What kind of Disney fan are you?

After reading much about D23 and how it's attempting to cater to "Disney Fans", I agree with Werner Weiss that there are many kinds of Disney fans, you can't fit us into a specific category.

I consider myself a fan of the classic ideals of the Disney theme parks, the wide variety of experiences that Walt believed in and especially a positive vision of the future.

I enjoy some of the 90's movies, and some classics, but honestly have not watched a lot of them.

I had more fun as a kid at EPCOT Center than I did at the Magic Kingdom.

For cartoon shows, I am a big fan of the old Goofy Sports cartoons.

That's probably the number one thing I learned from wdwmagic.com. :lookaroun

I agree that there are all sorts of disney fans! It is so cool to learn about new aspects of the parks that I may not spend a lot of time in!

As for the cartoons, I just bought my DD a few DVDs from Best Buy that had a lot of Goofy's instructional videos! It is so awesome that she loves them as much as I do!!!

How I would do a general rank of things offered by Disney:

1. Theme Parks (all aspects and resorts, even if I haven't been to all of them)

2. Live-Action Movies

3. Animated Movies

4. TV and merchandise

More specifically:

I prefer to watch the live action films over the animated ones most of the time. Give me The Great Locomotive Chase, Escape to Witch Mountain and The Parent Trap! (1961) anyday over Lion King or Beauty and the Beast or Bambi. 2 out of my top 3 Disney films are not animated and 6 out of my top 10 are the same, having said that, these are the animated films I like best from the mouse:

Sleeping Beauty (#1)
The Great Mouse Detective
The Black Cauldron
101 Dalmatians
Cinderella
Lady and the Tramp
The Rescuers
The Little Mermaid
The Sword in the Stone
Alice in Wonderland
Treasure Planet
Lilo and Stitch
The Emperor's New Groove
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

When it comes to TV, the anthology show is best (Scarecrow of Romney Marsh 1-3, An Adventure in Color, Mars and Beyond, Backstage Party, Disneyland 10th Anniversary all great episodes) with Ducktales, Gummi Bears, Adventures in Wonderland, Zorro, The old Mickey Mouse Club (for its seriels) are all good for me too. Certain specials were great too, like Muppets at WDW, Flupy Dogs and most importantly Mr. Boogedy and it's sequel, along with the 3 Halloween specials.

For video games The D-Show was the best (sorry Kingdom Hearts, you were fun, but you're no match for that CD-ROM)

I guess you could say I love older Disney best, mostly the stuff before I was born. When think of Disney I think of the "Walt Disney and You" ad found on old VHS tapes.

I gravitate more towards Donald/Chip/Dale but nothing beats those old shorts, that's for sure.

My daughter loves them as well and hopefully my bun in the oven will be a fan too one day. They're a lot of fun to watch together.

Being from Jersey, since we have been to WDW 19 times from 1997, some would think we are fanatical. But having been a member here for at least 6 years, I feel we are just mild fans, considering that there people here who go almost every weekend, convience of the fact that they live close to the World. But still, there are those who live farther away than we do and have gone more than us. Now me personally, I believe that there are also many levels to that fandom, and as long as their lives don't revolve around the world, there really is no such thing as a fanatic. Intense yes, but everyone does keep their feet on the ground and their eyes in the real world. For me, when I pass under the welcome gate, I do enter another world, where all my problems do not follow, and my only care is where I will go to have fun next, and even though my sons are older, I can still live vicareously through others who are there for the first time, and the wonder in a young childs face as they enter for the first time.

This is going slightly off topic, but it's MY topic so...

I agree, and I'm quite excited because a couple of girls I worked with briefly in the Philippines are now here in Tampa and I'm taking them to WDW on Saturday. One of them has never been to any nice theme park before and has never been outside of the Philippines, so it's going to be really exciting to see what she thinks, I'm sure she will love it.

Interesting question. Even though I went to (and really enjoyed) Disney as a kid, I never truly "appreciated" it. Never got into the movies, cartoons, animation, etc.

Now, as a parent I find that I am starting to catch up on the movies side of things (lol - Kids!) but I'd say that I'm essentially a fan of the theme parks .. I love the engineering side and how immense the whole operation is. Don't get me wrong though --- I still 'get' the magic .... :)

We need time for things to happen.
Huge fan of the Parks

Mainly WDW, but would love to visit all the rest.
Been to DL once, and enjoyed it but it was a long time ago.

Movies and memorabilia (outside of some new retro shirts) - just a passing fancy.

Yes
I am more a fan of the Parks than anything really. I could care less about the movies. Dont get me wrong I enjoy the movies, but they do not put me in a Disney mood.

I am "old school Disney". I remember going to see Snow White at the drive-in theater in the San Fernando Valley. I remember how scared I was when I watched the "Moon Spinners" (there was something frightening back then in it).

I remember getting off of the freeway in Anaheim and seeing the Matterhorn looming...I cannot tell you what a thrill that was. Getting out of the parked car and taking the "long" walk to the gates.

I remember Disneyland...how HUGE it looked when I was younger and would go to visit. I remember the "People Mover" and how it scared me to have to figure out how to jump on while it was moving :O

And, the Mickey Mouse Club...how I miss the good old days!

And now, my first trip to WDW to try and grab a few of those "fun young" feelings again!

I am a total DISNEY DORK. Honestly, when I was one I went to WDW the first year it opened. Since then, I have been drawn to anything Disney. I grew up in Florida so at least 2 times a year I was there.

My interest in WDW lead me to be interested in other aspects of Disney such as history, animation amongst others.

Since I was around 16, I really became interested in the business side of Disney.

I am very thankful that I have a very understanding Wife. I really don't think there are alot of woman who would put up with me and my Disney Fetish.

I did manage to find a pic of me at my 1st birthday party. Guess who was on the cake??? Mickey Mouse!

I love everything Disney but I'm enamored with WDW. Also being a frustrated musician I love Disney music, everything from the parks to movies. Lately I've also been reading many books on the Disney management style. Trying to bring what I can to my company.

I think I am right in line with the type of Disney Fan that you are. I prefer to go to Epcot and spend my day there just as much as I did when I was 12 in 1983. I can only remember going to all the rides at Epcot. I don't remember as much about my time in the Magic Kingdom. I am right with you when it comes to the movies.

I'm one of those Disney fans with broad interests. Whether it's parks, tv, movies, animation etc. What I really like is the integrity of what Disney does. (Or rather that Disney used to do all the time) Regardless of the medium, Disney seems to do everything better, with more attention to detail, more attention to the enjoyment of the guest or consumer. If forced to putmyself into a category, I say PARKS. Mostly because the parks encompass the Disney experience the best. Everything that Disney does, or has done is utilized in the parks. Which then sparks my interest in another directions. I find them inspiring. And when they fail on any count, I am far more disappointed than with any other company. Because they have generally delivered more than I could ever hope so many times.
