A few years ago!!! Be sure to stop by the stage though as a few familiar faces may be there in the new band, Alberta Bound. Also Jason & Billy from Off Kilter perform as a duo at Scat Cats lounge in Port Orleans French Quarter most Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings. Marie

So true, but it's not really a little thing. Back in the day, we'd eat at Mexico, Italy, Canada, and either the Yachtsman's or Concourse Steakhouse on every trip (sometimes mixing things up here and there to try someplace new). We'd usually get ADRs a day or two before, but sometimes we'd just walk up. But these days it just seems like too much of a hassle - so much advanced planning required, such a high cost if you're not doing the dining plan. At some point it just became not worth the trouble. I definitely miss it.

Does anyone else remember "Magical Moments"? A Cast Member would just give you some extra service, like Fastpasses for a popular attraction or a free popcorn or whatever. My kids used to love that - it would really make you feel special. I don't know if they are still happening - we haven't experienced it in years...

Go to the thread about where they reduced the hours to 1200-500, and one of the other posted their video of all the different adventures. One of the adventures shoots the cannon off outside of the PotC to ring the bell above the Tortuga, and another that has you stand in adventureland with a view point of the old fort guns on top seeing them shoot off, I thing the cannon fire sound is near where your perspective is. We just did one adventure ourselves that didn't have any of the cannons on them.

I was there that night. It was very cool to see so many people crammed into the little plaza area to bid goodbye to the boys!

I may have missed this in 5 pages of posts, but the first thing that came to mind for me was the Lights of Winter in Epcot. I've never bought the story that the control system broke and it was so old that they couldn't fix it. If they'd wanted to they could have easily rewired all new LED lights into the frames, and controlled them with any garden variety PC. Nope, they just didn't want to go through the effort (and expense) of putting them up. Very sad - they were a huge part of my Christmas vibe at Epcot!

Already 5 pages of things people miss just shows how much has changed over the years. Some for the better. Some for not so better.
I miss, in no particular order:
  • Wishes
  • Jiminy Cricket and other characters not available for pictures and autographs
  • Characters not roaming the parks, although I understand what a disaster this could be with current crowd levels
  • Higher quality and creative souvenirs and adult clothing.
  • The old Disney standards regarding care of the parks and resorts.
  • MK being open until 1:00 or 2:00 AM in the summer.
  • Not having to empty my pockets and walk through metal detectors.
  • I miss the variety and the quality of pastries at the Main St. bakery.
  • I miss the old GAC program which made our son's visits easier on him. I know why it was discontinued. I played by the rules then and I play by the rules now. That doesn't mean I can't miss it.

Live Music unlike anything anywhere else:
Future Corps in Epcot.
Tubafours at the Boardwalk.
Hollywood Hitmen in MGM (not all that unique, but live horn bands are few and far between).
Not unique, but live bands every night at Pleasure Island.

Fun and Unique DISNEY pubs:
Catwalk Bar in MGM.
Adventurer's Club in Pleasure Island.
(looking forward to the non-Disney Edison)

I miss a lot of the bigger things from my youth in the 70s or my early adult years in the 90s, but those are the little things that I really miss every time we visit.

We miss the player piano along with the other old arcade games and kinetoscopes when they used to work.



Also, I personally miss when the Crystal Palace was cafeteria-style and I could have spaghetti and meatballs. The best part was the accordion player would come over and play at your table.

Being there, I realized that their last day was one of those special moments that don't happen too often. It isn't said enough that they were a unique and enjoyable part of Disney history.

In a weird way, I miss actually being scared of the Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror.

A few years ago we went straight to HM after rope drop (at DLR) and it was kind of creepy being the only ones on the entire ride. We didn't even see a CM for a good 5 minutes while standing in the entrance way listening to the organ of Grim Grinning Ghost. Took me back to my childhood!
