Steve, if you're saying the parks are busier this week than at any time since before 1999, I'm going to just flat out tell you that you're mistaken.
I was at WDW for the weeks between Christmas and NY in both 1999 and 2000 and these crowds have nothing on those. I was there Easter week (and at Epcot on the actual day) in 2003 and it was packed as well. Hell, I was at MK for July 3-4 in 2002 and 2006 and they had closings.

they've had them annually at Christmas time too ...

Now, you may not recall them or be aware of them, but it doesn't change anything.

No. That's a fact. I don't dispute that in any way.

But people extrapolating that all's fine both at WDW, in the theme park business or in the global economy based upon crowds Easter week at WDW is where I take issue.

WDW is busy now. (SWO and UNI too) We get that. But it means nothing more than that.

~Let's see what the crowds look like in two weeks~

2nd post:

No one should be banned from a site for stating their opinions (even if it, heaven forbid, bashes WDW management).

I would hate to think a site like this would be like that.

Well.. considering the crowd trends of the last 30 years.. The parks should quiet down in 2 weeks.. We'll be away from easter, and getting to the end of 'spring break' season...

Sorry you feel that the parks aren't as full as they could be, but the truth is that MK is bursting at the seems.. Even vehicular TRAFFIC on property is a bit of a nightmare as of late.

The parks REALLY ARE that busy.. Trust me, I'm in them at LEAST twice a week.. It really is packed... I've actually commented to my wife that the crowds are 'strange'... THOUSANDS of people, not walking room on Main street or in fantasyland... and the wait times aren't that bad... I find myself wondering what the hell all the people are doing :) it really is bizzare.. but the people ARE there.. regardless of what you THINK about reducing CM's and what not.. That doesn't cause generally crowd congestion in the parks... it's like mardi gras in new orleans there right now.

as far as banning people for opinions.. I don't think that has EVER happened.. But anyone who has the 'stones' to 'call out' the site admin in the forums (*Cough* Merf *Cough*) should just go ahead a log off.. This isn't a public forum, after all. ]

I just don't get it.. Why do you want to dispute the numbers and their validity? Do you REALLY think Disney wouldn't allow more paying guests with open wallets into the parks if they could? Really.. Come on.. this is common sense.

I really don't want to get in trouble. All I was saying is that the wait times reported to me from both the days were nothing out of the ordinary for a crowded day.

All I'm saying is that if these numbers are true, why are the wait times so ordinary?

You have just stated my point exactly. I don't doubt the parks are packed. i've heard it from friends. I know it is true.

It's just the numbers I question. You just mentioned the wait times ... all I see are normal, almost anytime of the year type waits. Waiting an hour for Splash Mountain or 30 minutes for Mansion or even 70 for Pooh isn't unusual at all.

I don't see pics of Space Mountain showing a REAL 4-hour wait with the ENTIRE inside queue filled and folks looping around the side of the arcade and down the walkway into Toontown. What I see is a 70-minute posted wait. I see that year round.

So, I'm adding two and two but not getting four ... and you're telling me the same thing.

I wouldn't call out anyone unless they did likewise to me. I treat people as I am treated. But I believe our young JC skipper was concerned about him being told to take a hike if he questioned Disney management here ... that to me is censorship pure and simple and would cause me to walk away. I may not believe that WDW is the most magical it has ever been, but I would never want someone gone just because they held that viewpoint.

Public forum or not if you have people afraid to state their opinions, you have a problem. I'd hate if that were the case here because I do enjoy bantering with folks about Disney ... but there are other sites I do that on too.

Of course not. But would Disney issue these closings at lower thresholds than in the past to drum up headlines and the appearance that all is rosey after they destroyed many families in the past few weeks? Yeah. I damn well know just how cutthroat an operation Mickey runs.

And let's take a look at these closings ... it seems like in no time they go from Phase 1 to 4 to none at all. They aren't losing next to anything in terms of one-day admits who get fed up and head to SWO or UNI instead. They get the folks in another park or they wait until they 'reopen'. So, they aren't hurting themselves at all by halting admits for all of maybe an hour or two tops in mid-afternoon.

And the publicity can be priceless

Exactly!

Well...I just got some numbers from a friend in ops...

The profit numbers don't seem too good.

EDIT: I don't know how solid the numbers are though. But yea, if what he says is true...not good.

Heck, I was there Jan. 20-27 and on Jan. 24 (Saturday) the wait for Space was 60 minutes, Peter Pan was 45, Indy Speedway was 50, Buzz was 40, Mansion was 30 and Pooh was 50. Splash was only 15, but that's because it was like 55 degrees or something so only the crazy people were on it. The park was crowded, but not ridiculously crowded and certainly not like those photos. So what are all these people doing? Paying however much a pop to mill around? I don't get it.

Plus, next week is a black-out week on the 4/3 deal so maybe the crowds won't be as horrendous.

Thanks, y'all!

What are you talking about that next week is a black out week on the 4/3 deal? I've got it, and I'm going next week. Tuesday is the first day that a 4/3 stay can begin. I booked in early February and that was the rule at the time. I pray to God that next week is a lot better than Phase 4 closures.

Regardless of whatever else is said, I agree with this statement, it doesn't make sense.. The wait times are no WHERE near what they were at New Years when the parks went into phased closing.. but the crowd levels in the park are... So what gives? It would make sense if 30% of the walking paths were closed, but of course, they are not...

It's been 'heavier' for a couple of weeks now, and even though the parking at epcot was back to the read lot on both sides last week, the wait time for soarin at midday was only 70 minutes....

Did the public just forget disney has rides and attractions, and they all just walking around and dining? I will say that, even counter service dining has been CROWDED too.. But last week, when soarin was a 70 minute, Livin with the land was a walk on... really bizzare

So...

No where online as far as I know. Defintely not capacity, as they don't release their numbers.

As far as Phase closings I have no idea if they put that up.

So when I travel to Disney how will I be able to tell what phase a certain park is at? Will there be a way to tell from my resort or will I have to actually go to the park to check if it is at a certain phase? Thanks for your help.

There you go again. Just because you were there during some closures in the past, you KNOW for a fact that it was busier then than now. Ever thought you might be wrong?

Despite what you think, Disney are getting very close to and in some cases hitting attendance records this week. I can also tell you what they are. Seasonal, daily and weekly, for the MK.

Do you know something else thats really interesting. MK has hit ALL TIME ridership records on a lot of the Etickets in this last year. And juyst to repeat, that is ALL TIME, since the attraction opened.

I'm sure you will say that you were there in whatever date, and you KNOW it was busier then, but I'm reporting facts from people who know the numbers, not those who are guessing.

Do you have an iPhone or mobile data device? You can always go to http://mobile.wdwmagic.com
Your resort front desk will also be able to tell you.

yeah ... gee, doncha think that's odd?

no waits of even 90 minutes listed on that MK wait board, yet they reached a Phase 4 close?

I wonder if they've reduced the 'magic number' by 15,000-20,000 people to hit that because those numbers are barely indicative of a moderate day. You can ride any Mountain with about an hour maximum wait?

~I ain't buying what they're selling~

You need to get the full story and look at the facts before you come out with things like that. That wait board shot was taken BEFORE the phased closing. After that shot waits increase. Space was at 140, Pirates 70, Jungle Cruise 70

I would hate to think a site like this would be like that.

If you have to agree with, buy into, believe everything WDW management says or does to take part in this site that should be clearly stated when someone signs up.

I don't know you Goofy, but I respect your views and opinions and as a frontline CM I understand the wealth of knowledge you bring ... I also understand how/why it can conflict with the official company line.

~Censorship sucks~

You respect his views and opinions because he follows you around like a little puppy and goes along with a lot of your distorted views of WDW. No wonder a lot of your information about the current state of WDW is flat out wrong if you take a wealth of knowledge from a Seasonal Cast Member who isnt even working in the park.

We don't censor here on WDWMAGIC, and where has there been talk of banning?

Just want to say..Steve never bans anyone for stating their opinions whether they are right or wrong.
He would never ban anyone because they do not agree with what he says or they do not agree with what they say.

Since I have been a member here he has only banned posters that sign up just to spam or posters who have broken specific rules that say you can get banned for doing them..foul language, attacking other members..mods.

So, getting banned here is not an easy thing to do...even merf did not get banned until he took it to far..when in my opinion he should have been banned way earlier...:lookaroun

My take on this thread and I know no one really cares....is that Steve has been posting these threads updating us on closings, celebrity guests, restaurant changes..etc for as long as I have been here and he does it to keep us up to date on what is going on.

Now some of us appreciate it and like hearing the news and some of us could care less..if you do not care then why post in it at all or even open the thread?

If I am not interested in a thread or I do not like the many threads about one thing then I do not post in them..simple as that.

The End...:)
