Dirty German 50 mile yesterday at PennyPack park in Philly, PA.

Numbers:
Distance - 50.55miles
Time - 09:42:51
Elevation gain - 2,264 ft
Elevation loss - 2,251 ft
Calories burned - Just under 6,000

Just some quick notes rather than a full race report:
I'm freakin' sore. Hips and quads trashed. Toes hammered.
Steep inclines where there was climbing rather than running.
Punishing hip-destroying decents with jagged rocks ripping my shoes apart.
Ankle twister turns, mud, more rocks.
A guy's face split open from smashing it into a jagged rock. Blood everywhere.
Plowing through waist high streams six times (while everyone else went up stream to rock-hop across). Shoes smell like death.
Got lost for 1/4 mile. Fell after finding my way back.
Nausea around mile 38-42, but it passed quickly.
2 deer.
1 black cat.
50 push-ups at the finish line.
Give me some more :D

Run strong folks!

The best part was that my mom was a volunteer at the finish line - her job was to escort the male 10K and female marathon winners to get their official photos/do their interviews - so she saw me finish and gave me my medal! Very cool.

My time last year - also my now old PR - was 2:34:53...this year's time was 2:18:56. :sohappy: I think I could've come in closer to 2:10 if not for the heat, but considering the conditions, I'm pretty happy with it. It's still a new PR for me. :)

Congratulations Shannon! You are getting fast! How cool that your mom was a volunteer too?!?

This weekend I ran the Portland Rock n Roll Half Marathon. It was fun, and the weather was ideal but the race was tough because I got a side stitch at Mile 4 that would not go away!! It plagued me until about Mile 11, where I was wiped out from fighting it. So, no PR for me 2:03:15

Awesome medal! Congrats! Even though not a PR, still an excellent time!

Good job to everyone who raced this weekend!!! :sohappy:

Wow, that Portland medal is a work of art. I feel like I'm the only one who didn't have a race. My running buddy/cousin did a Spartan in Austin, TX. I have no interest in that. None. :D

I watched the news today and saw the Green Bay marathon was cut short due to temps near 90, which is very hot for Wisconsin this time of year.

They started pulling runners off the course at mile 20.

My sister was there with a number of others. She decided around mile 11, to complete the half instead if the full.

Thanks for the congrats everyone! :D  Yep, love the bling...the marathon medal is the same, except the colors are different and it's a bit bigger in diameter. Hopefully I will get one next year...registration is already open with an early bird rate of $50 through May 31 for the full, and I am thisclose to signing up

Congratulations Mad Stitch and Ariel 484! Yea we should have gotten together. Maybe we can get together for a run through the metroparks
sometime.

So for those who haven't figured it out yet, I ran the Cleveland Half-Marathon as well! I finished in 1:39:08, which I wasn't really going
for a PR since I have to defend my title in 1 1/2 weeks, but I figured I would
finish between 1:40 and 1:45 so I was happy with my time. I know that a lot of people had problems with the heat today, but thankfully I wasn't one of them. I haven't ran a race where I was affected by heat, but I'm sure I have a breaking point. I want to wish the people who suffered from heat exhaustion a speedy recovery. When we were walking back to our car, we saw 5 EMS squads rushing to runners.

It surprised me how many people who had already finished and spectators would walk right in the middle of the race course when runners were still trying to finish. If your watching runners or have already ran the course, use the sidewalks/pathways that are meant for you.

OMG...your half time is, like, exactly my 10-miler PR. :hammer: You are fast! Great job.

Thanks Melanee! Apparently losing a decent amount of weight makes one faster...who knew?! :hammer:

My mom had a blast...she was so excited to see me at the finish line. This was her first time volunteering, and I don't think she had the typical volunteer experience. Her co-worker was the coordinator or something, so she got a media pass with special parking and brunch! Fancy.

Sorry you didn't PR this weekend, but wow, that is a great time! Such a pretty medal. Good job pushing through that side stitch, those are the worst.

Thanks Ariel! I guess it helps having a background of playing soccer for 16 years.

Today I ran 4 miles around my neighborhood and then jumped right into
the first day of Insanity.

Nice job Nick.

I think the 2 deer cancel out the 1 black cat.

My ToT training started today after my recovery/packing my house/recovery/moving my house plan. It has been way to long. 3 months of healing. So, lets do this.

2 miles this am in my new neighborhood. All new routes. This is going to be fun. Hopefully my knee will hold up.
Tomorrow... yoga.

Wasn't able to post my workout yesterday, but it is as follows.....5 mile run outside in the hot and humid, 1 hour of yoga, and an hour zumba class. After that I was whooped so I went home and crashed and had the hardest time waking up this morning, but the soreness feels good!

Are you doing anything special for the knee? I have a Nike knee wrap, the one with the hole in the front. It got me through the Marathon but now I think it made things worse. Knee was killing me after Sunday's 4-miler. Did 3 miles this AM without it and I'm fine.

Also booked my flight for the DL half. We're flying to Vegas first to visit my sister then I'm flying over to Orange County Saturday for the race. Then the family is going to meet me there Monday for 3 days at DL, then back to Vegas to finish the week. Going to be epic!

AND, I am committed to at least watching the first P90X DVD to see what it's all about. No promises. :D

Boy, this board had an amazing weekend of racing. Congrats to everyone, esp. on the PRs! Nick, you never cease to amaze. And Joel, glad you're all settled in to the new house.

I ran 7 miles on Sunday accompanied by my hubby on his bike, broken arm and all! Last night I did a progressive speed workout of 3.5 miles on the treadmill.

Thanks Jill. It was a tough course and my legs are trashed. I only walked today to get the muscles going. Run tomorrow. I'll send you some pics from the race.

YES! My knee felt really "fatigued" after wearing a wrap this morning. Im done with braces or gimmick stuff like that. No more. I have always hated crutches. I think it might have made the joint work more.

Dont let P90X scare you. You can do it. Just jump right in.

Officially registered for Beast of Burden 100 mile in August.

I am hoping for heat stroke-inducing temps and lake effect weather / torrential downpours to kick my a-- and break my spirits for 100 miles :D It will only make earning that buckle much more sweet.

Cheers...oh wait, it's only 7:34 am.
