What Happened in Paris...can EASILY Happen in Disney World

. They're terrorists, their goal is to spread terror, and use that to manipulate their targets. By reacting exactly the way OP is reacting, they win. We compromise on liberties and lifestyles out of fear and nothing more. Yes it's terrible, it makes my stomach turn to read the news about it, but simply panicking and throwing up fear based walls everywhere hinders us more than them, and it means they won.

I will go to Disney with my head held high and my heart in my chest and not my throat, I will not give them the satisfaction of living in fear.

It can easily happen anywhere. Disney world is no different than any other crowded place. I think Disney does a pretty good job of checking bags. Obviously there could always be higher security but that's everywhere. Fact is there are crazy people in the world and they will do damage in 1 way or another. A medal detector or anything like that won't stop a crazy person regardless.

I've arrived late to this thread, and have enjoyed reading the differing points of view. The one thing that continues to bother me is why anyone would beg for the thread to be closed. If you don't like it, don't read it. So many responses in so short a time is a good indication that plenty of people are interested in participating. And that's a good thing!

Could and will happen anywhere, WDW also have K9's on patrol as well as Orange County Sheriff Dept at WDW daily.

I don't disagree with the first poster, but the truth is just as many have said, the sad fact is that it can happen anywhere in todays day and age. I don't know how much more Disney can do on such a large scale to prevent something like that, but I imagine Disney employs a much larger scale of security should the unfortunate event of something happening and I imagine the cast members are trained to react in such a situation.

I'm not sure. Should Disney and other theme parks go full airport security level when entering the parks?

Somebody suggested that it would be more successful as an inside job. With the way the monorail operates(or not) lately would be a crap shoot trying to come in from TTC.

It's actually not very difficult. Install security checkpoints at the Transportation Center. Everyone must pass through a metal detector and/or be wanded before being allowed to pass beyond the checkpoint. Then they are allowed to Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

Do the same at the other parks (Hollywood Studios and MGM). It won't take that long if they start checking 1 to 2 hours BEFORE the gates open.

Any guest at a Disney property that can take a monorail to the parks must undergo a background check and confirm citizenship of this country or their country, or present their VISA or passport.

Disney can also offer a security pass for members who want to automatically be passed through security. That will entail and additional cost, but that will pay for a very detailed background check to ensure security clearance.

The problem is that you can't have it both ways....
Either a) We attack the terrorist and kill them all and NEVER stop
or b) We change our way of life and implement the security procedures necessary to prevent their terrorist attacks.

But most people don't want to do either. They live in a fairytale world and sadly...when Disney is attacked.......and it will be one day believe me......that specific fairytale world will be shattered.

The pre-screening passes are never a good idea. I hate seeing them in airports because I know in the back of my mind all it would take is the family of someone with such a pass to be taken hostage and then dear old mom or dad would be more than willing to use their special status to smuggle in whatever the bad guys wanted.

The best defense to any acts of terrorism isn't to try and stop the terrorists actions, it is to eliminate the terrorist before they have a chance to act.

Think of it like this you are many times more likely to be struck by lightening or win the powerball than be injured in a terrorist event.

The scary thing though is one day the terrorists will overplay their hand and the rest of the world will go into a frenzy and decide to kill every last one of them, That will not be one of humanity's better hours

I fear that day is getting close, though if I'm being totally honest, if the superpowers got together and decimated known terrorists, I wouldn't lose much sleep over it.

WDW theme parks are among the safest places a family can get away too. The bag checks are just the front line of protection. There are 100's of plain clothes security working all over the park all day, every day. CM's are trained to look for suspicious activity; including someone dropping off a bag and leaving it unattended. There are several special phone numbers to call from any phone, or cell phone, anywhere in the park to reach security if anyone feels their safety is being compromised. And if there ever was anything to happen there are plans in place on how to keep each and every guest safe, calm, and exit them as quickly as need be. This can including hiding out INSIDE some of the ride areas, or taken down into the Utilidors. While something bad could happen at WDW it is very unlikely and there are plans in place for prevention as well as plans on what to do if tragedy struck. Being afraid to come to WDW is letting the terrorists win.

No one is saying be afraid to come to WDW. But I am saying...the way the parks are set up the terrorist can do horrible, horrible damage with hundreds if not thousands of casualties.
While there are security measures, the gate attendants do not throughly check bags and you can walk in with an iPad or video camera in the "no bag" line without it being checked, swabbed or having to go through metal detector.
You aren't even searched in the no bag line. So what if a terrorist was wearing an explosive vest like the terrorists that recently hit Paris?

So terrorist walk in.....5 wearing explosive vests....they stand around the most populated parts of the fireworks show for viewing. No one is paying attention after all we are all one big happy family at Disney. All is well.
Then when the lights are out and everyone is paying attention to the fireworks 5 massive explosions erupt around the park.
Hundreds are injured or killed.
Then there is panic.
People run up main street.....the only way out......
What happens if two more terrorist are standing at the top of main street where everyone is canalized rushing toward the exit.
Two more vests and two more explosions and now you have even more damage and death. Now where to you go? Staying in is not safe...going out is not safe.

My point, the point that I am hoping everyone....or someone at Disney may notice if they are trolling the boards....is what plan do they have in place to prevent something like this from happening?

Again..there are no metal detectors. There are no search points. Anybody can walk into the park with an explosive vest.
These terrorists are animals and they don't care who they kill. All they want to do is kill.
So what does Disney have in place to ensure we are protected or to help prevent such an attack.

Fortunately at the Paris soccer stadium one of the bombers wearing an explosive vest was stopped and frisked before going in. He was not allowed to proceed and had to detonate the bomb at the gate. That seriously reduced the number of casualties fortunately. Just Imagine what would have happened if he gotten in. Well...nobody searches your person when you enter WDW if you are in the no bags line. Nobody.....and somebody should. Hell they should at least wand you.

I think the point you're trying to make is fear-mongering. Terrorism can happen anywhere. Times Square, Millennium Park, The Mall, any airport, and theme park, any city anywhere in the world. You will never be entirely safe, unless you plan on giving up all your rights, and live entirely in a police-state. And then how worthwhile would living life be, if that were the requirements?

So, time to stop the scare-tactics. If you don't feel safe at Disney, then don't go visit. Problem solved.

If Disney tipped their hand as to what plans were in place then that would give a potential terrorist the upper hand.

You been assured by many people already that there is more security than you are aware of.

Do you really expect somebody to spell out all the security that is currently in place? It will never happen, just as the USA will never spell out what national security measures are currently in place.

This is still going?

You're in as much risk going to the supermarket. Bad things happen randomly - a bus with bad breaks, a Soccer Mom not paying attention while driving, a frayed toaster wire, a dried out Christmas tree, or a Russian satellite coming back to earth.

You stand a greater chance of any of those bad things happening to you then an actual terrorist attack happening.

Don't choose fear. Choose life.
