the front so I don't have a great memory of it, but Magic Kingdom's is the best that I have seen, followed by Hollywood Studios. I would like to see Epcot's though.

I never do a full day WITHOUT doing a Welcome Show/Rope Drop, so I know them all very well!

Here are my favorite Welcome Shows, in order of preference: (interestingly, they are in the same order of my fave WDW parks)

1) Magic Kingdom - As others have said, this one is Magical and iconic. I love how the Main Street citizens transition to a Fantasy theme, as a medley of "Casey Junior"/"Zip A Dee Doo Dah" plays as the WDW Railroad steam train arrives, with characters on board! Then after some cute and iconic Mickey quotes ("Aw gee", "That's swell!"), Mickey and the gang countdown backwards from 10, and the park officially opens with a bang!

2) Animal Kingdom - "The Adventure Begins" is a fun Welcome Show with the characters that used to take place in front of the Tree Of Life, but seems to have been permanently moved to the Oasis just past the turnstiles. Either way, it's a cute, fun, and charming way to start the day. I love Pluto's enthusiasm, expressed with his cute barking, which always cracks me up!

3) Epcot - Just as Epcot runs neck and neck with AK for my second fave park, the Welcome Show here finishes closely behind AK. This features the Fab 5 characters, but they don't have any diologue. However, what I LOVE about this opening show at Epcot (just in front of the fountain) is that if you get there early enough to get a good spot by the rope, you are rewarded with the characters coming over for handshakes and hugs! Interestingly, the soaring instrumental that plays as the rope drops is musical score from the recent live-action film version of Peter Pan - which was distributed by Universal!

4) Disney's Hollywood Studios - This is the only welcome show to not feature any of the "furry" characters, so it has the least appeal to me. It focuses instead on a director setting up a "scene" of the park opening. Personally, I'm not into the whole "celebrity" and "showbiz" aesthetic, so I don't get all that into this show. I do enjoy riding the Coaster over and over again right after rope drop, however, especially now that Toy Story has taken many of the "early birds" in that direction, instead.

Favorite Rope Drop Destinations:

MK - All of Fantasyland, then Toontown; OR multiple laps on Space Mountain, then Tomorrowland; OR multiple laps on BTMRR, then Splash Mountain, CBJ, the rest of Frontierland, then Adventureland.

AK - Usually Everest (multiples) or Safari; sometimes It's Tough To Be A Bug. I ALWAYS backtrack to the Oasis later in the day to give those critters the attention they deserve, however!

Epcot - Figment or The Seas, getting a kick out of the fact that I am seemingly the only person starting in Future World West NOT starting my day at Soarin'! ( I am always able to get a FP for it later)

Studios - Rock and Roller Coaster (multiples); sometimes Great Movie Ride or Star Tours, such as if Coaster is being rehabbed. Star Tours (version 1) got a lot of starts towards the end of it's life, and on Star Wars weekends.

Actually I have a question for you guys about this. The DH and I vacation at WDW every year...but we've never seen a rope drop at any of the parks! I know...we're terrible...but I'm a bit of a troll in the morning so I'll take the heat for this one ;)

Anywho, what time do you suggest getting there in the morning for the rope drop? Like 15-20 minutes before the park is scheduled to open?

Thanks!

Yeah, but earlier if you can, you definitely wanna be in the front if possible. But, I guess if you're there for it, even if you're in back, its okay. Have fun!
